One possibility people haven't mentioned is that we could try to teach our new spell to some of our Journeymanlings. We might want to do so next time we have a social vote.
Dwarf Reputation: 20
Dwarf Favours: 3

Spotted this on our character page. Looks like we're making decent progress already.
This is a much cooler name. Also fits the naming scheme of WHF.

It looks like your post is missing the spell name vote you're talking about.

I wonder, do dwarves get Mathilde favour? Is the accumulated Mathilde favour from the Sylvania campaign the real reason they got us for Eight Peaks?

As a side note, is the below the map we're using:

On the other hand, Mathilde won't always roll two natural 100s in a single day, assassinating the enemy leader and throwing them into anarchy and then essentially perfectly leading another section of the battlefield.

We still need to seize Karag Nar to secure the Expeditions supply route, and that would also probably be a messy battle, as we don't want to be hit by the orcs sallying from behind, so we're also on the clock. We may need Mathilde to disrupt them then run over to Karag Nar to sabotage in there.
First of all thanks for the map.

Also as for the casualties we haven't actually seen the numbers for injured, crippled and killed yet so let's not get discouraged before the figures come in. Considering the sheer amount of damage Mathilde did (especially that Warboss) I expect they'll be surprisingly light despite the descriptions of bloodbaths.
Our forces also didn't fall into any traps or make any mistakes and generally performed excellently as well. Besides Dwarfs are tough and wear heavy armor (except for slayers) so they're hard to put down for good, with any luck most of them will pull through and our death count will end up nice and low. You can do it Dwarfs!

Although I love Mathilde's Aethyric Projection, I prefer:

[] Mathilde's Multidimensional Aethyric Projection

As Mathilde's MAP is a more amusing contraction.

On Wolf, he's probably enjoying being spoilt by the Halfling cooks, and doesn't need to be fussed over by Mathilde as well. However, now is a pretty critical time in the wake of a great victory, to bond with people that matters to, which doesn't include a young dog/wolf. Not focusing on him right this moment shouldn't set a theme, as we've already arranged regular (daily?) training sessions where the Amber Wizards show Mathilde how to train him. As a result, this should not set a precedent of neglecting him.

We do? I thought one of the main points of taking Karag Lhune was to secure a supply route through the King's Gates.

Here:

The dwarven equivalent of back-of-the-envelope calculations say that if the imminent assault is able to take Karag Lhune from at least the Chiselwards upwards, then they would only need to take Karag Nar (the mountain between Karag Lhune and the East Gate, which was much less built up than the two main mountains of Karag Lhune and Karag Zilfin) and either establish or rediscover a route through the mountain to Und-Uzgar to be reasonably secure. This is, however, based on a whole lot of conjecture, and there'll undoubtedly be other threats that need to be dealt with before the Expedition can be declared successful.

Way back during the planning stages at the start of the Expedition, I misread the map and thought the King's Gates were halfway up Karag Lhune rather than alongside it, and by the time I realized it was far too late. So Karak Eight Peaks now only has two main external gates, and the King's Gates are the entryway to Karag Lhune.

So, basically, we need to reconquer at least one peek, and deal with known and unknown unknowns which live down the mountains.
And I would not mind sticking around for a while until full reconquest or afterwards too. Dwarves are a very, very, very trustworthy employer.

Are you saying Wolf doesn't matter?

:(

No. I'm saying that the victory doesn't matter to Wolf. It's just another day to him. For the other people here it's the celebration of a historic victory that should echo down the ages. We should take advantages of that

I'm pretty surprised it can be misread that badly, given the context you didn't quote. I can see rhetorical reasons to misunderstand, given that it allows mischaracterisation of the people arguing that there are more urgent priorities, but it's not a good way to argue.

Seriously. Mathilde went scouting for a day at a time without anyone raising an eyebrow, but now we have something actually absolutely time critical to do they want her to play with her dog instead?

I'm 90% sure Atam wasn't serious and was attempting the virtual equivalent of puppy-dog eyes to fish for hugs.

Well... this spell is awesome!

It won't change the battlefield in dramatic ways, it won't make the enemy army route in terror, but it will take the gathering and expression of information and turn it into a tool that will save lives while causing immense problems for an opponent.

Also, every Grey Order Magister whose looking to plan a strike against a static location will want to learn this spell. A relatively simple spell that allows one to plot out guard positions, locations of interest, and presence of agents? This is going to be valuable for the ability to clearly communicate where to go and how to reach there. I can just imagine a couple of wizards taking up a large room in the Grey Order building and drafting a map of an entire city to figure out where exactly traitors might be hiding.
Note, this is why I want our name on it: every time the spell massively simplifies something, people will think of/thank Mathilde.

It's not ego, it's the basics of climbing the ladders of academia.

People will be able to go "oh, that Mathilde? Like, from the spell?"
