Forge of Destiny(Xianxia Quest)

[X] "Because I am a selfish, greedy girl."
[X] "She has that which I lack."
[X] Power
[X] It does not bother me to lie, cheat, steal and similar.

The husband she brings out to conceive heirs before putting him back in his little hideaway where she doesn't have to look at him...
Does conception have to male/female for high level cultivators?

I remember that there was one prestigious family started by a man and his sentient assassin's dagger.

Well yes if you have nigh-impossible standards of "trying to be more "just"" then of course you aren't going to believe that. Please point out to me where we ignored any options about saving orphans or rescuing lost mortals in those weeks?

Voting option are what is iC for ling qi. The fact that we didn't get a single one to help the downtrodden is the proof in and by itself that Ling Qi doesn't care.

[X] Because I want to see where she is leading towards.

Ling Qi want to see if that's possible and I dislike the fact that most big vote try to cram 3 reasons when we have been asked for one only.

Edit another vote I like :
[x] "Because I am a selfish, greedy girl."

this is basically the Kai Merah vote put in IC words. My main gripe with it is that LQ seems to refer to herself in pluralis majestatis.

We were given a land to spread Our roots.

Instead of

she promised me land where I can spread my roots.

But that is a minor issue.

Well we know from yrs' talks about gay relationships being seen as youthful dalliance before getting married and producing heirs, that conception seems to need male and female humans. What people can do with spirits, whether beast, object or other, is less known. Sixiang at least seems to have a completely fluid gender and sex.

[X] Lady Cai's offer was the one that offered us the greatest potential for growth. She offered us a home where we could extend our roots, opportunities that would let us advance as a cultivator, an ideal that would help us grow as a person.

  • [X] Ling Qi follows Cai Renxiang because
-[X] Absolute material advantage granting growth, security, influence, etc (up to yrs how much to elaborate on this)
--[X] Integrity of Renxiang's character meaning she can be trusted to look after her minions
---[X] Interest in being a better person and seeing if Renxiang's ideal world is even possible to build in real life.
[X] Lady Cai's offer was the one that offered us the greatest potential for growth. She offered us a home where we could extend our roots, opportunities that would let us advance as a cultivator, an ideal that would help us grow as a person.
[X] Because she brought order when it was needed. Because the world she seeks to forge is the best for me and mine.
[X] Because I want to see where she is leading towards.
[X] I am following her for the advantages in establishing my house and because I believe in her integrity as a leader who won't squander what I create... and to guide my own growth in such a role.
[x] "Because I am a selfish, greedy girl."
    [X] Power
[x] I follow your daughter because through action and reputation, she has proven herself deserving of respect. Moreover, I see Lady Cai's path as the best for my personal growth, both as a cultivator and as a person. Though I still question the feasibility of your daughter's vision a better world, it is a worthy goal.
[X] She told me that she would earn my loyalty.
[x] Because through action and reputation, she has proven herself deserving of respect. Moreover, I see Lady Cai's path as the best way to create something of my own; as well for my personal growth as both a cultivator and person. Though I still question the feasibility of your daughter's vision of a better world, it is a worthy goal.
[x] It does not bother me to lie, cheat, steal and similar.
    [x] I want to believe.
[x] "It seemed like the most interesting option available."
[X] Because she is my best path forward. And I want to see where her path leads.
[X] "Your daughter has earned my trust that with her guidance I will become the best cultivator, noble, and person I can. In turn, I wish to faithfully aid her in the pursuit of her path, even if I cannot see its end as I am now."
[X] I follow her because she offered me resources, for the greatest opportunity to create and build my house, and to see if she can convince me that her words can really be more than just words.
[x] Because I like living, and hate saying goodbye.
[x] Your daughter's offer was most attractive, and her goals and leadership proved worthy of my respect. I decided that me and mine will thrive for pledging my loyalty and efforts to her.
[X] Because the world she seeks to forge is the best for me and mine.
[X] I am not satisfied with the world or myself as it is. I don't know if it's possible, but I want to walk the long path toward justice at Cai Renxiang's side.
[X] "She has that which I lack."

I will try to make a vote that's more guideline than exact words.

I still absolutely hate the idea that we the players are going to choose the IMO lazy and unsporting option of having the GM answer the prompt instead of doing it ourselves. Accordingly, I've tried to put together an actual response matching the priorities put forth in this this vote.

[X] I follow Lady Cai because of the absolute material advantage she offers; because I have seen her integrity of character and judged that she would act fairly and honorably to those under her power; and because I want to see if the ideals she seek can truly be brought forth into the world.

Even votes that aren't lists get paraphrased. While that vote does look unfinished, I don't see it as being particularly different from normal paraphrasing.

Can you not switch out your plan when your previous plan was the only one competing with the winning vote? :(

I don't think people are voting for me by name, so I don't see how it matters.

Still, approval voting is a thing, so I might as well vote both. That reflects my preferences much more accurately in any case.

The hiring manager is here and instead of just saying growth opportunity at the initial entry interview, we're deciding to talk about the salary and benefits.

Just because it's part of the reason you joined the company, it doesnt need to be just crassly put out there. Dude. Some things both sides understand and yet don't need to say.

As for making a priority list... this is a test for the narrative driven quest going forward, since without the mechanics I feel like I need other vectors of voter engagement. How the thread deals with this will help me determine how to structure such votes going forward.
If I may, if you're going to be offering votes in a narrative-driven quest, the #1 thing you must do is clamp down hard on attempts to take "all of the above". Offer decisions that have clear dividing lines, or mutually exclusive things, and don't even bother offering votes where the optimal choice is to do multiple things or especially everything - that should usually go without need for a vote at all. Offer write-ins very sparingly (this is actually a good example of a good write-in opportunity), and manage your vote choices hard. Never offer a vote option that does nothing, nor a choice that has little consequence. It doesn't have to be serious consequence, but if two picks ever lead to the same thing, it doesn't work because it breaks the illusion of player choice. The place where a vote is called for is often different from the optimal place to break in a narrative. In a quest that does not divide up by mechanics, vote choices are sometimes more important than the content of the update. Managing quester expectations through your calls for votes is a key responsibility. It may well be beneficial to have a question answering period after a call for a vote, and only then to set a deadline.

I like this one, it is more succinct and de-emphasizes the whole "because I'll get paid filthy amounts of money" part.

Yeah, as much as we signed up with Cai for the resources, actually mentioning it in polite conversation with our boss's boss is kind of a bad idea. At the very least, it shows that we have a very poor grasp of when and were certain topics aren't socially acceptable, which isn't a great trait for a potential spymaster.

Question for the math people on this thread: if somebody joined the Outer Sect with Talent 8 and botched most of their social/resource gathering rolls, where would their cultivation be at the end of the year? How about Talent 9?

In setting people can't just get a numerical read on other people's talent. To some extent they have to infer it from your growth rate. Ling Qi has gone from completely impoverished, knowing nobody, and zero cultivation to Green/Bronze + full Green art suite in one year. I wonder what kind of talent that indicates for somebody who didn't nail their key early social rolls and have a team working with spreadsheets to optimize her cultivation.

Well, Ji Rong should be around where we are currently. He might be in appraisal, actually. He has consistently been going faster than us even without all our extremely lucky pills and while being put in prisons with regularity.

Being Talent 7 means gaining the equivalent of 10+ weeks compared to us at Talent 6 if we dismiss the breakthrough or meridian advantage (E.G, a Talent 7 Ling Qi would be in week 42 where she is now even if she didn't get her breakthroughs any faster).
