Ah, well, we should grab that on the way out then if we've done anything else obvious. And do so before breaking out any prisoners.

Commonplace. Everybody knows how to read and write runes.

Interesting worldbuilding note. That was probably not true historically, but then neither was everyone having superhuman mental stats, so...

Fair enough. Without big brain, runes are useless. Good thing Halla's got us. Wonder if we should teach our children Wordplay, now, so that our other children besides the one that we'll take control of can use runes.

We should teach all our kids level 2 in practically every skill (we personally lack Sailing, Shoot, and Design, but Abjorn has Design and we might want to fix those gaps anyway). That's surprisingly affordable and will serve them well in life.

Also, I wonder if we could learn to jumble up our rune phrases like Horra does with the Draugr.
I think we can now, but since we would hand Imperial the solution to any rune-riddle we propose, the best way to get the "cool runes" bonus is just to lean into the language of the rune phrase. We could try doing stuff like hiding the runes in the sails of a ship or the fur of a beast, but it would mostly be for flavor. You're right that it might be worth doing for something like the proposed central runestone that guards our family lands, as it would make the defenses harder to circumvent.

By the by, is there anything stopping us from firebombing this place? Or Horra's house, come to think of it?

It actually kind of was. You'd have people scribbling down their day-to-day thoughts on pieces of birch like we would with sticky notes. Like, if a Norseman was bored they'd go and graffiti some random piece of stone or a stick somewhere. There are a lot of runesticks that just have weird stuff written on them, like the one that tells the reader to fart after standing back up.

This was a way of permanently leaving your mark on the world, a way to achieve a state of orthstirr.

(not everyone knew them, but anyone of good standing would.)

Anyways, I'm gonna call the vote once I finish eating this pot of soup.

It might activate any currently dormant defenses, and it would more thoroughly prove that someone from Steinarr's family found the place, rather than merely 'someone unknown'.
Depending on what we find, it might be worth spreading around some destruction anyway.

[X] Cages

Because the difference between "not a big deal" and "blatant evidence of atrocities" is really straightforward among the cages.

I don't see how the Workshop is 'not a big deal'? Like, the cages is a good option, don't get me wrong, but the Workshop could have actual schematics of his weapons, ranging from the Scorpions to even his sunlight weaponry, and I wouldn't describe those as 'not a big deal'.

I've got 9d..so it's time to play 9 questions! Or 3 hints as the case may be, really.

Alright, first go:

1) When we started putting more life in our soulscape, Halla felt it was right, and also got the sense that she was nearing something (details obscured by the enemy), even if she was missing something. Could I have a warning as to the specific trap or landmine that we might get hit by on reaching that concealed something?

What was the initial problem you faced with farming?

It's either clearing the fields or building a house. Those were the first things we did...technically we did the house first, but that had to do with it being almost Winter. But given the specificity of the question (what was the initial problem we faced, not what problem do all farmers face), it's probably that.

Hmm. Could also be having enough fodder for animals. We did acquire livestocks right at the start as iirc dowry from Steinarr..

Given this is a warning, I wonder if building something in our soulscape might lock us into something. We probably want a pretty impressive structure in case we can't upgrade it later. And to lay a good Foundation (Foundation establishment being a common xianxia step).

On a side-related note, I wonder if having someone pre-dig a Well in their soul might make initiation easier compared to having the odr blast a crater in their soul.

Horra's Sanctum 3
The Cages
As you step into the cage-filled room, you're forced to take a step back from the veritable wall of stench assailing your senses. Eyes watering, you force your way through to find...

'Well, that is a lot of draugar.'

"Yeah... yeah it is."

Your words feel like a massive understatement as you stand before a room filled wall-to-wall with empty-eyed draugar. There's gotta be at least fifty or sixty draugar, all scattered around a set of cages.

'I count fifty-three.'

You have to punch your chest to start your heart back up.

"fifty-fucking-three...." All of them as strong as the one you fought... "Where did he get all these bodies?!"

'Ancient burial grounds, perhaps?'

"Maybe," your eyes land on one of the draugar. It's rather large, with red hair and what was once a big, powerful belly. It looks almost familiar, somehow.

Regardless, all these draugar had to come from somewhere.

Someone's grave had to be robbed to fill this room.

That's theft right there. Theft of the worst kind.

Would you like to explore another part of the Sanctum or return home?

AN: Not much to say here.

No moratorium. I find myself doubting the possibility of a fourth update, but it isn't an impossibility.
