So, with us currently being invisible ... I wonder if our Dragonflask fire would be invisible too. Reminds me of this thought I had for a spell.

I'm spoiling it because it's not a spell Mattie can currently even attempt to create, so no point forcing everyone to see it, but if anyone's interested in the concept I've included it below.

We don't have the traits for it, and I'm not asking the GM to comment about it because at this stage of things there's no point in wasting the GM's time with it, but I had an idea for a potential spell.

Invisible Fire.

This wouldn't occur to me at all as fire is usually outside of the Grey handbook, but invisible fire is a real thing, Ethanol Fire, and I feel like it might be swingable by a Grey who starts a lot of Fires despite that being more of a Pyro College thing in the same way the Grey's have a create Horse spell despite that being more of a Beasts College thing due to the strong thematic connection Ulgu has with invisibility.

Might require a spell ingredient.

[X] Dragonflask

Hit with BIG BOOM, and hey even if it isn't a killing blow? It'll probably make the selection of local trees to teleport to for her getaway a bit more sparse :V

The wiki says yes, but there are so many different sources of canon ... who knows.

Fang of Taalroth - Many in the realms of men believe this powerful dampener was once carried by the God of Nature, Taal himself.

It might be a Total War only thing, so I'm leaning towards it's probably not a thing. Be very cool if it was though, I'd love to swing by the Taalite's and be like "here's this thing that you're god used to carry around."

....

Though, even if it is canon to this quest ... Drycha might not be carrying it around? Seems to be vital to the plan to free Coeddil and Drycha might not be willing to risk that.
It definitely exists in canon (and she should have it, though not necessarily on her right now) but the only time it got effects on the battlefield was Total War.

I don't want to piss off the forest that helped us find Drycha by setting everything on fire.
I have considered this, and there's this army of woodsmen who've been clear-cutting the forest- the Forest is probably just on a hate priority list.
But also, I'm hoping Ice witches should be pretty useful for extinguishing a nascent forest fire?

I don't think its safe to have an active spell around you while using the flash.

so mathy will have to drop the invisibility to use it.

For a moment you think it is going to try to throw itself at you, but then the eyes dim slightly as Ulgu shivers through the air. You recognize teleportation cantrips starting to form, and have only a moment to act before it will be gone.
"only a moment to act before it will be gone"

This kind of sounds like we won't have time to use our Dragonflask in time. We need to get it out, drink it, and either spray it out or say a command word and spray it out.

I think a Cast Teleport spell is going to be faster.

Either Counter or Attack right away -- IMO, the Dragonflask is just going to result in us not going to be fast enough to finish it off.

Didn't the QM say that the clear-cutting is hardly affecting the overall forest, simply because it's just too big? Sure, the spirit of the forest might not like that, but I think it's an annoyance than anything else.

Dragonflask would be a good alternatives, but surprised is on our side. And if it failed, there's nothing can be done about it and we'll help mop up.

But if it succeeded? We can force her to fight on our term, with support. Let's see if she likes it when we do it on her

I'm really hoping rumor of this spreads and Mattie fighting epic hidden invisible battles becomes an in-universe joke. Stories start including Mattie on the winning side of battles she had nothing to do with under the justification of "yeah, she was probably there killing horrible beasties, we just couldn't see her. Prove she didn't counter that Chaos Sorceror and make them blow up."

It definitely exists in canon (and she should have it, though not necessarily on her right now) but the only time it got effects on the battlefield was Total War.

It's really my one quibble with using the flask here, but I'll probably still vote to use it once I'm caught up because 1) No guarantee it's canon to this quest, 2) even if it is Drycha might not have brought it to this fight, bringing this irreplaceable divine artefact which the deity it belongs probably doesn't want you having on a solo deepstrike where you might have to ditch you're body isn't the best idea, 3) .... if anything can survive a Fire Nuke it's probably a divine level artifact, and 4) I'd really love to use the flask.

1) No guarantee it's canon to this quest
The canonicity tier list:
Canonicity (for Quest purposes)
Tier 1: The Quest itself is primary canon.
Tier 2: WoQM applies unless it violates Quest canon (which I assume it has or will at some point).
Tier 3: Army Books (6th+), WHFRPG 2e - reasonably safe to assume that the fluff in these is canon unless the Quest or WoQM says otherwise. Game mechanics should not be taken as canon.
Tier 4: Black Library, White Dwarf articles - canonish, but the QM may not be familiar with them and the details are likely to end up varying if they are used.
Tier 5: Licensed video games, Warhammer Armies Project, WHFRPG 3e & 4e - mostly only used for things that aren't otherwise covered in higher tiers, and by default are not canon.
Tier 6: Army Books (pre-6th), WHFRPG (1e) - the Dwarf Priests Know Necromancy Zone. May be looted for ideas from time to time but is usually completely incompatible.
Drycha stealing the Fang some 50-odd years ago was in the 8th edition Wood Elves book, so it'd fall under "reasonably safe to assume the fluff is canon".

In this case they're just clearing the parts nearest to the road to build a barrier between one half of the Shirokij and the other. This would be a big deal strategically, but it's not even making a dent in the forest overall. From my back-of-the-envelope maths, the Shirokij is about twelve million acres, which is about six months worth of trees for our entire modern world. That'd take a whole lot of cutting with nothing but steel and muscle.
The Shirokij is small on the scale of Kislev, but it's an absolutely massive piece of land to only be populated by a small handful of villages. It's about a third of the size of Stirland, and almost a thousand times bigger than the Ghoul Wood.

It's even bigger if you consider it in terms of the entire Forest of Shadows, of which the Shirokij is at most a fifth.
