How reliable are matrix spells? Is there a chance of miscast?
We take the miscast risk when we load the matrix.
However, we're heading to dwarf lands, its not proven to be safe to use on a wizard, dwarfs won't accept it, and so basically the only foreseeable usage for it is probably give our wolf an on-demand darkness bomb(then use his scent and hearing to navigate out)

Weird how two of the wanderer votes aren't among the main vote batch in the vote tally.

It's actually 37 votes for wanderer.

The same is also true for some Empire rep votes. And I think a few Grey College votes though those aren't as impactful, given the clear win the Grey College vote will have.

The biggest advantage of the of the Matrix is that it allows us to cast in a controlled environment without battlefield stress. Also I think it would be a better idea to load our wolf with a Terror Bomb.

Call me a pessimist, but I worry that any gribblies nasty enough to require the dead man's switch from Regrowth will also be nasty enough to inflict Rekill.

[X] As a wanderer, not entirely sure what you seek.
[X] As a representative of the Grey Order, here to lend a hand where it can be of most use.
[X] Regrowth - Ghyran, instantly restores someone to full health from any state up to and including 'recently dead'. -9 College Favours

You're a pessimist. This is warhammer. Nothing ever goes wrong in Warhammer!

It was mentioned eirler, but I have no idea on how feasible it is, can a collar (or barding) on wolf be enchanted with shadow armour, or would he need all-over armour?

I'm kind of hopeful that whoever kills us, might have other things to worry about than our cooling corpse. Like an army of dwarves.

Of course, that won't be true if we get killed being sneaky.

[X] Boon of Hysh - Hysh, instantly heals all wounds, poisons and disease. -5 College Favours.

Saving favors has it's dangers I'm perfectly aware, but I don't believe in overkill.

Looks like the ring of regeneration* is winning by about 30.

*not a ring please - we don't want it on the wrong side of the cut when we lose our fingers!

Well hopefully we'll meet some interesting adventurers with the throng. I assume that Anton's gift of crossbows will go to umgi tag alongs rather than dawi.

Night after night passes in meditation with the purring of cats and the rising mist for company. You're not sure if you're paying tribute to your God or apologizing to Wolf's departed spirit or demanding answers or just keeping the cats company, but each night you're up there until you stagger back down into your bedroom to sleep into the early afternoon, eating into the time you had put aside for trying to build upon the lessons you learned in the Purge and the Sieges. Finally, as the date of your departure rapidly approaches, one night you hear a scratching on the door to the alley and you exhale a breath and search around for the key and open it, and you're only slightly surprised to see a scruffy wolf pup looking up at you.

"Fine," you say to it. "But you better be house-trained."

Yessssss!

EDIT:

You mean Ulric?

Might be worth looking into, yes, he's from Ranald, but he IS a wolf....

If it were any other god, this would be a grave insult.
Ranald'll find it so funny that every coinflip in the empire will land on edge for a month.

I've come up with a possible weapon we can use during the coming battles. The concept is using Mathilde's Matrix to place Pall of Darkness into an animal which is placed in a cage. The cage can then be thrown into a group of enemies to put then into a field of bewildering impenetrable darkness. I can see it being very effectively used to counter charges, quite possibly even causing a charge to completely fail and only cause casualties on the enemy side.

Of course there are a number of potential problems.

1. It might not even work, Pall of Darkness is a new spell for Mathilde and I don't think she's ever used it for a matrix. The result might cause the target animal to explode and successfully release the spell or to release the spell and not explode (good results), or it might result in complete failure such as the darkness remaining only inside the animal and thus being pointless (who cares if an animals insides are dark).

2. The dwarfs tend not to think much of human magic so I very much doubt the dwarfs would want to be given an animal that explodes into a cloud of impenetrable darkness that Mathilde cooked up over an hour or so.

Admittedly the dwarf's acceptance of human magic makes giving this to the dwarfs worse that pointless (it would probably antagonize them) but there are almost certainly at least some human auxiliaries around and they might be far more accepting, especially if this Darkness grenade works as well as I expect it might to counter charges. Considering that any humans here are going to be relatively soft and desirable targets compared to the dwarf forces we might pick up some decent customers and popularity if this concept works out well.

Regardless it only takes about an hour to test so it's something we should give a shot at some point to see if it has potential.

Spell binding matrix takes at least an hour to set up each time, so it's not practical to do anything involving large numbers of people.

Spell binding matrix only allows spells that target someone other than the wizard. Most of the neat wizard spells, like Skywalk and Invisibility, are self-only.

Spell binding matrix targets the person it's bound into when activated. So it shouldn't be used for any hostile spell like Magic Dart or Mindhole.

Spell binding matrix is triggered inside the person it's bound into. So it really shouldn't be used for Shadowsteed.

Given how much dwarves use guns, I don't think they'd enjoy random blind spots anyway.

Back when I still played Nethack, this is exactly why the Amulet of Life Saving would be the last thing I wished for.

And the benefit of being able to resurrect just-gibbed dwarves is tempered by the probability that voters will want to preserve their safety blanket.
