Honestly? I've been thinking about it for a while, and I think that initiating someone into Seidr as a discipline requires the initiator to pay a price in their "Magic Stat", possibly transfering their highest level dot over to the student, which genuinely lessens them--and it's increasingly valuable the more potent your teacher is.

And Seidkona are more in tune with debts and prices than anyone else, so they won't do it without a commeasurate payment in turn, lest that create an opening to fuck them up with (Like what happened with the Witch). "I want Horra's head on my desk" is a fairly hefty price, which implies the Seeress very much knows her shit. Someone who was less capable wouldn't have demanded such a relatively epic quest out of us. (Machinating the death of a 40+ year old sorcerer with a significant Home Field Advantage is a pretty big ask after all)

Hm. I wonder what's up with that. We were told that Halla at her full potential would be able to 1v1 a Steelfather, but Hallr himself said that had he been prepared, he could've taken down nine Steelfather's easily. So either we can't reach the same realm as Hallr, or it's simply a matter of talent and we're not as talented as Hallr is. Or maybe it's because of Ilmarinen's Fire? I've got no clue why that is, tbh.

'That's... a good idea. One I wish I'd thought of in life. I never really got the hang of proper flying as I suffered from motion sickness, so being able to stand on the air would've been very useful.'
So... i am happy for the agreement, but the question still isn't answered if it possible to use one trick to channel multiple hugreida effects, without creating the same/similar trick for each hugreida...
as for the air stepping, would this work on, idk, boots?
Also, i know its late, what with the gift already given to Stigr, but here is what i had in mind for his gifft.... perhaps we can give it when he wanders off?
"Let the wearer ride the wolf of the land as he travels the path of the giants" = airstep in a steep upward or downward incline
(wolf of the land = wind, path of the giants = mountains)
And would there be complications? Because with sime adjustments it could be "stepping on air as solidly as on mountains".
Bits and pieces is, like, a couple of tricks passed down through the generations. Someone like the Seeress is going to have a vast library of different tricks and techniques she can call upon, which is what she'd be teaching you.

She's also teaching you the why of it, which isn't something the knowledge of past mothers would be able to pass on.
Ah, tradition. That and folk remedies.
Definitelly better to know the whys and hows when working with UNLIMITED POWER!!!!!
Not for Norsemen. Norsemen bodies are inherently imperfect, they wrinkle at a normal human rate. It's just that they have such a strong grip on life that it doesn't really matter.
Yeah, being able to ignore or remake your body will fixpesky little issues like joint pains, unrully veins or cracked sleepy nerves.

Probably Ilmarnien's Fire. The real problem with Steelfathers is that they're virtually invincible, but Ilmarinen's Fire is platonic Fire by all indications. Even if Hallr couldn't actually True Kill them, he could probably melt their Bodies to slag if he had enough time to build up a large enough manifestation of his Hugareida. Steel might be Eternal, but it can be shaped and molded, in theory. So it shouldn't be absolutely proof against the Very Idea of Fire at its peak. Might not be enough to break Steel, but it can absolutely melt it into a state where it can't do much.

Halla being able to 1v1 a Steelfather without that is Nuts, considering that they can afford to Always Spend Every Dice on Offense because most incoming attacks just can't hurt them.

Also, we need to go deal with that witch. I'd honestly want to do it next turn. They might have been involved with our house falling in and I wouldn't be surprised if they've messed with us in other ways.

Her Debt was absolutely cashed in to set that up apparently, as it was gone in the aftermath, the question is if she knows it was cashed in on her behalf or if she passed it off--and if she did that, then to who.

more factors, i would guess.
Hallr was a badass, he had the ancestral homefield, he probably also had a teacher from the bits he told to us, the skyforg as you mentioned, and he had reliable underlings as well as a network to aquire stuff and a seat of power.

Yeah we should definitely be wary of her. She has shown that she's not above taking advantage of us if she gets something she wants, so I'm inclined to believe it's her, but at the same time I don't see why she'd do it? Unless she was offered something in exchange for cashing in the debt.

I doubt Halla's underlings would've been able to trivialise a fight against 9 Steelfather's. But yeah it was probably Ilmarinen's Fire. Can't actually recall if he was just vibing and was temporarily set up for the night or something, or they attacked him in his base though.

Well, Ironjaw is considered a Steelfather, which leads me to believe he can 1v1 one of them. So either Halla is just not an impressive cultivator, or Ironjaw is one too. Or Ironjaw is just a fucking anomaly of some kind.

I'd rather we get seidr first. Wouldn't want to attack a Witch in her own lair - I imagine she could weaponize it against us very easily.

That's a Visit, and next turn's (and season's) Visit is to the Thing to deal with Horra (legally speaking). I'd also like some more defenses against magic before going up against the Witch if possible (I'd like those against Horra as well...hence the anti-magic arm ring thing). We want to go have a talk, no doubt, but with the debt gone she has no hold on us so we can wait until we take care of Horra and learn a bit of defensive seidr first.

Hey Blackhand, are there tricks to use Orthstirr to temporarily strengthen the effect rune spells have? Like the runes in my weapon?

Thats mostly on us, because few people wanted to interact with the witch after the reveal, even though we knew not paying back debts is a bad idea.
Its just, we didn't knew it was THIS bad to leave debts go unpaid....

Oh, yes. that will be an interesting conversation....
Will the Normir jump in to fix fate if we break the filter? WAS the filter even used? Will she try to attack us at first sight? Or will WE rush them down for no reason just because not paying our debts came to bite our ass?

It's actually not a bad idea as a general rule. We were explicitly told, by the QM, that the standard cultural expectation would be that she would come to us when she wanted something. Us seeking her out would be the weird thing.

In this particular case, she decided to use it to screw us over (or more likely sold it on to Horra or his people), but it's not a generally bad idea or anything to wait until people ask for something to pay a debt. Doing it preemptively is generally acceptable if you have something in mind for them, but it's not obligatory.

Yeah, basically, her apparently Screwing Us Over was very much dirty pool, considering it was on her to call in the debt. I'm pretty sure there's no culture in the world that smiles on people who take advantage of you owing them one to backstab them rather than use it to, you know, get a favor.

So either someone else piggybacked off of the floating debt against her knowledge (Which is going to piss her off enough to work with us on principle), or she handed it off to someone else, who then used it to try and hurt us. Which is weird because as far as I know we've never done anything to really get on her bad side.

Still no reason why not to visit her and iirc "the debtor will come asking when they need your favor" stuff was later, when the livestocks were disused. My memory is spotty though.

Also, keep in mind, we do not know who she sold the debt so saying it was Horra can cause assuptions that will, again, come back to bite us later.

Horra had nothing to do with that attack, the Enemy just took advantage of the incoming attack to try and make the damage that much worse. It was the Troll-Men who actually attacked us, and IF later said that the Troll-Men are not the Enemy's creatures.

The debt was gone by the end of the day though, so it was either cashed in by the Foemen or the Troll-Men, and neither should be the sort that the Witch would have paid out to willingly. Not for a debt that was still collecting a fair amount of interest and was nowhere near maturity. Which suggests the Debt was actually stolen from her.

Or alternately, she died, and the Enemy gets first dibs on any unpaid debts that have no creditor anymore. That's informative in itself though.

Yeah, she did also explicitly say that she'd be the one to come to us whenever she could think of something

If I remember the correctly, the reason we didn't visit her was because (at the time) we were leery of what she'd do if we were to be left alone with her in her house again. Which I feel is valid, for the most part. The fact that she was expected to come to us whenever she wanted her debt payed justifies it in the end, but yeah.

Might be wrong, though.

Horra's Sanctum 4
The Workshop
Leather-strapped tables greet your curious gaze as you enter the workshop. Clay pots sit on shelves lining the walls, adorned with runic tags denoting them as things like 'worm-tendons' and 'eagle-tongues'.

Dominating the room, however, is a rather familiar sight suspended from ceiling straps.

Two tusks, a long face-arm-hand, and big ears. Yep, that's an elephant all right.

An elephant draugr, that is.

'That's... I really hate how it lacks skin.' You can't help but agree.

Suppressing a full-body shudder, you turn your attention to the finer details of the room. Lots of tools lay scattered about the place, next to bodies strapped to tables. Most seem to be ancient skeletons, but you wouldn't put it past Horra to have murdered people for this.

Come to think of it... raids tend to generate thralls and the region has seen some good raids recently, so where have all the thralls gone?

'I think that we've found the answer to that particular question.'

"Yeah, yeah we have."

This place reeks of death, you can't wait to be rid of it.

As you turn to move on to the third and final room, you perk up as your fylgja sees movement. Moving through the trees, at an unhurried pace, is Horra, Hasvir, and a rather exhausted Harald Wolfwind. Wolfwind doesn't want to be here, that much is obvious, but here he is anyways — why?

He had you dead to rights, but he let you go.

Regardless, you're on a time-limit. It doesn't seem like they know you're here, but that doesn't mean you can dawdle.

hence why i cautioned connecting it to horra.

And yeah, I doubt the which was in her right mind and at peace when she sold/cashed in the favor for that ambus, but we will see when we talk with her.
We should also bring a gift, just to make a point about being polite.

[X] Leave now

GET OUT, NOW.

Wolfwind's senses are not to be underestimated, and if he's being brought here, then he's Part of the Inner Circle--if grudgingly. And if a beast on his level is apparently someone Horra's got by the balls, we don't want to see what happens when he gets a Direct Order.

Or if Horra smells a rat somehow.

The exact quotes:

Or am I overly cautious with that?
The onus of favors is on the favor-holder to call it in

Wait, are we supposed to go to the Witch, or will she come to us when she wants the favour?
She'll come to you. She is the favor-holder.

That is explicit. By norse culture we were acting ok.

We have a lot of Reward dice floating around, people could stack the Hamingja roll. I don't think hiding and listening is a good idea.

No evidence of the sun weapons, that's disappointing.
