Correct. Belegar was excluded from the striking out and Mathilde's deeds miss out on a signal boost.
Thorgrim better hope he don't wind up in Mathilde's book... :V

Though they remain quite capable of picking off individual greenskins to feed upon, you fancy the chances of the Winter Wolves against this enemy, and are able to turn away from them with a clean conscience.
Mathilde is getting quite... confident in herself, eh.
"Oh, this Wolf-riding knightly order and thousands of Ulricans can look after themselves. They don't need me to take care of this Dragon Ogre infestation. If I hurry I can make it back to K8P for lunch with Titus!"
You guys want a Balrog? That's how you get Balrogs.
They're called Verminlords in this Abyss, I think. :V
guys, can we not build our tower over a pit in to the depths where untold horrors/skaven probably lurk?
Absolutely agree!
And we spent almost a decade underground, lets let Matty get a little sun!

I'll tell you what.

Memes.

But that's what the Favor is for!

One coin in ten goes for Ranald.

I feel like our untradational set up with Ranald may make one in twenty fine for now, and I'd expect we end up spending more to spruce the place up as we research more about Divine Connections.

Buy exotic shit from Karak Varr, Build the most pimping wizard tower imaginable, help out our little fiefdom in Stirland a bit.

Expand our library a whole bunch.

Try to acquire more books of Nagash for completely non-sinister reason's.

Fund an an expedition to lustria To become a Slann's Shoulder loli.

And with the rest of the 5000 gold left over? :V

She doesn't.

At least not really.

She's bigoted towards us for being cursed with Magic and would rather us not be anywhere close to her, but she doesn't actually actively hate us personally.

She'd probably be ecstatic about the opportunities such a canal would bring, while in the same breath requesting that we send a nonmagical representative in our place.

You're only the most out of those alive if you discount some of the prominent citizens of Tobaro.

Would making contact with Tobaro for assistance with further reclaiming or developing K8P be something we could reasonably do?

[X] Convince Esbern and Seija to stay long enough to deal with the spiders in the Chiselwards.

- if the spiders really are that intelligent and not evil, well, we can make use of them instead of just exterminating them. Plus spider-based goods like silk seems possible. Aside from their use in warfare of course.

Been thinking about Mathilde's quest for meaning, and I'm really starting to find it right here in Karak Eight Peaks and directly at Belegar's side. Mathilde's actions have once again made the world a bit brighter, and the declining Dwarves have got a shining ray of hope that has the potential to turn their entire civilization around, and that is going to spill over into the rest of civilization. Thorgrim can frown all he wants, Belegar is right and he needs support.

I just like the idea of Mathilde spending her life here. I really like the Dwarves, I really like Belegar, and this is a very worthy purpose to dedicate one's life to.

(Also, I'm starting to wonder if Kragg is gonna come back and be more positive on Belegar's chances and importance, to everyone's surprise)
Well, I'm certainly hoping that she can help them retake the rest of the peaks long before she dies, and then move on to doing something else.

I have to admit to being a little frustrated that the Bursars are the only point of interaction that Mathilde considers relevant enough with the Colleges to have an option. They shouldn't be primarily existent to her as a boogeyman or a burden she has to appease- she's part of them! And as was just pointed out, the Empire doesn't even realize what's going on in Karak Eight Peaks for the most part, how significant it is to the Karaz Ankor, or what the changes there will mean to the world economy.

There could easily be a "go meet with senior Magisters, a Lord Magister, or even the Patriarch if you can swing it; give a summary of the campaign results and the dwarf politics that you've have a front-row seat to over the past months, explain the economic and political impact of a resurgent Karak Eight Peaks, and see if you can get support for a larger presence from the Colleges of Magic in the area" option. Or something which builds up the Colleges as a positive force in Mathilde's mind instead of a menacing one.

This is absolutely something that Mathilde can be doing in the near future but it makes more sense to do so after she's chosen what her next role will be and she can deliver that news and call on what support the College may be able to bring to it.

The early scouting of the tunnel access is the only one that comes to mind, and I've no idea if that's favor-worthy or not. It might just fall under doing our job, similar to how scouting Karag Lhune or Karag Nar isn't worth any favor- getting intel gives nothing, only using it to accomplish things. Is that meant to be intentional (poor rangers, they don't get any respect for their scouting efforts) or is it merely that the acts tend to overshadow the infiltrations which preceded them?

Yeah, the high points of each period summarize everything else you did leading up to that. Dwarf biases are definitely a part of it, which is why the assassination of two Lord-level characters got you as much as defeating two heroes in battle.

Appropriately using our journeymen falls under commanding them and the favor for that is already accounted for, though I do hope that they're seeing decent favor returns too. Panoramia's poisons and work with rapidly establishing food self-sufficiency in the Karak are less flashy than Mathilde but significant contributions, and I imagine that Johann's work with the artillery is worth some nods. I can't think of anything standout the others did, sadly, but just showing up and helping probably got them a few points.

Maximilian and Johann are already leveraging theirs, Esbern and Seija were in it more for the Demigryph Knight Rep and scored some kittybirds for it, Panoramia's Halfling rep is going superbly but she's got no idea what she wants to do with her Dwarf rep.

[Battle of Karag Nar: +2]
Assassinating the Warboss +2.
If there are other significant and publicly known achievements I've missed, let me know.
Well, we've already got a lot of rep! But ok... :V

So, while the inner secrets of MorkMathilde are not known, we did publically talk about interrupting an Idol of Gork Ritual.
He was attempting an empowerment ritual for the Idol of Gork that was the shrine-"
Now I don't have any idea what an Idol of Gork is or would have meant for the battle for Karak Nar, but some other thread-goers said these Greenskin God Idols are Bad News- near indestructible destruction machines.
and I was able to interrupt the Idol's empowerment just as their disagreement was coming to a head, and the power that Mork invested in trying to combat the Idol was lost - perhaps permanently - as the Idol shattered."

Is that worth anything? (I'm assuming regular stuff like 'found and secured a Vast Treasure Hoard' doesn't count?)

[X] Karag Nar penthouse

Tower penthouse hell yeah.

[X] Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.

I feel that the returns from scouting the peaks will be better the sooner we do it.

[X] Convince Esbern and Seija to stay long enough to deal with the spiders in the Chiselwards.

Dying of hunger my ass, those spiders are smart and they are planning something, of we don't figure out what it is, it's going to bite us in the ass, possibly literally.

[X] Claim the site where Ranald mugged Mork and build a shrine to Ranald there.

It has to be done

[X] Write a series of papers on the magical phenomena you witnessed. Or better yet, get your Journeymanlings to do the actual writing.
[X] Convince Esbern and Seija to stay long enough to hatch the supposedly Lustrian eggs and study and possibly train whatever hatches.
[X] There's a growing concentration of royalty here. Get to know King Kazador, and this 'Sky-Thane' Prince Gotri.

I'd mentally excluded the godmugging but forgot to account for the Idol. Adding.

Not a word of Karag Nar hoard or the supposed treasuries of the Citadel. Belegar's being a bit secretive, isn't he, @BoneyM?

When you're handing out silver, keep quiet about your gold.

That said, the treasuries of legend are below the Citadel. They will be the target of future efforts.

Karak Eight Peaks is going to arguably be one of the most important trade and information locations in the world, so helping establish it further would mean a great deal for both the College and the Empire as a whole. It's an information nexus towards the East, a magical nexus that should be intriguing to the Colleges, a source of weapons from Karak Azul, in general a massive trade and economic boost for the world really, and notably is now also home to a great deal of human and halfing settlers.

The Karag Nar penthouse is an easy choice right now, as it's going to be the most in demand location that will be picked up if not taken. Even if we eventually decide to move our magical operations elsewhere, the great strategic advantages of this location mean that it would still be very valuable to have in our possession; and the sites that are likely to be more magically significant aren't likely to be in demand. The Grand Abyss likely won't ever be in demand at all, so there's little reason to take it right now.

I really can't argue more heavily for Esbern and Seija staying to help with the spiders. We know that these creatures are sapient, so the knowledge that they are currently starving and dying and likely to be exterminated very shortly is more than a little horrifying. These are potentially a species we can interact positively with, it's just we can't communicate effectively with them and right now are limited to just clashing. There are Amber wizards here though that can help greatly with this aspect, and even if the chance of peaceful relations aren't overwhelming it should still be worth it to try and make the world a little bit better rather than just dealing death, and notably, what are likely to be thousands of living creatures dying in the near future should take vast priority over two eggs. Thus this is my preferred vote for the Amber Wizards, with the benefit of them staying should give us capabilities that neither the King or ourselves possess.

The second option I've taken is writing the papers on the magical phenomena we've witnessed while it's still within our and all our journeyman thoughts and memories, along with the benefit of them all viewing the battlefield from different positions and having different senses so the overall report should be stronger than just writing down our own experiences. This is similar to the above likely to be a limited opportunity, or perhaps more accurately a diminishing opportunity, where we can provide great knowledge to the College of unique magical events and experiences so that it can be shared and taught more widely in the future. Notably this is also likely to get both Mathilde and our journeyman more College rep, which can be spent in the future for favors or magical items, in general improving the overall competence of our journeyman so they can contribute more, along with more college rep potentially meaning more Wizards are likely to visit. A plus to this option is that it can be enhanced by the Gold Wizard spells, so if any dice are going to be rolled, it's likely to get bonuses towards it.

The final option I was torn on, and went for the diplomacy option and interacting with the royalty. It helps provide connections for Mathilde with both people offering unique opportunities in the future whether that's reclaiming other holds or traveling via the air, and ideally I would hope that a meeting involving Thorek Ironbrow and Kragg would be involved as they are both important as foreign relations, and this is a limited opportunity where both are at the same place. I would love a scene where Mathilde and them both go see a waystone and see the ancient Dwarven runecraft on it.

I was very tempted to go with the Ranald Temple option, but with what happened there being unknown it's not really a limited opportunity given the location won't be claimed, and we can easily take it next turn.

I know we like to be PC here on sufficientvelocity, but so far as I know forest spiders aren't sentient and they eat people.

We don't need to open diplomatic talks with them. We can just kill them.

The thing is, we don't actually need dinosaurs? I mean, who's going to be spending actions trying to take care of some salamanders or whatever once Seija and Esbern go home? Us, probably. Ain't nobody got time for that.
I can think of three main reasons we want to keep the Amber Wizards around for a while.

1. Getting them to help write research papers. They provide an invaluable extra perspective that we want to keep them around for (also means less work for us if they're doing it).

2. Getting them to help with the Spiders. For a start we might be able to avoid a potential genocide of a possibly sapient species which is nice. Also silk goods and spider warriors are cool. Also more credit for a research project.

3. Dinosaur eggs. Mostly I want them to raise them up so we can trade them to the Imperial Zoo and score a pegasus. Also the Amber Wizard favor for the research projects we can stick our name on. (We can always just pay someone else to look after the dinosaurs if the Amber Wizards are busy, we won't be spending actions on them unless we want to personally ride them around or trade them for cool stuff.)
