Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

If we manage to blatantly no sell Chu Song's build with a piece of equipment given by the Cai she's going to be so furious it would be funny.

[X] Plan Untethered

Now... before we go all gunho on this idea

@yrsillar what is the maximum height that Ling Qi can fly up to from a resting position?

I mean, the dress indicates that it can recover from 200m fall, so I assume that 200m would be the maximum possible, but we also don't have a hard number on how high the suit can fly upwards.

Now mind you, while Untethered is a good plan, it's not perfect. Chu Song--if anyone--has counterplay for flight, but it won't be perfect counterplay because it's just such a crushing advantage.

After all, her anger is focused on the Cai, and flying early has been something pretty much reserved to us and her. But it won't be perfect counterplay most likely.

What kind of things can we predict out of this?
Fundamentally, flight gives us 3 dimensions in which to dodge, so there might be a slight malus to her dice or a slight buff to our own.

However, there seems to be no indication that our defense should suffer, as we don't need to be touching the ground for our defensive arts, and if we can move up to 78m high we should be fairly safe from most melee attacks.

If I was a person expecting flight, but I had limited options on how to deal with it, I would attempt to chain or taunt Ling Qi down to the ground. This... won't work particularly well because of Six and GCD. Other than that, I would attempt to scale the trees and use those as platforms upon which I can leverage my longer distance arts for greater effect. Even a meter or two would help.

Last but not least, I would attempt to physically launch myself and grapple the flying opponent to the ground. This... also won't do well against us because of GCD and Thousand Rings Unbreaking.

Otherwise, she needs to have prepared arts that have a distance of 76m+ for after we move upwards twice. That is... reaching it for a melee face puncher build.

The downside for this is that we will be spending an additional 9-12 qi just to be in the air. This is substantial, but our qi regen should hopefully mitigate the costs substantially.

[X] The floor is lava V2 : Release zhengui and have him attack Chu, while we fly out and start setting up FVM. Once FVM is fully out buff him, and when Chu get caught by FVM, use FSS to finish her.

The only counter to flight, when you yourself don't have that ability, is to try and shoot your target down.
Lucky us, we have FZ that give extra passive def dice against all projectiles, on top of everything else...

Not for the match specifically but for the Tournament: it does a surprisingly nice job of misdirecting our opponents to our skills. In the Prelims, and most of the year really, all our public fights have largely seen Ling Qi never directly engaging with anyone. And this reinforces that, and should be a real nice surprise for Ji Rong when we bust our TRF :drevil:

I imagine she's either going to use the Wind attacks from her sword to try to hit us directly, or get into a dispel war with us over FVM while we're flying. We have lots of passive bonuses in both those circumstances.

I see plan untethered as bad showmanship and pay to win. It would work extremely reliably, yes, and it would also be completely within the rules. I still don't like doing it against an opponent I think we can defeat without. I'd much prefer using it against Ji Rong, since it would make a much more pithy political statement then, while also coming at a time where we need the advantage more.

That fight would be between two talented commoners pledged to rival nobles. Showing off the difference in backing would grant CRX prestige, while using it against an arguably already inferior opponent might be seen as a cheap victory.

-------------

Edit: Of course there is a benefit in appearing as if we relied on superior artifacts to win against melee fighters and then surprise everyone the next round as well… Decisions decisions…

Edit 2: Wait a minute. Was Ji Rong the guy with the bow and special arrows? In that case, we should definitely fly in this fight.

Pay to win is explicitly a thing in Xianxia, and is entirely expected.

Of course, but time and place, you know? Relying on it as central to our strategy implies weakness otherwise. It takes the place of other ways we could show off. Similarly, using it to defeat "equal" opponents shows of the strength of our backer.

It's a trade-off. While I think the idea is wonderful outside-the-box thinking, and definitely want to use it, the question is when it works best to razzle and dazzle the audience and our opponent.

Edit: was Ji Rong the bow user? That would pretty much necessitate we use the gown now and stay on the ground against him.

Doing this against a Chu just reinforces the message about how valuable it is to stay on the Cai's goodside.

In this instance, although I dislike that we have to use this kind of analysis, that makes this an even better tactic, as it sends a message out ultimate liege should approve of.

No, Ji Rong is the other commoner that we have butted heads with who joined Sun's faction. He was the individual who was time stopped for a month.

His kit seems to be primarily melee/mid range, but he has a wicked ranged attack that seems to deal perfect damage. He also has some high mobility stuff. He also seems to like the elements of Heaven and Fire. Lots of electricity and plasma.

Actually, I'd argue it's a pretty perfect time. Even outside of political concerns, LQ just had a prelim where a much more gross pay-to-win item was used against her at the behest of the obvious rival faction. Sun took the gloves off first, we can feel free to use our own grossly overleveled piece of gear now.

Well, I don't know. If our opponent is a pure melee build then a talisman that gives you flying is probably an even stronger direct counter to no-sell her. The gown is also a much higher level item, as it gives a persistent Realm breaking capability, as opposed to, IIRC, a single use mid green dispel.

The flight gowns seem to be a much bigger deal than almost any other parental intervention in the tournament, including the sum total of everything that the Sun have done, simply because it counters so many tactics and options at this Cultivation level. It's why we did so well against Shen Hu, apparently, as well.

@Ayashi I don't know if inserted tallies have a Merge function, but there are more Into the Shadows votes further down the tally; there were 8 during the last one.

perhaps but i have no idea how the tally thingy really works so i'm not going to start tinkering with it...

  • [X] Once More, Into the Shadows
    [X][X][X]
    [X] Plan Untethered
-[X] Fly directly upwards while preparing FVM, denying Chu Song the ability to interrupt you. Then, once we have established Traveler's End, use Springs End Aria, dive down, and let Zhengui out to join the fight. Chu Song will find the battle much more difficult while under the full weight of our debuff techniques.
[x] Set up and Stick in
[x] Set up and Stick in
[X] Turtle Fortress: Express Zhengui and work together to reinforce your position, stacking defenses and area-of-effect debuffs to make ourselves unassailable. If we can sustain an inviolable core, Chu Song will only weaken over time, letting us take her down at our leisure.
[X] Once More, Into the Shadows
-[X] Wind, Thunder, and Mountain are Elements primarily good at getting in your face and then beating you to a pulp there, they're not necessarily so good at situational awareness. Make use of One With Shadow and Grinning Crescent Dancer to fade into the darkness of the forest--using Twilight Beauty if needed to achieve Low Light early on--and deny Chu Song a target while finding a good spot, and then arrange an ambush along with Zhengui. If she decides to sit tight instead, she can accept you having as much time as you want to spool up your mist and other debuffs, and fall on her with the force of an avalanche. Be willing to summon additional help with Abyssal Exhalation if you need to set up a multiple attacker mosh pit, but keep PLR and the Horror up our sleeve at the moment.
[x] Set up and Stick in
-[x] The terrain is neutral, but you can mold it into your favor. While setting up the mists, avoid melee defensively as best you can. Once the mists stick, release Zhengui and together turn the area into a frozen ashy mire, while setting up defenses for the both of you. If Chu Song has a strong dispel, do like Heizui and use it to wear her down, but if she fails work towards Traveler's End. Do not get sucked into a flying sword or spirit beast duel, it's best to keep all three targets where they can be engaged together, as that is where Zhengui and your Singing Mist Blade both excel. Elegy can be used to isolate instead of distance. Fight around Zhengui so he can disrupt them, and if they take their attention off of you, slam an opponent hard. If Chu Song escapes or tries a skirmish strategy, don't waste energy chasing, but try to mislead her and get her stuck in again - unlike Shen Hu you have the advantage that she must engage you to win.
