The CEO of the EIC and the Grey with oversight should be different people - and our oaths pretty much demand that the share is used for oversight and the company be a tool for duty - so I wouldn't recommend our order to Wilhemina. Those three orders won't stop her running the company as a business first. Light and Gold might actively help with that while Green seems to fit her current personality best and gives the best chance of great grandkids. Her actual talents/ interests might point strongly to another order so letting her decide has to stay on the table.

Priestess of Shallya might also suit her but it doesn't suit her position - the head of the EIC has armed forces under her command, has a full time job that isn't easing suffering and might well need to kill assassins herself at some point. So long as Wilhelmina sees Eike as her heir such a recommendation would fail.

We don't need another Grey mage, the magic will get redundant from our main pov.

Why should it. You just say it should be that way but don't explain, just asserting it.

The company being a tool for the good of the Empire and order world wide seems like a pretty great thing to me.

What Wind would a straight up "Transform into a Human" spell be? On the one hand Ghur Wizards essentially use something like this to transform back after having used a "Transform into some animal or beast" spell first. On the other hand it really doesn't seem like Become Human falls under either elemental or mystical Ghur, even for Elves/Dragons.

Eike is still a child at an age where I wouldn't trust her with a soup ladle, let alone important life decisions, so it defaults to the most responsible adult in her life that actually knows her.

Voting for neutral, because above all things, Wilhelmina will be the one who knows Eike best (aside from Eike herself who has no context for the decision).

Also a reminder that Amethyst explicitly includes forsaking previous claims to inheritances explicitly (metaphorical death and rebirth?).
Only entering into the Amethyst Order would prevent her from inheriting, as their initiates are required to part ways with all worldly possessions upon joining, explicitly including future inheritances.
I think whatever wealth gained afterwards has no constraint though.

Yes, the giving up of material wealth and inheritances and severing ties with family when someone joins the Amethyst Order is a death-and-rebirth thing rather than a blanket ban on Amethysts making fat stacks.

Harrumph. Such hypocrisy. The Amethyst Order hunts down necromancers but consists entirely of living dead people. Removing competition, maybe?
I imagine the issue with vampires is less to do with them being living dead, and more to do with being bloodsucking abominations anchored to existence by, like, all the dark magic.

Nah they don't have anywhere near ALL the dark magic... just imagine what we could do if we had all the dark magic... huh.

Hey Omegahugger I think you might be onto something.

You know part of me is morbidly curious as to what would happen if Mathy was unwillingly made a vampire. I mean we asked how the dwarfs would react all the way when we had just come to K8P, after Evil Hogwarts I think and the response was that they would probably react badly, but they might accept us. I imagine that by now the odds are flipped and they would most likely accept us. It would be a fun attempt trying to figure out what and who we can eat and if we can drink down some AV,
Try it and find out :)

The company being a tool for the good of the Empire and order world wide seems like a pretty great thing to me.

The CEO of the company has a fiduciary duty to make all the shareholders richer. As a shareholder herself, that means she's actively working to make herself richer, not as a side effect of helping the Empire or building an information network but as a primary purpose - thus breaking the vow of poverty. Even beyond that fiduciary duty, trade is competitive - if the majority of corporate actions aren't taken to maintain or expand its wealth and power before some other motive it will quite quickly stop being an effective tool for furthering that other motive i.e. the good of the Empire.

So a separation between the person responsible for making it a successful business and the person who is only permitted to own a share because it lets them use it as a tool for the good of the Empire (and finds the investment income an inconvenience) makes sense. There is a necessary tension between the roles. Then there's oversight - a Grey wizard major shareholder with access to the books is excellent for keeping things on the straight and narrow but management are the people with the most means and motive to stray - combining them is a recipe for perverse incentives.

I believe that the Stirlandian League may have had similar thoughts. :V
One of the major shareholders of EIC is a Grey Lady Magister, EIC exists to serve the empire, if it can make people running it rich, this is allowable, but the second the motivation turns to profit at the expense of the good of the empire, EIC dies by our hand.

You use Ghur to transform into weird hairless monkies, though why would you ever want to?

Who here wants to hear something real dumb?

I thought this quest was on hiatus because I didn't realize Boney had changed avatars, and ... I honestly barely even read the titles of quests anymore, I mostly just look for familiar avatars.

I passed by this quest like 20 times while thinking "man, I miss Divided Loyalties."

Wow, good job me. Incredible.
