Here's that "sevirscope" idea the thread has long theorized about. Turns out the Hedgewise invented it long ago.

This also presents an obvious problem with the concept: Be very very careful when looking up. Because what you see can look back at you.

[ ] Slaying Time!
Trees can only sate Branulhune's hunger for so long. Seek victory and glory in vanquishing the enemies of Order! :V

I'd guess it was a roll to find out if Drycha was able to identify Mathilde looking at her, and possibly find where Mathilde was viewing her from. Luckily, it looks like we avoided that, probably.

I'm pretty sure Mathilde was still using her magesight to see most of that, also Kragg would probably explode that spell with his mere presence even without meaning to.

You leave Johann with the villagers, many of whom have grown rather friendlier since he removed his shirt - a habit he seems to have picked up in Tor Lithanel - and once more enter the cottage of Baba Brzeginias.
...did Johann get an abs specialization in diplomacy?
But having different paradigms is the point. Boney has a longstanding theme that different viewpoints on the same subject are of inherent value. It's the parable of the blind men and the elephant - having one group say Waystones are a thick snake, another say Waystones are tree-trunks, another that Waystones are like spears, that is way more valuable than everybody agreeing that Waystones are like trunks, because only those different viewpoints will allow you to conclude that Waystones are in fact elephants. That they express things in terms that are utterly different to other Project members is a good thing.
Indeed. We got a fair amount of Cardinal specializations here, but lacking the Mystic side is a substantial flaw thats hard to correct later

Outstanding update. I really liked the on-screen introduction to the Hedgewise. It feels enchanting and opaque in a way akin to real world fairytales or perhaps something out of the Lord of the Rings. Quite a different feel to the way Teclisean magic is described.

Also, interacting with Kislev will always have my vote.

Well yes, of course. This is completely unsuited for the ambitions the thread wanted to create a "sevirscope" for. It's decidedly not a pair of handy goggles for one's toolbelt. But that's because it's meant for an entirely different purpose.

Plus I think it's a wonderful demonstration of magic outside Mathilde's ken; Boney's been fantastically creative when it comes to Warhammer's various magic traditions, and I really appreciate this glimpse at how the Hedgewise see the magical world.

Kragg would explode that because magic dared to be within 300 meters of him and that's a grave insult. Can't have these plaitlings think their better then they are, where would we get if the youngens weren't thaught properly "grumble grumble grumble"

(can you tell that I'm still infected from rune lord quest updating?)

A chance to get involved with a new and exciting problem? Mathilde would never pass that up even if it wasn't a potential in with Kislev to bring them onboard the Waystone project!

A fantastic update all around. I started reading it casually on my morning walk to Starbucks, and when I came back got on my laptop and started over so I could read it more closely and hang on to every word. Just really excellent worldbuilding and writing.

(This also resulted in me catching some typos and stuff, because of who I am as a person.)
It is said that a Runefang can cut through a tree trunk so cleanly that the tree remains standing afterwards and still needs to be pushed over.
Runefang: Omae wa mou shindeiru.
Tree: Nani?!
The villagers begin to look at you with calculating eyes, and you wonder if you might have miscalculated.
Repetition of "calculating/miscalculated" feels a little awkward here, not sure if you want to adjust.
but there's enough logs stacked
there's -> there are (or change "logs" to a mass noun like wood/timber/lumber)
as your fingers are if it detects
it detects -> they detect
Perhaps that is sufficient answers for Paranoth.
that is -> those are (or answers -> answer would also work here).
[Insert Halétha comments here]
Ostermark Hedgewise are Ranaldites, right, not Halethans? That's why I thought the handsigns were similar and the presence seemed familiar. It's the Nordland Hedgewise who worship Haletha.

(Though this update has made me more hype about recruiting any Hedgewise, and the next turn we don't desperately need the Gambler we should definitely go grab some Halethans.)
I'm curious to see who the other magesight roll was for
I am pretty sure it was for whoever was on the other side of Part the Branches, to see if they noticed us. Standard trope in scrying spells: if you form a magical link to look at something extremely powerful, if they notice it they can use that same link to look back at you. Thankfully, they rolled low -- hopefully low enough.

Anyway! This was a very productive use of our time evaluating the local Hedgewise and laying groundwork for their eventual recruitment into the Colleges, which is absolutely 100% the reason we came there. I'm sure Baba Brzeginias is this close to dropping everything and moving to Altdorf to be properly trained. Just need to give her some time to think about it, more flies with honey and all that.

Seems like a slam-dunk to me, I'd been pessimistic about our odds of getting Kislevite magical traditions on board but this makes it a lot more workable if it pans out, so I feel like we should grab this with both hands. And next turn is Overwork-safe, so we're OK to borrow an action from next turn if need be.

Shame we didn't end up using the Protector this turn, but the Protector would have complicated our Talabheim adventure by making it abundantly clear to Alric that we were the source of all his woes, so I'll shrug philosophically about it. Though you know, I wonder if Night Prowler will work on Asrai settlements, if it turns out they set one up in Kislev's forests. It worked in greenskin mountains, after all. I wouldn't want to keep the Night Prowler active for our next turn (if we have to spend some of "next turn's" time on this, presumably that means we'd in-fiction need to have flipped the Coin), but we might still be able to wrangle some use out of it while we're still in its active period.

"Coedill Unchained" occurs in 511 during the Season of Doom (Page 33 8th Edition Wood Elves Army Book). That's 2007+511= 2518 IC, so we're a few decades behind the canonical free Coedill.

She might have scored a few background crits or something and unchained him earlier I suppose, however.
The "blazing sun" descriptor does not inspire confidence in me. Drycha is the least of evils that could await us there.

EDIT: And by least i mean that she probably is there and whatever she is trying to conceal might be an enraged treeman. Noone says Coeddil could not escape earlier or that Durthu might've wandered abroad if given enough incentive.

Ostermark Hedgewise are a matriarchal mystery cult, no one knows who they worship. I thought Halétha was a long shot, but it turns out the forest they live next to is secretly a part of the Forest of Shadows, so...

It's not like we are voting to challenge Treeman Ancients to a duel, the point here is to tell Kislev what is going on and do all we can to help. Kislev is still a kingdom with its own magicians and armies, ones that have endured many a dark thing trespassing its borders.

The Hedge mage most likely. I mean I do not think there were any hidden mages with us here in the heart of her power and if there were I do not think we would get even as much OOC indication as we did. Boney is not shy about hiding rolls when they would spoil something and rightly so.

But we already know her name so why would it be hidden. I'm more on the side it was something from the side we were spying on

This is a complicated vote.
On one hand, I am dying to read some proper esoteric research and finally begin the Project properly. On the other, this is a fantastic opportunity to get closer to the Hag Witches and Ice Witches, and the Hedgewise might appreciate the effort too - and recruiting those groups can only make the research better.

Well, I guess I'll have to be patient a bit more!

I had a dream of Luck as the last thing I dreamt about before waking up. Then I come find this waiting for me.
Time to roll some dice.

On the one hand, I really want to know what's up. On the other hand, if we get too involved in this and this eats into our next turn people might start making the argument that there's not enough time to recruit the Hedgewise, and I will lose my mind.

[X] Incomplete

Looks like Opportune is winning anyway, so it probably won't matter. Well, there will be move votes about how to actually deal with this thing, and hopefully we'll be able to finish this thing off quickly. I mean, how hard can it be?
