I expect the preliminary to be seeded, by cultivation if nothing else. That would even be entirely fair and impartial!

Bai and Sun or Sun and Cai probably would have both of them being the last standing, simply because they know better than to not 'respect' the other in public, especially considering Shenhua, Sun Shao and Suzhen Bai might be in the audience.
For the same reason, having Sun/Bai/CRX in the same arena is a nonstarter, as it means Sun Liling will lose... and Sun Shao would have something to say about that.

I don't quite get what you mean by this. 'Respect' how? Like, actually refrain from attacking each other when they're explicitly in the same arena to be the last ones standing? Like, you think their respective parents are going to be upset at their kids for actually attacking the strongest enemy in the ring? I honestly expect the parents to be more angry at the Sect for putting the kids together in the ring so early in the first place.

This, remember the tournament this year is very political, with 3 ducal houses participating and at the very least Sun's grandfather will be observing.
I find it very unlikely that the brackets will be left to random chance, in fact the most likely out come is after the group stage is that Bai and Sun will get an easy fight in the first round so they are in the top eight and relatively fresh to face each other in the second individual round.

@Erebeal I don't agree with your idea that Xiulan's desperately needs every single instance of the white room. The fact that she has actively started breakthrough attempts means she is very likely to have succeeded by the tournament if she devotes herself to it (rather than being halfhearted in action allocation like Ling Qi), especially if we negotiate/allow her vale access as some have suggested.
By contrast this is our best, and probably last opportunity to give Su Ling access to the white room. Aside from the fact that people will continue to argue for giving it to Xiulan's even after she breaks through taking Su Ling whilst giving her lessons on Argent current means she is more likely to accept as part of the lessons and not think of this as mere charity. Ling Qi does like Su Ling and worry about her, and even getting a single week in the White room could give her a big leg up. Seeing the resources of higher level cultivatiors may also spur her into trying for the sect seriously next year to give her a chance of getting rid of her mother someday.
Xiulan can afford a week. Heck if we really have to we can ask Meizhen to take her in her slot this week as they get along well enough.
I just really want to give Su Ling at least one shot at this.

It would just be charity though, and I don't think Su Ling would not realize that. We already discussed a price after all, suddenly tossing an incredibly useful resource on top of the deal for no reason isn't exactly subtle about being a freebie.

Fair tournament and completely random tournament aren't the same thing.
Real tournaments will rank contestants first, and or put them in buckets, and then pull names out of different hats.

Right so what I mean is that I expect them to stay fairly close to how they claim to seed people. If they say that it's random, then I would expect only limited meddling, like ensuring Cai, Meizhen, and Sun Liling are in different prelims but having it be actually random (meaning, you know, whatever equivalent of slips of paper in a hat actually works with godlike cultivators).
It's certainly possible that they openly use some other method to seed it, though, or that they just don't make any claims about how it's seeded. I should've been explicit before, but I was assuming that they claim it's seeded randomly.
I'll switch to open door mission in the hope it gets support.

I'm starting to get really tired of the whole 'Xiulan is doomed if she has so much as a second outside of the White room' doomsaying that comes up when we have these votes. Xiulan was confident she'd get to green this year long before the white room existed (her interlude) and her arts specialise in punching up. Given Han Jian intends to throw the tournament for her she's in a great position.
I'm more and more tempted to talk to Meizhen about taking Xiulan in her slot, as they get along, so we can provide our other friends some chances. Might make a good trade for the information about the vale.
Training at a super cultivation site as part of a lesson you paid for from someone who's rich is easy to justify to herself. Just randomly getting it isn't. It's why I'm so pissed off that we're giving up what is possibly our best opportunity to give it to Su Lingbecause poor Xiulan clearly has no shot on her own.

It doesn't matter if Ling Qi thinks it's charity! We give far more to other friends (see Xiulan, literally every week) for nothing. The important thing is to give Su Ling a leg up in a way that doesn't trigger her pride issues. Even if it's just a convenient explanation that she can use to make herself feel emotionally that she's not really in our debt that's important.

I think a more relevant breakdown is that CRX will offer material stuff and demand time, while Sect will give time but little else with it.
Imo the question is, are rare pills that save turns (or other material equivalent) worth the obligatory major actions CRX will impose ?
Sect is more self made man. You get the time to do whatever you want, but you don't really get significant support.
Please update them mid week 42 so we can think of them before the voting is avaliable

I wonder, considering Mom!Qi should arrive next week, is it possible to add a line to CRX's minor to make sure it happens after we talked to mom ? or at least towards the end of the week so we have a chance to actually talk to mom before it.
Waiting a week for it is obviously not going to happen considering the winning plans, but it would still be very interesting to get her opinion first.
Something like:
