This is insane, you are arguing that make raising people from the dead might be a bit of a bother.

We could change the course of the entire war with this ability. We can change the course of the entire quest with this item.

It's a renewable resurrection item. One we can set up to resurrect ourselves.

How can you not see the value in that.

In comparison to a renewable full heal item for almost half the cost. The window between being un-savable with HoH and being un-savable with regrowth is too small for 4 more favors worth of cost.

And after some thought, you put your usual grey hat you've been wearing since you were an apprentice on your desk, and put Abelhelm's leather hat atop your head.
I liked our old hat.

Combo this with Dread Aspect and Crown of Fire, and we're basically one of the most dangerous morale weapons Order's got.

"DID YOU REALLY BELIEVE IT WOULD BE THIS EASY!?"

I'm pretty sure some of them would literally die from fright.

[] As a chronicler, here to record events.

Please note that it would have much different meaning for Dwarf than for human. It is a duty and a honor bound duty. It would be expected of Mathilde to describe things in details, to get names, to include honourable deaths and acts of courage.

Anything less would be shrinking one's duty.

Let's not chain Mathilde to something she have no desire to do.

The four more favors is for having to be killed twice in the same go in order for it to stick.

Like, a natural one at a bad time can't gank us by itself anymore. Four favors is a small price to pay.

[X] Nothing further was commissioned.

As people have mentioned. When you get the opportunity to savescum, you take it.

Just means we need to get good enough to carry the weight.

Strictly speaking though, this is 100% BoneyM shaking up canon. Realistically speaking, "The Empress is part of a secret society that's bent on subverting major institutions of the Empire and beyond" has... Uh, zero canon backing whatsoever, and the very idea of them getting that level of influence in the Grey Order in the first place when they're so infamously closed off is a change.

So even if this is the case, the butterflies started flapping their wings long before the game started, this was just the logical final result of it.
It is entirely appropriate for a setting where the apocalypse is constantly delayed by the sacrifice of heroes, and average people alike all to keep the hope for a better tomorrow alive just a little bit longer.
Also means we need to find a way of Immortality that doesn't involved selling our soul so we can be around to help during the End Times.
Uh given how core change are to the WoM if you want intentional immortality Necromancy, and Chamon are the only guaranteed* ways whereas the other 7 Winds it is mostly a matter of having the courage to push your limits enough that doing so alters your soul, enough luck that the alteration are neither chaotic, nor fatal, and avoiding death from the numerous unnatural causes.

*The former is based off a book of a litch, and the latter is pretty much alchemy with a few additions, but how it works is up to our QM I suppose.

I kinda do agree with @Omegahugger that it feels like a big part of Mathilde's motivations is being penitent and wanting to repay the Dawi for helping her during the siege (Though since BoneyM said how he didn't include this option becuase it would be auto-voted, I guess it is gonna be part of the narrative already)

The empire motivation feels pretty hollow by contrast though, given the disdain that Mathilde felt towards the squabbles of the Elector Counts and how they failed to help Abelhelm Stirland when it needed them, and how it resurfaces again when the Dawi called for aid.

Do we really want to become a chronicler? Saying this to the people who keep literal books about grudges probably means that we're going to actually have to constantly write down everything that happens, lest we become an oathbreaker.

I'm fine with Mathilde writing things down as she pleases when there's time, but not as a duty.

So @BoneyM might I the exact benefits of our new wolf familiar?

Also I hope that we get the opportunity to mingle with the various mercenaries and fame seekers.

I agree with those saying to come as ourselves. Simply being there to

The resurrection item isn't that great though due to it's limitations. Most people who died during campaigns do so from wounds and disease, with only a minority being killed in the middle of melee because if you're wounded, you're pulled back through the line instead of being forced to fight, as unsurprisingly that's awful for moral. Then if that wound is bad enough you'll die, but it's not an instant thing and can be prolonged quite a bit if you're willing to expend the effort and not just say "triage says that wound is going to kill them, help someone else instead" if you know healing is available. With Dwarves this is even more the case. So really Hysh does most of what regrowth could have done, with a further benefit of it specifically healing poisons and disease.

So resurrection with the limitation of within a few minutes has limited utility. And if we're in a situation when we can die easily, the correct thing would be to just run away and with shadowsteed and stealth magic we should be very good at that. Staying and dying, then having the resurrection artifact proc, likely just means you're in the same place as you just died. With presumably the things that killed you on hand to kill you again.

You, sir, have just earned my vote.

Well, that and that little tidbit about regrowing limbs. Limbs are important.
