I don't see why we shouldn't purchase a grounding rod, seems like a good investment and we've got plenty of favor to burn.

I believe that a protective collar for Wolf has been brought up a few times. Would such an item fall under College Favors or Runes? Or should we be aiming to create something ourselves with enchantment? We could also try to purchase/create a collar with an offensive capability or possessing some other manner of utility. Thoughts?

Objection. If he's naturally likeable why does the thread not like him!

I don't know, I think his popularity has skyrocketed now that it's been revealed he's actually a punch wizard, and everybody likes punch wizards.

I'm interested in an enchanted collar for him at some point but I don't think there's any rush on it. Look at his current status:
He's certainly clever, knows a great deal of commands, and shows a great deal of skill in finding people who might have excess food to share as he wanders freely through Karag Nar and the Eastern Valley, but as far as you can tell he doesn't yet show the advanced intelligence that a bonded Familiar is capable of. And though he certainly doesn't hesitate to bark at your command, he's yet to expand his vocabulary past that. Your books on the subject suggest this isn't unexpected, as the mental development of a Familiar need not correspond to its physical ageing, as plenty of animals who become Familiars do so as grown adults. So far, apart from the magical power you can see flowing between you and him and his habit of obeying orders you haven't actually given yet, he seems no different than an ordinary dog - though he does, of course, exceed them all in the realms of Being A Good Boy.
While he's nearly fully developed physically, he's got a lot of mental growth still to do. We don't know what his final desires will be like; will he want to have items which help him with fighting, sneaking, scholarship, something else? It's much to early to say. Any serious investment into enchanted items for him would be unable to take into account his adult/fully-developed personality and needs.

Because of this, I think we should hold off until we know who he's going to grow up to be. Eventually, we can get him something best suited for him rather than something generically good.

How do we feel about purchasing a Grounding Rod item this round? (I believe 2 College favour? Does anyone have a reference?)

One of the things that could derail our plans- and that in a big way- is a bad miscast, and as I understand it this would give us a chance to avoid the worst effects. We don't get to enjoy our tower if we've already exploded into demons.

As the man says:

Honestly if we're going to get something to handle Miscasts, I'd like it to be something more permanent than a single use. I imagine that the Dwarves could get us something that will make up its cost. Not saying we should get it now , but still...
For reasons that escape me I called those books 'Warp Magic' instead of 'Skaven Warp Magic'. Corrected.
Eh, you could probably still get away with it (not entirely serious) given how many novels have Dhar users using Warp Lightning. Malekith, W'soran, pretty sure I've seen some other vampires do it. Too many authors interested in Unlimited Poweeeeeeer.

One morning, Karak Eight Peaks trembles on the edge of defeat, the largest Waaagh the world has ever known has surged out of the Darklands and driven the people of the Silver Depths back into their mountain redoubts. The East Valley and Caldera have fallen, and teem with a million Greenskin. All know that only a miracle can save them now. The Greenskin rejoice, for victory is at hand, as the Once and Future Git promised.

And then...

[ ] Tower of the Burning Shadow - to your sorrow, Burning Shadows cannot be cast on a mountain. To your delight, there's a way around that. There may not be a practical purpose to this, but deep in your soul you know you want to turn the entire shadow of Karag Nar into acid. 150gc, 4 College favours.

Given we're building towards a Greatsword trait, I really want to get an extra +12 on those rolls, to crit-fish. I think it's well worth the monetary cost. Also, Mathilde having the best collection of books on swording in the Old World amuses me. It's a very wizard approach to the problem.

Just did some ruff calculation and our library costs 6000 gc along with all the favours. That's 60 years of current EIC income. I suggest that for Estalia / Tilea knowledge we try to contact their thieves guilds to buy stolen books for a cheaper price.

RE: Spooderfrens

IMO placing them on Military/Diplomacy/Us depends on how you want the dwarves to see them.

Military: Not necessarily disposable military asset (although there is part of me that fear that the advisor will see it that way) but more under hierarchy of Dwarven military.
I think this option will bring steady good will to We (if successful) and generally the safest option, but under utilize them a lot.

Diplomacy: In this capacity, We are treated as a power that can (presumably) arrange their own assets, I think I like this option better because it opens up more pathway for spooderfrens, not only in Military aspect.
If utilized well, I can see We as some sort of vassal to K8P in the future.

Learning/Us: It's business as usual, we're well equipped to handle the spooders and presumably can forward our findings to other councilors but it put We as something weird that can be studied.

We can only buy up to Extensive/Regular from Bretonnia as per GM comment here. This limits our Imperial+Bretonnia bonus to 7. I don't think there are dwarf greatsword manuals but I suppose it can't hurt to try and get them if there are.

Prioritizing fungi over the snake juice seems a weird choice to me but if that's your priority I can't dispute your purchases there, I guess.

For what it's worth I still think it's worth going for another hit of the familiar bond. Yes it's risky but three of the powers that remain are incredible. Voice of reason which is essentially a free reroll against miscasts. Fortune which is iirc two re-rolls. Lastly the reservoir allowing an enemy spell to be held and sent back at them combined with the runic belt gives us a hilarious level of magical defence.

Marksdwarf pistol seems like it has occasions where it might be useful and it isn't all that expensive for Mathilde.

We can probably carry both it and the revolver anyway and just use which ever works best for the current situation.

So does anyone have a decent idea of where exactly Mathilde fits stat wise? What I'm asking is, do we have a scale or something? We've got 26 Learning and 25 Piety right now, do we have a comparison to what other magisters have for their learning or what other priests have for their piety?

25 piety is heroic which means that generic hero character battle priests in the table top fit there. There isn't really a learning equivalent of that in TT but we're in that kind of category for learning as well now. With advanced great sword mastery we'll get close to that with Martial before equipment.

(EDIT: Well, this is no longer spoilers now, so...) Nor Dhar Manipulation, the one that we just found out, either. The one that says "How to use another Wind to manipulate Dhar." Let's never ever use this one, okay guys? Look, I get that it's on the character sheet. But that is actually, factually, super against the Wizard rules. There's no excuses for when you do that, when you actually manipulate Dhar. So no trying to manipulate Dhar with Ulgu.

It's against the Articles, and it's not something you can rules-lawyer around. Nor is it something Mathilde can defend to herself. Just... let's never take that step. No.
We'll save that one for the next time the green meteorites land on Sylvania, plague burns from Wurtbad to the Bogenwald, and rats pour from the depths of the earth, okay?
...Those ****ing vultures.
Not much of an insult to Ambers.
