For sure. To think she's a spell or two away from Magic 3... She could be nagging us to learn Shadowsteed next year.

According to WoB, she's just one spell away:
She's just Sounds away from getting it.

I don't know how many Lesser magics learned it takes to boost one's magic, but there's decent odds we could be sending Eike on her Journey with Magic 4, which is insane. That might require heavily prioritizing her learning spells over training other more mundane yet practical things, so it ultimately might not be advisable. Either way, Eike's still crazy talented.

And it sucks that the Cult of Verena as whole doesn't like us now :/.
I don't think it's the Cult as a whole, just the local Verenans, which will still color our interactions with other parts of the Cult since they will have heard their side of the story before ours. And Ultimately I don't think it's that big of a deal, we don't need the cooperation of the Verenans in Wissenland anymore now that we secured a bunch of copying rights without them and the other parts of the Cult will still be massively tempted by the prospect of an enormous and incredibly safe library in the form of KAU.

We could perhaps do even better if we're lucky and focused the right way. A familiar could possibly give her one more Magic, or if she inherits Mathilde's Windsage trait. Maybe both for maximum memes. And that's without the utter decadence of making her a staff for her journeying or something.
Whilst Kragg-sempai scowls, Not At All Jealous, Baka?
Kragg wishes Mathilde was a Runesmith. Then he might actually have a hope for a worthy apprentice. :V

On Eike's musings, would it be a good idea to put her on the action for the Morbs?
Mostly because I'm interested in what her windsight picks up out of it, since the differences in our windsights would be able to be compared over a long period of time in a scenario involving precise quantities of multiple Winds.

For the record, the idea as I understood it is an application of the existing apparition-spell framework, only with Orcish aesthetics on an originally humanoid Apparition.
At first I dismissed it as thread madness, but after thinking about it more, it might actually be more useful than it sounds because:
-Greenskins are a highly deniable bruiser, they show up everywhere, are distracting, and are highly willing to fight anything without further justification than it being there. A concealed Grey Wizard could summon a very realistic Shadow Goblin(figure goblins would be easier due to better Ulgu affinity), have it smash up something and then flee, and it'd be business as usual.

-If it somehow manages to fake Waaagh(unlikely, but not actually impossible for Mathilde I think, since Ulgu likes pretending to be things?) well enough it could be used to redirect smaller groups of greenskins towards other targets, depending on how long it lasts, even if it can't talk.

-As a humanoid conjuration that is actually expected to be armed it could use its own conjured weapons, or grab whatever - Greenskins make it work after all, the magic probably wouldn't bat an eye.
It'd be one hell of a bit of overkill to make an entire road out of marble.

Then again, they're Elves...
Marble would probably not be for bridges or roads in swampy areas, what with being rather prone to corrosion.

I wouldn't necessarily mind, but given the high intensity nature of the experiment she might not have a developed enough Windsight to pick anything of wroth up? From what I recall it's hard enough for Mathilde, and her Windsight is crazily good.

I'm surprised there isn't more interest for looking into the Ulrican business in either Middenland/Nordland, considering how crucial that relationship is for the current Eonir alliance.

Some backlog questions I had if you don't mind shedding light on them @Boney, sorry for bombarding them all at once:
  1. Are Verenans from the Empire barred from the Great Library of Verena in Marienburg? If yes, how do they feel about that.
  2. Do we know anything about how extensive/prestigious Verena's library in Nuln is, or the amount of "book loot" we could've acquired from them?
  3. What's stopping us from importing Eastern books by putting a higher price? So that their price-per-poundage is comparable to exotic trade goods like spices. (Is this a dumb question, is it too expensive to do so in bulk?)
4. Are people getting worried about Roswita's seeming lack of plans for her succession (enough to affect local politics)?
5. Speaking of which, are Roswita's siblings still being kept hidden away, rather than being brought to Stirland now that she's better established?
6. Did Mathilde give a report to Roswita that the Alberich business was handled afterwards?
7. Is the mother of Boris' two known illegitimate children the same person? Couldn't find it in canon details.

8. Would it be a viable action for Mathilde to write a book on her insights into Dwarven diplomacy/culture? Since the Imperial school of thought overlooks many nuances of Dwarven society based on her meeting with the Imperial Chamberlain.
9. As a Grey Wizard, did Mathilde not qualify for the position of Belegar's diplomat back when the K8P council was being setup? (As it wasn't an available choice)
10. How does one become a Magister Vigilant, is that a dedicated role where it's your main responsibility like the Waystone Project?
11. Is Mathilde considered an unofficial Magister Vigilant?
12. How many papers does the standard Magister or LM churn out in a year, or to be more specific: how high/low is Mathilde's rate of publishing compared to the average?
13. Was Tochter active in Wurtbad/Stirland during Mathilde's Spymaster years? Do we know how old she is?
14. Did Solmann end up getting inspiration for his Azyr elemental magic from Ljiljana during the Karag Dum expedition?
15. Is there a canon date/year for the first Karag Dum Expedition OTL, the one that led to Gotrek becoming a Slayer?

16. What happens to vampires eaten by Strigoi, presumably the parts inside of the Strigoi are prevented from ressurrecting?
17. Is Gnoldron, a lost ancient Runesmith hammer from Stone & Steel, canon to the quest? If so, was it recovered with the return of Karak Vlag?
18. Would Koros-dar Nael, an Elven Liche from WHFRP 2ED, be canon to the quest?

Also had some potentially repeated questions but my search-fu is a bit rusty, not sure if they were answered before:
  • I think you said you were willing to run the quest if the thread somehow voted to go off the deep end (like becoming Nagash 2.0), but is a involuntary change (like being forcibly turned into a Vampire) a quest-ending proposition?
  • With the Dwarf Favor system becoming obsolete, what would it require for Mathilde to inspect the Phoenix Crown now?
  • Just to confirm, Was Alric able to have that much influence over Egrimm because he was both his Patriarch and former Master?
  • When first meeting Alkharad, did he not recognize the Ulgu Shadowsteed? Since he listed off guesses like a Myrmidian priestess or Witch Hunter, who shouldn't know that spell. (Vaguely remember this might be a repeated question)
  • This is probably an oversight on my part, since it would've been done if possible: can Johann remove his tainted chamon eyesockets then regenerate it with Ghyran?

I expect that she is actually going to be regularly useful for the actions we include her in soon.

Boney has said before that because her windsight is intuitive, she's always going to have some difficulties communicating her understandings of the Winds to others. I imagine that's before you consider that she's relatively inexperienced. I have this mental image of the AV exploding and her getting stunned in the same way Mathilde gets blinded. Like getting eight different and really strong impressions of something at the same time.

But I'm all for putting her on the book-writing actions. She can help us proofread or talk it through - she can be our example of how to explain it to someone who knows nothing at all regarding it.

Putting her on the windfall paper to see whetehr she can prove herself to Egrimm, and then putting her on windherder action seems like a good plan.

I also want to investigate the liminal realm creation again, since we have the ability to leg it and don't need the calamity room for it.

Hmm, maybe that should be something to work on, helping Eike not just develop her Windsight, but also deciphering and communicating it for others. How many times has Mathilde struggled to put her understanding of magic into words, even with her incredibly enhanced and relatively communicable visual Windsight? Teaching her how to translate her understandings of the Winds early on seems pertinent.

Might be a good way to refine her Windsight maybe? Even if she spends most of it dazzled
It's possible that intuitive Windsight can't get dazzled like visual Windsight can. Visual Windsight is arguably the most straightforward of Windsight but it isn't necessarily the best, different forms of Windsight have different advantages and disadvantages, it's possible that while intuitive Windsight is harder to communicate to others it doesn't have to deal with the limitations of visual Windsight like being blinded by magic because there is no metaphysical vision to blind.

It seems that before that we can put her on the Pall of Darkness action, cause if we can see through it and can incorporate it into our melee style, Eike might try to improve her windsight to copy us. Or maybe Pall of Darkness just straight up does not stop her, so she can start considering incorporating it too once she learns how to cast it.

That is a lot of questions to put on a typically very obliging QM. Any chance you could pare it down to ones that have actionable, quest relevance, rather than asking for world-building or background-detailing just to satisfy curiosity? Being as that's a whole bunch of extra unpaid work.

Sure, here's an edited list of questions that should have quest relevance to look over instead @Boney:
  1. Do we know anything about how extensive/prestigious Verena's library in Nuln is, or the amount of "book loot" we could've acquired from them?
  2. What's stopping us from importing Eastern books by putting a higher price? So that their price-per-poundage is comparable to exotic trade goods like spices. (Is this a dumb question, is it too expensive to do so in bulk?)

  5. With the Dwarf Favor system becoming obsolete, what would it require for Mathilde to inspect the Phoenix Crown now?

These are admittedly world-building questions, but it's really interesting and couldn't help ask:
  1. Was Tochter active in Wurtbad/Stirland during Mathilde's Spymaster years? Do we know how old she is?
  2. Are people getting worried about Roswita's seeming lack of plans for her succession (enough to affect local politics)?
  3. What happens to vampires eaten by Strigoi, presumably the parts inside of the Strigoi are prevented from resurrecting?

Yes/No questions:
  • Are Roswita's siblings still being kept hidden away?
  • Did Mathilde give a report to Roswita that the Alberich business was handled afterwards?
  • Would Koros-dar Nael, an Elven Liche from WHFRP 2ED, be canon to the quest? Since Elder races are almost never Undead.
  • Just to confirm, Was Alric able to have that much influence over Egrimm because he was both his Patriarch and former Master?
  • This is probably an oversight on my part (it would've been done if possible): can Johann remove his tainted chamon eyesockets then regenerate it with Ghyran?

This has been asked, and is IIRC a strong no. As you say, Mathilde and Johann aren't dumb. The damage is too extensive. Though I think I recall reading a complete head-gilding may still make it as if the damage never happened.

Do we know how old she is?
Did you check her Social action?
You nod in understanding, and leave her to her examinations to go over your impressions of the Jade Magister. Considering they're of the same Order and a similar age, it's difficult to completely avoid comparing Tochter to Panoramia.
Similar age to Panoramia.

It would be theoretically possible to hire somebody to buy books, but the results probably would not be worth it. Keep in mind that each mechanical bonus for a book topic in our library is an abstraction for entire shelves of books, so that's a lot of spices to be displacing.

Buying entire shelves of books on very specific topics through intermediaries that probably don't speak much of the language in question and probably don't understand the topic you want is practically guaranteed to get subpar results, and you'll be paying for the hundreds of kilos of silks and spices you'd be displacing for your literary ambitions every time you roll those dice.

Too lazy to grab the entire discussion, but if you check the pages immediately prior to that quote there's more on the topic.

@Boney, was one of the minor colleges the Academy of Wizardry or have they been replaced by the Elementalists? I'm wondering what books they have and what they're about.

My guess for the Canal taking longer is that it's the same as in the Real World for similar great civil engineering projects :

It's a nice job for the workers so they're dragging their feets in order for the project (and their jobs) to last longer.

Which major canal was a "nice job for the workers?" Because I can only think of the Suez and Panama canals offhand, and I wouldn't describe either of those as a "nice job."

Granted, the Dawi probably aren't having to deal with malaria currently.

I just thought of a way to combine or enchanting, wind-herder, Waaagh bane and waystone research into an amazing enchantment.

What if we enchanted tributaries that were super conductive to Waaagh energy? Make it so whenever a Waaagh so much as approaches a Kragg (or other waystone) they just lost all motivation as the Waaagh drained away?

We can even test the theory really easily if black Kragg is still sending their regular attacks.

A familiar would give her an extra point of magic, that is the guaranteed gift. That said given the dangers of familiar obsession I am not sure I want to expose her to it right out of her apprenticeship.

I think that was the anatomy book on them that Mathilde and Johann looted.
Might be poking at abstraction here - but I'd like to confirm my understanding:

We received +1 bonus from the Skaven book on Chaos Dwarf anatomy... which has the same textual content as the Imperial translation of the book in our library?
