Y'know what, I just adjusted the plan to try and raise Artcraft and Wordplay in exchange for a bit slower Ignition. 6 dice is plenty to get to Rough (especially with +1 success) and getting to Refined on this turn is always just gonna be a matter of getting lucky (unless we put, like, 12 dice in one...but even I think that's excessive).

Is there a good reason why we're suddenly dumping the majority of our dice into Ignition?

I did just cut back on that, but the big reason is because they double when we do it. Dice put towards Ignition are just better than ones put towards anything else, as long as the Ignition trick is something we actually want, and mobility and ranged attacks both very much are.

How would a mobility trick even work in this? What would it do mechanically? Should also mention that sustained flight probably won't be possible with Ignition; or rather it wouldn't be efficient. According to Imperial, Ignition specialises in explosions are short bursts of intense heat, rather than sustained fire. A jump-pack/boost/thing should be possible though.

Eh, I'm not convinced about that. In terms of our basics (as in Pierce, Bash, Chop, etc.) we're behind the curve when compared to 20 year old - which is the average age for raid trials - and while we can still probably pass, I don't see why we're neglecting them.

At this rate, we'll just keep accumulating hugareida or some other thing that will take our attention and forget about our basics.

Why did Gabrial have such a weird reaction? And why did Jeremus get between us? And why did Hallr hiss?

I was thinking something like Steinarr's meteor jumps, yes.

We're behind to the tune of a single point in Chop, and ahead by a point each in Defend and Dodge (and Glima, if we get it to 3). I'd say we're on par just more well rounded rather than focused. We do need to start raising Chop, but I don't think it's urgent as of yet.

My own inclination is to start religiously putting 1d6 into it every turn in the near future, which should be doable once we have a few less things at 0-1 that we really need to get to level 2.

Why did Gabrial have such a weird reaction? And why did Jeremus get between us? And why did Hallr hiss?

I think because it's strategically valuable information about how their cultivation works, but also he may wish to impress a pretty girl. We actually learned that their power pool is called Fervor for instance. And Blackhand is a pagan spirit...I suspect Jerasmus is probably the person we've met best able to actually harm him via exorcism, and he was making his defensive position clear.

[X] Plan And Finally The Meteor

Yeah, Rocket Jumping should easily be in our wheelhouse. That being said, I've got an alternate suggestion for our offensive Trick @DeadmanwalkingXI , namely, could we switch it instead to just be detonating explosive charges on our attacks? A ranged attack isn't really playing to our strengths right now, and since we're already training a Mobility Trick, this'd be a better way to do it. "Strike a target and then fire ignites" is probably a hands-free way of using it, if only because "Steel on Flint" is one of the earliest ways of igniting a fire in the first place. It'd be weird if this still required a free hand to trigger in light of that.

Wildfire's probably better for the more general fire projection tricks anyway.

Please, let's go with an offensive trick. Our flying artillery has been loitering with nothing to do for too long.

I mean, just suggesting "Use our Fylgja as flying artillery" got a lot of pushback in the past. And giving it a proper defense would mean losing it for ourselves. Unless we can learn a Trick twice and have one for our Owl and one for ourselves at least.

That's certainly an option going forward (and getting new Ignition Tricks is not hard)...but I think having a ranged option is worthwhile, and as KreenWarrior notes, we can potentially pass it off to our fylgja once we get a defensive trick for them, which is not a bad idea at all long term.

It being hands free also means we can use it in melee, and having us suddenly breathe fire or shoot eye lasers at the people we're fighting seems pretty useful.

I don't think we can learn the same trick twice, but we've already learned 3 different defensive Standstill tricks (though I'm not personally a fan of giving the fylgja any of those three), so picking up another doesn't seem impossible.

Owl with the ERA doing zoom-n-booms

Wait a sec, ERA is on the table for us?

Okay, that would go a long way towards making it very scary. Though straight up fire projection is probably better done with Wildfire or something similar, right?

It's more that Fire Breath and Eye Beams aren't really what come to mind when I think "Explosions", which is what Imperial Fister said Ignition mostly revolves around, and I'm not keen on wasting our precious time and resources on a potential dead end or a poor use of our Hugareida.

It's not Wildfire, which is all about burning things on a wide scale. It's about short duration high intensity explosions.

I mean, projecting explosions seems at least as effective as projecting fire for artillery. Also I think part of the pushback for owl-tillery is that it hasn't had a better means of attack than "maybe drop rocks?" yet.

Looking at people and making them explode (or just be on fire) also works for me. Like, the thing we're actually asking for on that trick are that it's a hands free attack, the others are just examples. Exact details guided by Blackhand and our QM seem fine.

Hrm, since this would be resolved in universe pretty easily just by bouncing it off of Blackhand. @Imperial Fister , is Ignition any good at these kinds of ranged fire projection tricks? Or would we have to find some other medium to get what people want out of it?

Because there's no way I can see an "Explosive Stare" as being cheap or particularly effective.

HISSS!!!!!
"Hallr!" You roar at the voice in your head.

'What?!' The voice in your head roars back.

"Teach me fire!"

'Fine!'
Heh. Could have been a training talk, but still fun.
Runes wrap around the surface of the stick, carved and colored red. According to Blackhand, it's a meat-keeping stick. Which is a stick you stab into meat to keep it fresh for extended lengths of time.
...does this work on living flesh/meat too? To keep off infections and such.

Is there a good reason why we're suddenly dumping the majority of our dice into Ignition?
Its shiny new thing. i don't like the fire eyes either, don't worry.

Now then, As Deadman is the first to put out plans usually, i will, again, take a crack at it with his as a template...

[X] Plan And Finally The Meteor

yeah, cant really think of a better one, except the drifa part, but not because of her, just the reasoning behind it.
I'm not actually super confident on what to do, but Drifa is our one remaining family member with a negative opinion of us.
she doesnt have a negative opinion though?
Drifa Stensdottir: (4/10):

For possible replacement, how about a pure skill spar with Gabriel?
-[] (Personal) Gabriel, he's always down for a spar.
--[] He did said he was constrained to less obvious prayers, make it a pure skill and body enchantment spar. No trick or hugreida or prayer other than those, if he can use those, ofc.

Also, perhaps asking recommendations from Steinar? just so, we have alternatives for later, as well as to use stuff in friendly competitions.
--[] Ask about what tricks he would recommend for: defense, dodging, movement (mention the after images we seen by both the slagson and the draugr), and throwing. Preferably cheap ones.

For the mobility trick, i doubt we could do what Steinar did.... at least, in one go. with a lot of explosions though? easy. Booster assisted jumps and attacks incoming, perhaps?

As for Hallr, perhaps ask him if he knows anything about the far east?
Unless there are other questions?

Edit: forgot the poem.

I can easily see 'explosive yell/scream' being a viable option, and that would work fine.

Sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean a literal negative number, but numbers under 5, historically, mean they don't actually like us much (a negative opinion in the colloquial sense), while 5 is neutral and 6+ is positive. Drifa is our one relative with an opinion of us under 5, and thus doesn't like us much.

I'd rather not spar in a turn where we're likely to have combat, which this upcoming turn is. We won't learn much without spending orthstirr.

Sure, added. Questions are free, after all.

It won't be as powerful, but explosion powered jumps seem within Ignition's wheelhouse.

As for Hallr, perhaps ask him if he knows anything about the far east?
Uness there are other questions?

I'm not sure how useful that would be, but I can maybe throw something in.

I'm very hesitant to give you guys a 'stare at people and they explode' ability, at least this early on. So I'm gonna say that stuff like that isn't on the table, at least right now.

Ignition can create quick jets/bursts of fire and explosions. Long-range stuff isn't its forte but melee-range stuff is.

The bossfight won't happen next turn. I'm preparing a special thing for it

I didn't think of that, but sure... though walking around with a wooden stick in you can't be very comfortable. Think of it as the size of a No 2 pencil or something along those lines

More or less, yes. Don't expect it to be especially cheap, but you could, theoretically, do it.
