Can I interest anyone in voting for Plan Halting Vortex? I'm willing to adjust some non-Halting Vortex dice if it'll get people on board.
Got my vote. No need to change anything, though i'd really like to make smithing a habit. (Not a requirement, first project: good quality crafting tools (as the tools do boost smithing))
Would be cool if we could get started with that next turn.

@TheCount I could definitely move a couple of dice into the tricks you suggest, for example.
First, I understand that you have a stressful day, but bro, not cool soliciting votes. Asking in general is fine, but don't ping people over it.

Second, I already said my problem with HV plan, unless you have come around to reducing HV to 6 dice, I'm not changing my votes.

Sorry, in this specific case it's because if I made the change my plan would only be two dice different than yours, which seemed really relevant? But you're probably right, sorry again.

Second, I already said my problem with HV plan, unless you have come around to reducing HV to 6 dice, I'm not changing my votes.

Fair enough.

[X] Plan Halting Vortex

Don't have a strong preference this turn, mainly voting for this one because it's the only plan that assigns othisnirr to any of our dice pool, which we kind of need to do in order to roll more then a single die for anything we do in a turn which seems important.

I hope the vote stays, but in good conscience I must note that this is no longer true, Alectai did fix this problem and all votes now have orthstirr assigned.

Well, guess we'll see if 8 dice really was excessive on Halting Vortex. I actually hope it was, since more successes are always good and we want to Master it eventually.

You're not sure what it is, but Leaping-Cleave just isn't coming to you as easily as it normally does.

You take a long drink of water before wiping the sweat from your brow. Sweat-wet hair soaks through your clothing, bringing a groaning frown to your face.

It's gotten quite long, your hair has. Before it merely reached your shoulders, now it reaches past your waist — while you've got it in your usual ponytail. It's only gotten thicker and more voluminous as you've aged, and, if your eyes aren't deceiving you, *redder* too. Still as unruly as ever, though.

You watch as Gabriel runs through another set of swordstrokes with that strange, long-handled sword of his. After that first spar he, with Steinarr's permission, has taken to practicing his swordplay alongside you.

As you eye him, though, a thought trickles in from the back of your head. Gabriel is clearly a member of some kind of warrior order, or else he'd never have obtained the level of competency he so clearly displays. When such people are defeated on the battlefield, they most often are ransomed back.

So why wasn't Gabriel? And Jerasmus, for that matter.

Well, Steinarr's right there, so you might as well ask your question.

"Hey dad, why didn't you ransom back Gabriel and Jerasmus?" You ask your father as he throws a stick for Flekkr.

"Because," Steinarr releases a heavy groan and slumps over as if deflating, "before I killed Gabriel's master I offered him a last request as is a just act for a worthy opponent once defeated. I figured he'd ask me to spare his Squire or something, which I was already planning on doing. I was right, that is what he asked me to do," Steinarr stares off into the horizon, his eyes dead and hollow from his exasperation-filled memories, "one of the things he asked me to do. The rest included things like," he starts listing off a litany of demands, amongst them things like 'make sure my Squire is cared for properly' and 'make sure my Squire gets a good education', "so, after I sat through that ordeal, I killed him and decided to just take the Squire and his teacher as thralls."

You wince in sympathy and lay a pat across your father's back.

"But, uh, one more thing," you sheepishly begin as Steinarr stares you dead in the eyes, the warning clear as the summer sun, "um, unrelated to my last question, that is." his eyes soften and you take a deep breath. "Why is it that the orthstirr of the dying transfers to their killer?"

"That's a good question and one that's easy to answer." He seems rather relieved to have a different topic of conversation and approaches this one with gusto. "Shaming strikes, they're called. Killing a man is one thing, but that act in itself doesn't bring you any orthstirr. However, if you manage to bring nid to a man before his end, you earn the right to some of his orthstirr." He tsks and purses his lips. "'Course, that's gonna piss his family off far more than simply killing him would've, so they'll almost certainly demand blood rather than silver."

You nod, putting that to memory. "And how does one 'bring nid' to someone?"

Steinarr flinches, a wince on his face. "Careful who you ask that to. But, to answer your question in vague terms, you damage his pride or his property, sometimes both."

"I'll keep that in mind." You nod and thank your father for his time.

What is coming to you, though, is Halting Vortex!

A shield almost as big as you are tall spins at a steady velocity as you defend against blow after blow. You do have to remanifest it after every strike, but it's at such cheap a cost that it's practically negligible!

As you walk home from a good session of training, you figure you should ask Blackhand a question that's been on your mind.

"How do I 'combine hugareida'?" You ask the voice in your head, who answers with his usual snark.

'You use them at the same time,' he laughs as you heave a heavy sigh, 'Alloying, though, is something else entirely.'

"And what is this 'alloying'?"

'Taking two separate hugareida and making something new from them. Fire and Water creates Steam. Water and Earth can create Mud, but it can also create Wood. Those are just a few of the examples I've witnessed in my travels.'

"Interesting," you mutter, mind filling with fresh ideas and new concepts. "Do you lose access to the hugareida you used to make the, uh, the Alloy?"

'You do not.'

"That's good to hear!" You breathe a sigh of relief. You'd been worried that you would lose Standstill!

'Speaking of Standstill,' Blackhand starts, more lessons on his tongue, 'my knowledge of it may be incomplete, but I haven't heard-nor-seen any Alloys made from it. I believe this is because Alloying doesn't work when the resulting hugareida is antithetical to one of the comprising hugareida. An example of this is Fire and Ice, which creates Water, which extinguishes Fire.'

"And Standstill doesn't play nicely with other hugareida..." You frown. That does put a knot in your plans.

'Correct.'

"So, what is that thing you do," you suddenly ask one morning as you watch Gabriel shovel snow from the farm paths, "you know, with your hands."

You press your hands together, palm-against-palm. Gabriel squints at you and plants his shovel in the snow. "You mean... praying?"

"Is that what it's called?" You quirk your head in a manner resembling an owl as he sighs. He mutters something about 'bloody heathens'.

"Yep," he pops the 'p', "and it's holy, so you better not misuse it or anything."

"How so?" You have to admit, it's fun to needle the Squire-turned-thrall.

He blinks as he's caught off-foot. "Uh, well, it's a tool to help deepen our relationship with The Lord? Through prayer you can channel your Fervor towards certain ends." He takes out the string of beads he always carries on him, and almost subconsciously plays it with thumb and forefinger.

You purse your lips, curiosity getting the better of you. He's obviously nervous when it comes to talking about this topic, but you just can't help yourself. "Can you show me one of your prayers?"

He scowls, the shackles on his wrists rattling. "I would if I could, heathen, but the only ones that these manacles have left me are those of the rosary and those aren't very... well, not very obvious to onlookers." The nervous fingering of what must be a rosary intensifies as he stammers. "I-it's part of our cultivation, b-but-"

You tune him out as he stammers and stumbles over his words. Why is talking about his faith so difficult for him? You go to voice this question, but find yourself locking eyes with Jerasmus as he exits the longhouse.

"Good morn to you, Young Lady and Squire Gabriel." The mendicant greets you with clasped hands and a gentle bow. "Forgive me for eavesdropping, but I couldn't help but catch the topic of your discussion." He smiles, big and wide. "I, of course, am rather well-studied on the subject of prayer. Is there anything you wish to learn?"

You can't help but notice how he subtly positions himself between you and the now-hyperventilating Gabriel. "Not right now... but I'll take you up on that offer later, alright?"

Jerasmus bows and Blackhand recoils in an almost cat-like fashion, a hiss ringing through head. "By your leave, Young Lady."

You squint in confusion as you try and recite what you just composed. Instead of flowing like a good poem should, it really just sounds like a jumbled bunch of letters and words falling from your mouth in a big, jumbled pile of vowels and consonants.

...Yeah, that's not doing it justice, not at all.

Do you wish to keep the poem or discard it? A poem of this quality will net you nothing.

"Hallr!" You roar at the voice in your head.

'What?!' The voice in your head roars back.

"Teach me fire!"

'Fine!'

Wizard-Owl daintily drops a sharpened piece of wood into your palm. He preens with clear pride as you examine the stake.

Runes wrap around the surface of the stick, carved and colored red. According to Blackhand, it's a meat-keeping stick. Which is a stick you stab into meat to keep it fresh for extended lengths of time.

Sounds useful, so you pocket it.

AN: Lotta information in this update.

I'm planning on having bird gacha trigger on the second turn of each season. So mid-summer and mid-winter. This way you don't get overwhelmed with magical items but also get a steady stream of them.

I've added an option in training to let you put dice towards understanding how the heck magical items work.

25-minute moratorium.

Lol, we are not keeping a 2 success poem.

That aside though, at least Halting Vortex is out of the way, even if we overshot it as I feared.

Hmm bird-gacha is both more frequent and less impressive than I hoped so far. That said, never know when preserving something might come in handy, and if we can actually learn Explosive Runes that'll be a lovely addition to our arsenal.

Pity about Standstill not Alloying - I would have thought it might combine with Ice or Earth, but then again we don't have those yet, so maybe it will.

So, is Fire In The Sky able to be combined with other Meteor related stuff or is it the one relevant meteor action we can take this turn? I'm guessing the latter, just checking.

Lol, we are not keeping a 2 success poem.

Yeah, no chance.

*shrug* They'll get used eventually, we do want to Master that one. We can now put zero dice towards it and instead pick up probably multiple Ignite Tricks. Doubled dice is sick.

Like, turning 4 dice into 8 dice + 1 auto success on an Ignite trick is ridiculous. And I am here for it.

Yeah, as long as we don't abandon our basic skills chasing the fairy after all.

I'm all for giving us a jet-dash and an explosive burst move, but we probably shouldn't go crazier than that.

This is pretty much exactly what I'm thinking. Like, 3-4 dice in each of those (turned into 6-8) and then work on basic skills.

We've been trying to get Leaping Cleave to Refined for literal years.

Fair, but it isn't urgent. It's good but because it tends to be a once per combat effect it being expensive isn't a huge down side. I intend to keep putting a die in it every turn rain or shine, but I don't think we need more than that.

We should consider building some Ignite tricks for our owl. Aerial fire bombardment would be pretty dope. Wonder if we could even put in a defensive fire-blast, a sort of reactive-armor deal?

[X] Discard the Poem

First, we obviously discard the poem. Second, the plan:

[X] Plan And Finally The Meteor

-[X] (Fire in the Sky) Alright, you've got the art skills, go see Aki to progress
-[X] (Poetry) Try to realize an Inspiration (Write in one of your Inspirations)
--[X] The Draugr
-[X] (Personal) Spend time with...(Write in)
--[X] Sten
--[X] Ask about receiving training (in smithing, combat, whatever he's willing to teach)

Training:
-[X] (Blackhand's Training) Try to develop old/train new hugareida tricks (Write in)
--[X] Train attack hugareida that charges thrown objects with explosive force 6d6 (3d6)
--[X] Train hugareida mobility trick using Ignite 6d6 (3d6)
--[X] Train a direct attack hugareida with Ignite that enhances our melee attacks (setting things we hit with a weapon on fire or making them explode) 4d6 (2d6)
-[X] (Steinarr's Training) Ask Steinarr to teach you a trick/some tricks (Write in)
--[X] Train Leaping-Cleave Trick 1d6
--[X] Ask about what tricks he would recommend for: defense, dodging, movement (mention the after images we seen by both the slagson and the draugr), and throwing. Preferably cheap ones.
-[X] (Training) Hamr (30 successes to rank up)
--[X] Train Glima 1d6
--[X] Train Throw 1d6
-[X] (Training) Hugr (31 successes to rank up)
--[X] Train Artcraft 1d6
--[X] Train Management 1d6
--[X] Train Scouting 1d6
--[X] Train Strategy 1d6
--[X] Train Wordplay 1d6
--[X] Train Weaponcraft 1d6

Orthstirr:
-[X] (Orthstirr Usage)
--[X] 5 Hamr
---[X] 3 Chop, 3 Defend, 3 Dodge, 2 Glima, (11 total)
--[X] 6 Hugr
---[X] 3/4 Artcraft, 3 Composure, 2 Scouting, 3 Silver-Tongue, 3 Tactics, 3/4 Wordplay (17/19 Total, depending on if Artcraft and Wordplay increase)
--[X] 4 Fylgja
--[X] 3/1 free for tricks (depending on if Artcraft and Wordplay go up)

So, for actions...we obviously want to do the meteor, and more orthstirr would be very nice, hence another go at poetry. For the third action...I'm not actually super confident on what to do, but Drifa is our one remaining family member with a negative opinion of us. I'd suggest checking on Stigandr, but we're hopefully doing that next turn after talking with the seeress, if we can arrange that.

For training, Ignite is sweet and those dounled dice are hard to turn down. We also want to keep progressing Leaping-Cleave and start researching the explosive charm if we can. Other than that, raising a bunch of skills that only need one or two successes seems the order of the day. Remember that going from 1 to 2 dice doesn't increase the odds of 2+ successes very much (it increases the odds of 1 success a lot, and adds the possibility of 3 or 4, but it's not a big advantage when attempting to get exactly 2).

EDIT: Dropped from 8d6 to 6d6 on our Ignite tricks to train Artcraft and Wordplay. 6d6 probably gets us to Rough Trick level and even 8d6 probably doesn't get them to Refined, so it's probably fine. Dropped Explosive Charm research for a hugareida needed to do something similar. Switched spending time with Drifa to Sten in order to ask him about training us, since that's time sensitive.

Wait, sorry for the double post, but I've noticed an error on the character sheet: We should have Composure 2, but are still listed as one success away. All other gains from the turn seem correct, but not that one.

And going over the character sheet I'm seriously considering moving training dice to put one into Artcraft or Wordplay or both, I wasn't aware they were only 2 successes from ranking up. Ugh. So many things to buy...
