Because I like them

[X] The Waystone Project
I've actually surprisingly cooled a lot on the waystone project, and just because it's very important doesn't mean we have to do it now. I'm willing to give it a shot to prove that it would be interesting to me rather than merely important lbut i'd rather poke at them a few times in Sylvania and come back in 10 years than go all in on them now.

Huh interesting;
"The High King's doing," Kazrik says. "Ever since he brought news of our northern kin and was crowned for it, dreamers have been imagining holdouts in every Hold from Karak Zorn to Karak Vlag to Karaz Ghumzul, and some even gossip of Holds over the seas."
This is about Lustria isn't it. I mean it is rumor but.

One thing about the Waystone project is that it can probably wait a decade. We're talking about elves and dwarves after all. If we want to do another project and come back when Mathilde is in her forties or fifties and has even more knowledge and experience with magical objects and enchanting, that'll actually be fine. The Waystones aren't going anywhere and the need is persistent but not urgent.

Personally I just don't feel like retreading he whole Skaven arc out of abstract attachment to a place we have never seen on screen in the quest.
I'm not even sure if Nuln will feature all that prominently or if it'll just be like what Altdorf has been for the entire quest--a nice place to visit from time to time, but otherwise, Mathilde will be operating out of somewhere else (Wurtbad, K8P, and, if the option wins, Wissenburg).

I mean in theory yes they aren't, the damage Chaos manages to cause will however continue without whatever dent we manage to put in that.

It's like saying "That broken Machine gun isn't going anywhere." Yeah sure it's not, the soldiers pouring through the gap it could be used to plug once repaired sure are though.

I just really like the idea of Princess Mathilde Weber.

To go along with the analogy though

"I sure am glad we have this firing line setup around the gap to kill them as they come through. The lines gonna need a break eventually though"

We've dealt with the present level of chaos pervasiveness for nearly 200 years with no real major changes to the status quo. Yes, we have less margin for error than we used to but unless a massive destabilising event happens. (Which with 8 peaks and Vlag restored is the opposite of what's been happening.) We have no reason things will get worse than they presently are.

Way stone project appeals to me because even if we are just getting set up and it takes a decade we can also use the research to do things like using our skaven magical engineering library to try to create human lighting guns or magical steam tanks. Just making other uses of the principles we study for it will be useful and fun.

It's not quite that bad! The Waystone network still works and is still largely preventing Chaos from "pouring through". It just works a little less well every century.

I think there's an actual case for "not yet" on the Waystone project, that it is something that Mathilde should come to only after continuing to refine her abilities with enchanted objects more. Maybe study ritual magic. Not that it'll be a disaster if she does it "too soon" but it might be best to approach as the capstone project of her career when she has another decade (or two!) of experience under her belt.

that's my feeling about it as well, yes its important, but its also something we could poke at every once in awhile as a side action until we get a concrete lead.

if we had actually looked into it and found something we can use to jump-start a full research plan (with equipment, elfs and runesmiths) I would be interested in dedicating to it fully.

but at the moment, the plan will be 'find waystones people won't miss or ask questions about.' and 'make sure no one would look at this suspsious research station in the middle of no-where.

and in that sense, Sylvania and the border princes are the best choices. (they are my Waystones, I can do what I want with them.)

Swamp town would be the worst for waystones:

Lizerdmen:... is that fucking, tiny, scaleless, monkey, MESSING WITH THE OLD ONES WAYSTONES!

This might come off as a foolish question, but in the interests of clarity, why do people want to clear the backlog we have? Is it frustration with the idea of having stuff unchecked in principle? Are there specific items people are interested in examining for a particular reason?
Both. For me personally, there is a specific topic I am extremely interested in (Divine magic); I'm not particularly interested in tongs or such, but I know that there are other people who are just as eager to delve into those actions as I am to delve into the ones I'm excited for, so in the interest of thread harmony it would be nice if everyone got what they wanted.

Also in the interest of thread harmony, an advantage of getting to a point where our backlog is significantly shorter is that people can be more excited about new stuff we loot or discover, instead of just seeing it as competition for the stuff they've been interested in for a long time that we've never gotten to.

Not gonna lie, I feel like anything in Nagarythe will be right up Mathilde's alley. They're led by basically-batman after all.

Do I want to see what will happen when the newly minted apparently-Dawi goes over to cavort with elves? Oh most definitely.

a ironic and sad trend that despite her major successes Mathilde's both the rulers she has served have suffered significant personal crises of faith partly as a result of her actions.
How did Mathilde cause Abelheim's crisis of faith? I thought that was more the Grand Theogonist, Kasmir and maybe Wilhelmina's influence.
Waystones I'm also very much in favor of and have spoken for before, as that should get us involved in a lot of interesting scenarios and places while pursuing a project of very great import.
What do you hope to gain from investigating the Waystone job? Personally, I hope for putting an Eonir and a Dwarf in a room and seeing whether we can work with that. And also having Algard refer us to a Jade Waystone expert willing to work with us.
Oh.

Damnit, that ruins my joke. I was kind of certain he was the one man dynasty.
He is a one man dynasty. But said dynasty is the current one, not the first or fifth. And I don't think they mint coins anymore, what with the lack of a functional economy.

God I want to see Thorgrim and Mathilde have a private conversation soooo bad now. They've never exchanged words before, except for the "Die Well" response. His cooperation is a critical component to the success of a lot of Waystone research, even ignoring the importance of his willingness to recognize that most of the secret is already known to a helluva lot of people already and it would hurt the Dawi people to keep his grip on it.

And beyond that, I want to see him as a character speak with the person who has given him a reason to hope again, twice.

I'm kinda expecting Mathilde to get a summons in the mail or something, but it would also be Extremely Good for him to show up at Karak Eight Peaks himself.

I kind of want to vote for them all.

Looking back upon it, I have to wonder how much having the Protector on through the Expedition affected Egrimms outlook. I know we're never going to find out in or out of character, but I really am curious if 'knowing' the youngest Grey Lady Magister really was doing it all from the goodness of her heart altered his perspective.
