The ability to regrow limbs in and out of combat sounds pretty darn good on its own, too.

The difference between an injury and a casualty.

This is the only part of the vote I care about tbh.

We made out like a bandit.

He's greatly relieved when you tell him you had dwarven help when setting up the factory.
Git is lucky we don't declare grudges over insults like that.

But it is fantastically profitable, especially multiplied by the growing stockpile back in Wurtbad.
Yay, we are rich again!
Wait…

This on top of the civil war brewing between Middenland and Norrland; these are dark times.
Good thing we are taking a holiday to the Badlands. Hopefully the home front will have settled by the time we return.

Good, he replies, because you won't need it.
Urge to laugh maniacally… rising.

but you've experienced greatness. You've felt the presence of Gods, cast spells that shaped entire battlefields, lead armies into battle. You've snatched the tools of the enemy from their hands and reshaped them into weapons for the righteous.
Huh. I guess we have had a surprisingly epic adventure for someone who barely qualified as a hero character at the start.

you're only slightly surprised to see a scruffy wolf pup looking up at you.
Ranald isn't big on subtlety is he?

"We did it," you say. "We changed the world we live in."
A worthy send-off.

Poor Anton. The cinnamon roll is too pure for this gritty setting.
We should get him a big house in Tilea, with a complimentary Runefang.

Item:
[X] Boon of Hysh - Hysh, instantly heals all wounds (but doesn't regrow anything missing), and cures any poisons and disease. -5 College Favours.
Straightforward. Effective. Leaves us with favors to spend on college classes and future requisitions and stuff.
[X] Regrowth - Ghyran, instantly restores someone to full health from any state up to and including 'recently dead'. -9 College Favours
Expensive, both in absolute cost and because it would leave us with zero favors (9 of 10 would have been easier to swallow), but awesome enough that I can support it.

Motivations:
[X] As a wanderer, not entirely sure what you seek.
Mathilde's motivation here appears to be "help dorfs", not seeking anything in particular. (Also I voted for Zhufbar both times.)
[X] As a representative of the Grey Order, here to lend a hand where it can be of most use.
Shadowmancers represent!
[X] As a chronicler, here to record events.
Surely someone here has heard of the elfdragon book. And the dwarves will probably be sensible about not expecting dwarf levels of grudgetracking from a manling.
[X] As a researcher, here to investigate any strange and interesting phenomena that can be found.
We told the College we were willing to perform thaumaturgical R&D.

[:V] As an advisor, hoping to be a part of the council of the King when he takes his throne.
On the one hand, Mathilde has a great track record of competence! She's come a long way from the early days of 'derpwizard'. Now it's more like 'gunwizard'. Soon to become 'cannonwizard' perhaps. Aim for the stars!
On the other hand, dwarfs. Asking dwarfs to put manlings in a high position when there's century-old dwarfs almost certainly better at everything. And the manling uses magic to boot.

Reasoning behind not supporting the various other options:
[]Adventurer: Lots of them already, get in line. Also Grey Order shouldn't be in it for the glory.
[]Mercenary: Even more of them already, get in line.
[]Warrior: ^
[]Empire representative: No. Just no. The Empire did not send us and already dishonored the alliance, the dorfs are irked at the empire, and one wizard's worth of pseudo-alliance-honoring is not going to impress anyone. We'll just look cheap.
[]Magic representative: Could be swayed to support it, but I think Grey Order trumps this.

I have been persuaded to switch off chronicler by the reasonable point that, as said, it's a formal profession for dwarves.

Bound Familiars

When a suitable animal is found, binding is a gradual process that requires the Wizard to remain in close proximity to the would-be familiar for a prolonged period, spending no more than an hour or two per day away from it. The binding process can be as quick as a few days or as long as several months. When bound, familiars tend to develop a distinct personality and increase massively in intelligence until they approach that of a human. They also can gain strength and durability beyond that of a normal example of their species. Some develop sharper senses, the ability to speak in Lingua Praestantia or to read and write, and often develop deep interests in subjects ranging from the everyday to the esoteric.

Beyond this, there are a range of Powers that familiars can develop; one will appear as the bond is formed and others can be developed over time.

Aethyric Reservoir: The Familiar can absorb a spell targeted at itself or its master, holding it for up to several days and disgorging at will at a new target.
Link of Psyche: The Familiar and the Master have their minds linked, giving them the ability to communicate without words and increasing the cognitive ability and willpower of both as long as they are both conscious.
Lucky Charm: The Familiar and Master both tend to be more fortunate.
Magic Focus: Spells can be amplified through the Familiar, doubling one of its quantitative effects - range, duration, area of effect, and so on.
Magic Power: As long as the Familiar lives, the Master is more magically puissant.
Master's Touch: Spells can be cast through the Familiar - touch spells can target what the familiar is touching, the familiar's eyesight can be used to target spells, and so on.
Master's Voice: The Master can speak through the Familiar's mouth, both as a means of communicating and to cast spells if the Master is somehow prevented from speaking.
Voice of Reason: The Master becomes less prone to miscasting.

I'm not really too confident about that. They might not expect us to only be a chronicler, but I think it's likely that they will expect us to at least perform it as a full time job. Failure to perform up to their low(very high for humans) standards is probably going to lead to disappointment.

Man, getting Voice of Reason or Lucky Charm would both be so in theme, especially with Ranald cooking the books.

Hm. I wonder if we can get a Dispell Scroll? Admittedly i am not quite up to date on Warhammer Tabletop rules, but back when i used to play they were common as chips, and the ability to instantly dispell any one Spell can come in ridiculously handy, especially when you are going up against Skaven. Fucking 13th needs to be dispelled at all cost if they get it off.

But the real jewel of your learning comes when Magister Patriarch Algard passes you in a corridor, turns back, and asks you if you've learned Shadow of Death. "No," you say. Good, he replies, because you won't need it.
:) Back during the Purge, I wanted to write in that we should grab some Wight robes while we had the chance.

(It's a material components that makes Dread Aspect easier to cast in WHFRPG)

One favour per two.

huh. You know, if we follow the convention from Vermintide of nicknaming wizards after their element, then Mathilde will become... Mhornin. Yes, the shadow wizard will be named Morning. or... Mourning, now that I think of it. Aww.

This is insane, you are arguing that make raising people from the dead might be a bit of a bother.

We could change the course of the entire war with this ability. We can change the course of the entire quest with this item.

It's a renewable resurrection item. One we can set up to resurrect ourselves.

How can you not see the value in that.

I'm rather astonished that we can even get such an item. Whatever the limitations of the recharge, it can be recharged. Normally you'd expect this kind of thing to be a one-use, super rare item with only a few in existence, and we can just ask to have one made just for us specifically. If it really works like it says on the tin, then there's no better choice on which to splurge all our college favors.

[X] As a representative of the Empire, honouring the ancient alliance between Man and Dwarf.

I think being a human chronicler might help bring interest and support to the campaign, and a human chronicler can tell the tale to humans in ways a Dwarf one can't. Plus, there's just something cool about doing this again.

Obviously, they've noticed that we already have the means to learn how to repeatedly raise people from the dead.

Admittedly, I thought there was more resistance to that idea, but who am I to complain?

A normal wolf with the soul of a Priest of Ranald, though...
... If Wolf's grand reward in the afterlife is simply getting reincarnated as an actual wolf, using necromancy to chain his soul to the mortal world might genuinely be preferable. At least he'd avoid the fleas that way.

The only way I could see becoming our pet be a worthy reward is if Wolf held an age-long crush on Mathilde and this was Ranald's way of letting him be near her again.

Yeeeeeeeees.

I expect the dwarves will almost certainly have their own chroniclers, and the dwarven chroniclers will almost certainly not imagine that the task could ever be handed off to a human. Dwarfs do the proper writing, and think it's cute that the humans want to write about it too. Maybe with twenty years of practice Mathilde's writings will even be of interest to someone other than humans. ;)

I'm not sure it would actually be made for us; it might be very rare pre-existing and we're calling in a lot of favors to get one lent out to us.

Because look at what 9 favors is: inventing a new kind of spell construct adopted by multiple colleges was worth 3. Instantly winning the graduation duel against a wizard twenty years our senior, looking like a precocious rising star of the first order, was worth 2. 9 favors is calling in every scrap of favor, every hope and promise that Mathilde will turn out to be something wonderful, and she had better not disappoint.
