I suppose one could argue it a question between getting the We issue settled conclusively so we can really work on our research and improvement next turn with our tower's help, or get to it now because it's been too long...despite that wording I cannot say I'm not torn.

Voting this for now. Establishing a working relationship with Johann is a good idea and while sabotaging Mors may not be a good idea, Johann's action specifies investigation and our intent is to work with him. I doubt the GM will punish us for a bad word choice.
Won't this possibly damage our relationship with Max though? We just gave Johann six months off and now we're going to not only let him pursue his own project but we'll be actively helping him do it. Considering their antipathy towards each other I'm not sure that's a great idea. Maybe if we also give Max time off to work on his smithing it would be ok though.

I have changed the plan: Max is now writing up a Waaagh research paper, FYI.

That's enough to push me to support it if nothing else gains traction, especially since Plan Citadel gives Johann a vacation he's done absolutely fuck all to earn. While I'd prefer to wait till our lab is complete for snakejuice, I'm very sympathetic to the frustration of its supporters so it's not a dealbreaker in the slightest.

[X] Plan Citadel Focus

Nobody is poking at the coin or learning new spells, sadly, but we definitely owe Ranald that shrine.
I'd go for learning new spells. I am all ABOUT new spells. Here. I copied this from another plan and changed it a little.

[X] Plan Magical Mathilde
-[X] Instill corporate policy: always be scrupulously honest when dealing with Dwarves.
-[X] Current Task: Have Johann investigate the properties of the spiders' webs.
-[X] Current Task: Have Maximilian perform or assist with spider autopsies.
-[X] Teach the We Dwarven semaphore.
-[X] Help the We establish their new nest below the Citadel.
-[X] You have acquired the possession of the Temple where Ranald mugged Mork. Set up a shrine and spread knowledge of it throughout Karag Nar.
-[X] Travel to the Grey College and attend lessons there. (1 College Favour per class; 100gc can be paid instead for non-magical classes)
--[X] Spells of Grey Magic (teachers' choice; multiple spells)
-[X] Have a tower built atop Karag Nar: -100gc for 1 room, bonus to room's purpose.
-[X] Spend time assisting with a fellow councillor's task: Gunnars and Morrite Lore.
-[X] Request the translation item yourself (does not cost an action; converts 3 College Favour to Dwarf Favour).
-[X] The Gambler: Spells of Grey Magic

This plan burns 1 favor on taking a class which teaches multiple spells. Which spells we learn are random, and how successful we are at learning them is also random, so it's an action which should strongly benefit from two +20s on its dice, providing Mathilde with near-guaranteed concrete increases in her magical prowess.

There are many actions which Mathilde can take which are of benefit to her; they accumulate favors, might accumulate gear, build credibility, or slowly grind skills. Some lines of research may produce interesting or useful results fairly quickly. But none of those other actions- none of them- provide the simple, reliable, direct increase in power available from learning new spells. And if we keep learning new spells regularly, her Magic will go up.

Vote for the plan that learns new spells today!

Changelog: Swapped Max writing a paper on Waaagh Energies for Max doing spider autopsies due to voter feedback

And as long as I'm voting, I'll throw in a vote for these.

These are good points, we really shouldn't be starting up a new front until we've scouted all the competition and decided on a proper way forward. Going around haphazardly starting fights sounds like a bad idea. Best to wait until Belegar has decided where he wants to fight and conquer rather than potentially trapping him in a fight he doesn't want.

Also preventing the spiders from being able to make deals with anyone else is just good sense. Once they're firmly committed then maybe it will be a good idea but right now we can get a translation item for free so there's no need to teach them how to write.
I hear you. My own preference would be to build the shrine, honestly. But if I did that I would lose the Juice Demographic.

Looks good! I'll add it to my list of approval votes.

Darklight has a point. The problem with going for the Asp Blood is how unknown and high-stuff it is. But we really freaking want to do SOME research, and the benefits of it are notable.

[X] Plan Magical Mathilde

[X] Plan Not Really Preliminary Anymore

With this, we satisfy our need to research, do some good work on the We issue, and we get set up for some killer research next turn with our tower.

Honestly, why is everyone so opposed to studying the snake juice? We've been waiting for that for ages, and IIRC correctly last turn people explicitedly argued for setting up the lab first. It seems bad to justify delaying an action with preparing for it, and then not doing it.

Now, I could understand if there were some new, hyper-urgent thing that needed to be done, but there just isn't.

I'm not strictly opposed... is there a not-poking, yes making-Johann-work-for-his-salary, not-teaching-a-hive-to-write Plan that does this?

Edit: It's not retaliation against Dwarves that's the worry, it's the Skaven organizing a coherent reprisal against Spider hunting parties beyond Dwarven lines, which can put the alliance/agreement in jeopardy if not prepared for.
Ah, gotcha. Still, we're not promising the We perfectly safe hunting grounds, nor are they asking for or expecting that. They've been preying on the Skaven for a long time now, so reprisal seems like the thing the We would be prepared for or used to, anyway. They're not blank slates or the only sentient hive-spiders out there- they hinted (or outright stated?) that there are other hives of We out there.

Remember, our We are basically stuck in a dead end. They just want hunting grounds, period, and it's a plus that our goals and their goals line up well.

This is, as far as I can see, the only plan which investigates the snake juice, and thus it takes a bit of a priority.
I'm not really seeing why the snake juice an immediately-this-turn priority, higher than (IIRC) actually getting a proper lab set up to poke at it with.

No no, Mathilde is writing about the counterspell, Max is writing about generic Waaagh energy. I think those were separate topics.

If you put Max on writing papers you dictate, you can do two papers for one action and bring Mathilde's stats and traits to bear on both of them.

Publish or Perish (if Max is writing papers you dictate, two of the below can be selected for a single action):

I am resigned to the idea that we will continue to seat on a ever-expanding pool of liquid magic til Mathilde die of old age

it's always rough to see a good plan and realise that it probably won't gain enough traction to be a serious contender. Regardless, the vote doesn't close for a while yet so I can hold out hope.

The journeyman lab was the action that also meant they actually got somewhere to sleep and weren't seemingly homeless in the Karak. Nobody is opposed to studying the snakejuice, they'd just prefer to get a proper wizard tower so we can get the maximum number of bonuses when we study. It's literally the next turn and the modifiers a proper lab would provide us are substantial.

If you put Max on writing papers you dictate, you can do two papers for one action and bring Mathilde's stats and traits to bear on both of them.

Holy shit, that's amazing. Max really is the ideal write slave.

I'm going to laugh so sadly if Snake Juice doesn't win this time and the What To Build vote for the tower gets sideswiped and makes something that isn't a lab. It would just be so tragically delicious.

Won't this possibly damage our relationship with Max though? We just gave Johann six months off and now we're going to not only let him pursue his own project but we'll be actively helping him do it. We didn't give him six months off, we forced him to leave K8P for an admittedly good reason. As a result of that he probably got very little progress done on his own work, and he doesn't actually know we did it for a good reason because of the game of I know you know I know you know that we're playing. This turn we're letting him investigate the skaven which I'll add we do actually want to do. See how useful it was last turn. When we do it with him, we get to establish each other's skill levels and show him that we're willing to work with him if he's willing to work with us.

Also, Maximillian's relationship with us is completely different from our relationship with Johann. To begin with, Max is still a Journeyman while Johann is a Magister out in the open. Then there is the fact that Max actually wants to work with us. As part of the dwarf training, he doesn't actually get paid so a paying job is a god-send to him. Johann we sort of forced to work under us because we wanted a Magister. He doesn't really need money so much and we're actually taking away time he could put into his work. We've been heavily using the Stick in our relationship and we really need to give him a carrot to make him cooperate. If we can't make him work for us willingly, we really need to cut him off and grab another journeymanling like Panoramia or the Ghur duo before they leave.
