Im my earlier post there is a canon instant where the horror is used in a situation where the shaman was not an active participant of the fight.
If he can combine his scouts into a horror while being a few hundred meters away, I see no reason why we cant use the horror as soon as we enter the tourney and have him next to us and zhengui.

I'm going to be honest, I can't take plan "Eye to the Future" seriously. The main stumbling point I have for it is the basic premise, or why those actions? I understand the concept of working towards the future, but right now is not the time to do so. We have 6 actions and the plan wants to spend 2 of them on things that won't help for the tournament? The tournament that defines our placement in the sect, and the tournament that IC and OoC Ling Qi has been stressing about for months now? Now is the time that is chosen to take 33% of her time and do nothing to help her chances for the tournament?
As to the argument that the horror will hurt her chances in the tournament, seriously? Did getting the next level in TRF hurt our chances or would getting the next level of AM hurt our chances? TRF provided a new technique that will take an action and qi to use, and AM will probably provide a new technique which will require an action and qi to use. We may never use them, but at least those techniques are there for when we want to use them. The argument just seems weird to me. That having another option weakens us.
If you just don't want formations, then at least vote for the ASA plan. That plan actually has us getting an option that might help in the tournament rather than just doing nothing of value for the tournament 33% of the time. Or create another plan. Plan "Eye to the Future" just seems self-defeating and not something Ling Qi would actually do.
In that vein, I will be voting

Sure I can, help. I thought i was responding to a point you made but the whole reasoning is a bit confusing so maybe you can help me sort this out. here is what i thought you said:
I thought the first point you made was that deploying the horror costs us a turn in combat. I provided a canon example where a crow horror was deployed and it didnt take up a combat turn. There were no combat turns at all, the horror forms and attacks an illusion cast by sl after she and lq where spotted by the scouts. the shaman is actually a few hundred meters away at this point. This shows us that the horror, like most other equiptment can be used outside of combat and thus needs not take a combat turn if we deploy it early. this also means that we can use the qi to activate the horror out of combat, likely in the same way we can use qi to fly out of combat.
the second point, i dont recall if it was made by you or another thead member, was that the horror is qi inefficient because it would be taken out before it could use its arts since we know that the horror is able to be summoned out of combat we can use it as a buff bot, getting a discount on our first round of group buffs. In effect, the horror would have 6 virtual qi cards and no means of using arts beyong those 6 arts. it lacks versatility and adaptability but its cheaper and can be prepared before hand.
the third point and the most weird one (to me at least), is that you started arguing that the horror shouldnt be able to use its spine slots to cast spine/heart buff arts because the buffing other people aspect is related to the heart aspect. we never had this issue before so i dont quite get where its comming from. both in cultivating and in qi reductions we have seen, that the second an art qualifies for autosuccesses or for a qi reduction, these bonuses apply. why would the horror suddenly not be able to use them?
Lastly and despite of the canon example i have shown, i was asking yrsillar for a judgement because rules lawyering and arguing is pointless with a clear basis. i hope yrs will provide it soon.
As you can see, with the above points in mind, i thought that pointing out an instance where the horror was used out of combat, would address a lot of your points. if i got anything wrong please dont hesitate to tell me.

Yes, spend two actions trying to get something that has very low impact on tournament rather than spend two actions on preparing for next year is, I think, a bad idea. There comes a time when we can tell ourself "well, I am prepared for the upcoming test". Spending those two actions on formations is setting us back significantly in order to hope a first-level mid-yellow formation will provide key.
The argument the horror would hurt our chance in combat was built under the assumption it would be a 'normal' fight which begins in front of the opponent. There being an holodeck means it's much less likely though.
And, yes, having more options is sometimes bad, as it means sometimes using weak options. Having more options is not good when those options are tempting to use but in fact bad to use. We have seen that in the very last spar with Meizhen.

Well, first, I will preface this by saying I forgot that arena was a holodeck, which changes things.
Ah, your first example doesn't show the horror not taking up a turn in combat? that it took a turn in combat while the shaman was far doesn't mean it didn't take a turn, just that she shaman was able to make his formation much smarter than ours (we know his was much better than ours in many way).
We don't know the horror can be taken in the Arena as already deployed. Now, this doesn't matter as much considering that we can probably hide during the fight thanks to the holodeck nature and deploy it that way, but OTOH it also means we can prebuff anyway.
I also never argued that the horror shouldn't be able to use DWV, I argued that I dislike using it for the area aspects of DWV, given the horror is clearly meant to use spine techs, not spine 'arts'. It would almost certainly work, I just dislike it.
The thread's convinced me that both ASA and Han Jian deserve another shot.

if seen your post @Arkeus but im out shopping so i wont reply in details right now.
i did remember something else though.
If we make it into the inner sect we get access to inner sect arts. one of the most important ones for us is Argent Genesis, the cultivation art. Argent arts are really great and efficient, and the permanent benefits of Argent Soul were also cool. As we only have one year to learn and master the art i was planning to ditch epc as soon as we get in the sect and master Argent Genesis before switching back to EPC.
As successes in cultivation arts are lost when we swap it out, then to me, and everyone who wants to switch to argent genesis in the inner sect , cultivating it more is pointless. we are going to lose the progress if we switch.

We already have 44 successes in EPC. Now, maybe your plan is to immediately switch to Argent Genesis and ditch those EPC successes we already have, but I always assumed we were going to get EPC6 before Argent Genesis.
Still, what the hell leads people to be called "Weilu Conservatives" literally ten White generations after they were wiped out in that case? They shouldn't even qualify as a footnote in history at this point if that's the case.
Presumably their culture managed to become largely synonymous with the traditional culture of Emerald Sea as a whole.
You can probably make a good case for renaming them Emerald Sea Conservatives, but odds are, being a founding family, the Weilu make a good rallying point for Weilu Conservatives and noone on Shenhua's side actually likes the notion of identifying them with the province itself.

well, the reason we have so many successes in it in the first place is because we were fairly close to leveling it and had a good roll to complete it. this situation, getting close to level up and then having to invest and action to complete it, pumping more successes into the next level and leaving us right were we started.
Furthermore these 44 successes are less than 10 % of the required 500 for the level up, they are easy to recover now and will be even easier to recover once we have grown and mastered Argent Genesis. Lastly and the most important point, reaching EPC6 will cost us inner sect time. We already only have 12 months to master the art. the remaining 456 successes might very well cost us an entire month.

EPC6 will take us something like 3 weeks, maybe less if we train it now. In the scenario where we don't need AS equipped to train AG, we might actually be training AG in those same two weeks.
Mastering Argent Genesis in your scenario means, what? fully mastering it? That is not a scenario that can happen unless it ends at appraisal, as we'll get AG locked to foundation green before we get to foundation green, most likely... and at that point, it will actually not be any faster then to train EPC. After all, training EPC means getting another 25 dice to EPC. When we train Argent Genesis, we slow anything but base cultivation down. We lose 15 dice to Yin, 10 dice to moon, and significant dice to physical/spiritual.
Training EPC6 won't cost us inner sect time, training AG before getting EPC6 might.
EDIT: I can't math. If we do EPC this week, it will likely be 4 or so weeks. OTOH, it will probably be around 3/4 for AG first level too.

And, yes, having more options is sometimes bad, as it means sometimes using weak options. Having more options is not good when those options are tempting to use but in fact bad to use. We have seen that in the very last spar with Meizhen.
I mean, let's go through this because the argument presented here is very confusing.
First off, if the argument that the horror would hurt our chances in a fight is based on the assumption that it would be a "normal" fight, but if the existence of a hollow deck undercuts that assumption, then the likelihood that the horror would hurt our chances are reduced. If the entire argument against the Horror is undercut already, then why is it an argument anymore?
The next facet is that spending an action on EPC and spiritual doesn't actually significantly advance those interests. It's advancing those interests by an action, and since the format next quest will be completely different, it would be exceedingly difficult to accurately demonstrate that an action now will significantly advance our interests then. So I'm not entirely sure that the argument that doing anything outside of spiritual and EPC will significantly hold us back can be made. The action economy will be different, the tools we use to achieve our cultivation dreams will be different, and both EPC and Spiritual have a significant amount of progress before they advance.
So to me, it appears that it is a contest for doing something that may have an impact and doing something that has a negligible impact on our future cultivation speed. This isn't a contest between actions with vastly different impacts spread out at different times, it is a contest between choices with very little difference in impact between their respective roles spread out at different times. And in that frame, choosing the action with very little impact on the current hurdle is much better than choosing an action that has a very little impact on future actions.
Then there is the problem regarding whether the Horror will have a very low impact on the tournament. I don't think that the Horror's impact on the tournament is as clear-cut as other's may have it seem. For reference, here are the stats of the Horror.
The tiny scouts created by the Ossuary Scout Formation are but a small part of the whole, when the time for observation has passed, they can be gathered to fight on their masters behalf. The construct created by the activation of this formation has a cultivation level equivalent to the number of scouts used to create it divided by three. Eg. A Horror created from 15 scouts would have a cultivation level of 5. The constructs cultivation level cannot exceed it's creators.
The horror has a movement of 21 and an initiative of 15. It's base combat statistics are as follows.
Offensive Clashes: 15 dice, plus 3 for every cultivation level above 4
Defensive Clashes: 12 dice, plus 3 for every cultivation level above 4
Armor 2 Durability 5(increases to 3 and 8 at cultivation 7)
DV 4 Armor Piercing 2
Health 4+1 for every cultivation level above 4
No more than one horror may be commanded at a time, on creation, the horror may be assigned one arm based and one spine or leg based technique from the users roster, each of which it may use up to three times. Techniques must be two dots or below.
So, if we make it a Green level Horror, then it will be at cultivation level 7, meaning that
Offense would be at 24 dice base
Defense would be at 21 dice base.
Health would be at 7 boxes
Armor of 2 with durability at 8
With TRF and AC
Offense (physical melee) 27
Defense (physical) 25
Armor 4
And then should it be assigned Scalding Steam as it's arm technique, and it uses it, it's dice would be at 34 offense dice. For reference, the Shambler's defense was at 33. The Shambler would have a cultivation advantage, but only of +1 auto, which is easily overcome by the fact that our multi-attacker aspect will have already kicked in. So we are looking at a formation that can deal with another high-level competitor's spirit beast and reliably hit it.
This is including it's potential to have TRF's Deepwood Vitality or Ten Ring Defense.
Or, if we want to be particularly cheeky, we can put Spring's End Aria into it and have it do an automatic -4 to an opponent's spiritual defense before we pop a Hoarfrost's Caress.
The Horror has the potential to be a meaningful addition offense wise against anyone outside of the monsters, and with FVM debuffing an opponent's defense by a -16, the Horror could hit a person with 50 defense, which includes the monsters. The monsters could probably one shot it, but outside of them, I find the chances of it being one shotted to be low.
So, it would seem that the Horror, in the correct matchup, would have the capability to deal damage to a high-level competitor's spirit beasts, and in that same vein probably last a turn or two against those same spirit beasts.
So to me, it appears very plausible that it will have a good impact in the correct matchups, and so deeming the Horror "very low impact" is conclusory. Dealing damage to an opponent's spirit beast and providing support to Zhengui in an unexpected manner can have a very high impact.
To conclude, I neither agree with the premise that the Horror will provide a very low impact option nor agree with the premise that doing an action in EPC or Spiritual will significantly advance those options for future cultivation. Neither of those has been proven and while the Horror is at least arguable, I don't see a way to argue that EPC and Spiritual actions right now will significantly advance those interests.
It's not an argument? I already agreed that it's not an argument, what is your point?
The next facet is that spending an action on EPC and spiritual doesn't actually significantly advance those interests. It's advancing those interests by an action, and since the format next quest will be completely different, it would be exceedingly difficult to accurately demonstrate that an action now will significantly advance our interests then. Yrsillar has confirmed, many times, that the cultivation will stay the same.
So no, this won't change.
It will have a very significant impact on our cultivation speed, because getting EPC6 and Appraisal a week earlier is pretty damn big difference in how things work, and while the timetable will move faster it doesn't actually change the impact how fast we can get to appraisal to will have on everything.
So, if we make it a Green level Horror, then it will be at cultivation level 7, meaning that
Offense would be at 24 dice base
Defense would be at 21 dice base.
Health would be at 7 boxes
Armor of 2 with durability at 8

So we are looking at a formation that can deal with another high-level competitor's spirit beast and reliably hit it.
If you just don't want formations, then at least vote for the ASA plan. That plan actually has us getting an option that might help in the tournament rather than just doing nothing of value for the tournament 33% of the time.
Not really. Plan ASA get's the new Art but doesn't spend an action to train it, so it gives us nothing.

The point is that in the previous paragraph of your post and in the next paragraph you say that the Horror is a bad or weak option. Why? It's not an argument anymore. In the proper contexts, it can be a powerful tool especially if we have the time to prep and deploy it. So... the whole argument that was posted seems inconsistent.
I am aware that Yrs has said that cultivation, as in we will have exp to work towards regarding cultivation goals, will remain the same. How we work towards those goals has, to my recollection, never been confirmed. If the argument you are saying is that we will have what is happening this week but x4 for a month or x8 for 2 months and it will be that broken down... I'm going to have to disagree. It was pushing it when we did 2-week segments, and it will be completely broken if we do 4-week segments.
I will also point out, that in the span of this quest there have been at least 3 ways we have worked towards achieving cultivation, all of which have had problems in their implementation.
So no, I disagree with the belief that it will be fundamentally the same process by which we achieve exp for cultivation. I recall no instance where Yrs set down in stone which way it will be and I believe a total rehaul of the system in terms of how we achieve the exp for cultivation will occur.
[X] Heizui has, for all his ill temper, been a decent host. Thank him for the time you've spent in the Vale
[X] It's been nearly a year since you first met Meizhen, set aside an evening to spend with her as your closest friend.
