On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Huh. I wonder if the Rune of Repair on a lump of Adamant would let us slowly make more Adamant outside a Smelter? Just shave cosmetic bits off steadily.

Interesting how this stuff highlights Grungni's top-down versus Valaya's bottom-up teaching and crafting philosophy. Gromril chain, even when eventually made accessible to non-runesmith, will still undoubtedly be the purview of only master craftsmen, those who have the vision, skill, and endurance to make full use of it. It's also an incredibly detail-oriented piece of work that you need to be utterly precise with in order for it to work.

Valaya's runes, on the other hand, seem made to be spread and used as widely as possible, to alleviate the greatest amount of inconvenience and trouble for the greatest amount of dwarves possible. They'd function best as a rune that every prospective apprentice learns, something put all over the hold so that each small effect they exert stacks up into something bigger on the whole.

Neat bit of dwarf philosophy, all told.

This Rune of Stacking as you've come to call it, somehow allows a container to carry far more than its normal capacity, though not indefinitely.
Ancestor's beard, we have a new rune to play with, and Valaya has created a blasted Dimension Basket!? The things e can cratr and carve it into, why imagine a repeater Bolt Thrower with its canister having 100 rounds and the dimension is only 25x50!!!

If Snorri were more interested in money, one really good use of the Rune of Stacking would be Jorri's business. Runing containers would allow each wagon to transport 50% more than they otherwise would have.

I'm surprised so many people are going with the QM choice option. This is a chance to really personalize a trial to make Beardlings suffer learn the way we want them!

In any case, I suck at making actual plans. Spent a good half an hour theorizing and only came up with stuff that aren't as good as I thought. So I might as well go with the plan that has the theme I was considering anyway.

[X] Plan Theme of Preparation

May the Beardlings knows how much they have it easier compared to their Elder!

The Rune of Repair... given the Runes it's linked to, I wonder if it's transmuting the air around the inscribed object into the materials needed for the repair?

EDIT: Oh, and to pay my vote tax:

[X] Plan Theme of Preparation

I want to somehow finagle an infinite ammo bolt quiver with the rune of stacking and some variant of the rune of repair/forging... Hmm...

Maybe in a few research levels. A rune of crafting as an upgrade to rune of repair. Although that would probably work better as a shuriken gun type setup. Some small simple projectile.

"Khazukan, Kazakit-haAAAAAAAAAARGH! YOU TWIRLING SAUSAGE THAT ONE WAS MINE! WE AGREED NAUGHT BUT FIVE YEARS AGO TO STOP THIS TYPE OF FOOLISHNESS!" Gimli roars, having leapt off the mammoth with his great axe impacting the skull of the enemy caster just seconds before an arrow impales it through the brain.
YOU TWIRLING SAUSAGE LMFAOOO. Honestly, all of their interactions are so good, A+ LOTR reference 10/10.

Few typoes/spelling things:
"How are your two young charges fairing lass?"
*faring, in this context.
"Cave-in, we had cleared out the area just in case it happened, but a bunch of clutchlings broke the cordon. Damn near got themselves killed if some of the rangers hadn't rushed in and saved them.
Missing a closing quote.
"Show this to me child," their Lord orders, beckoning the Bana forward.
*Brana.

This was never going to be the end of a chain here. There were always going to be more things to poke and prod, and make runes from. The only things that actually remove research from the list are the materials science options.

"This brain gave me the idea for an AMAZING new rune!" ~ Snorri, probably

[X] [Trial:] QM's choice.

Wanna see what Snorri does.

Personally I'm curious just how far out in the boonies Karstah is. It was said that she's the only local Runesmith. That wouldn't be super weird in canon and current time Warhammer but at the start of the Golden age? In this timeline? She's in the middle of friggin nowhere.

I wonder if the cleaving/division aspect to the Rune of Repair is related to/inspired by cell division. Rather than trying to regenerate all an object as a single whole at once, it splits off (either literally or conceptually) a tiny fragment of it and focuses all the power of the rune on multiplying that before letting that merge back into the rest as the rune moves onto the next damaged area.

this map has Kazad Haz-Drazh-Kadrin on it in the black mountains, i.e. Black Fire pass.
Khazid Anghazhar is marked as Karak Anghazar, so Karstah's "if this place becomes a Karak" becomes true in canon-verse. Presumably, anything to the west of that has not yet been founded.
