When it comes to the Greenland base, and the ASAT system generally, right now a warlord could in theory send an all in death or glory ride at the Greenland base. It would be a death or glory operation, but is potentially successful. The orbital station is harder. Something like a laser strike, advanced penetration aid assisted missile barrages, Sprint Kessler Devices, or potentially xenotech based strikes are all possible, but not something that any of the warlords can manage at this time on top of the needs of the Greenland operation.
Someone like Kane, Marcion, Gideon, or similar could, theoretically pull it off. However, it is not a sure thing, and the system as a whole is much less vulnerable than it was in 2047. However it is still not invulnerable, and with sufficient effort, or the right tactics, it can be defeated. Even a second or third station would not entirely preempt this, however each does make the entire system a much larger pain to deal with from the perspective of even a fully prepared Brotherhood of NOD.

If the current ASAT level is secure enough for the next few years, then maybe we should seek to take advantage of it for now and build something that we know will be a large advantage for the military. Worst case, the OSRCT can deploy to defend against an attack on the Greenland base, and the station itself is designed to rapidly launch its regiment so could be evacuated very quickly.

I like this idea. I assume you are thinking of just putting a single Fusion Dice on the project each turn until it is done?

I don't mind. Despite the large pushback, I was never advocating we rush ASAT. As long as we get it done in the next 2 years (before end of plan) It'll be fine. As long as everyone understands that the more we invest in space, the better the trade looks for NOD to make a big move.

I was originally thinking 1 die every other turn for ASAT (assuming we'd find stuff we prioritized more heavily in between) which would take 6 or 7 quarters anyway. Not a big difference if you we just do 3-4 quarters of 1 die in 3 or 4 quarters. Either way it's done in 2 years.

I have no objections to OSRCT.
As long as we get back to putting more dice on deployment than we are on development.

I assume a commando team on a suicide mission to upload a virus into the ASAT could keep it disabled for long enough to hit the Philadelphia with another missile? They don't have to destroy it just stop it from working temporarily.
OSRCT seems like a very good idea. When NOD decides to attack it would be extremely helpful bonus. By the very nature of NOD we wont know when and where they will attack until they do so having reinforcements in a unprepared zone would be great.

Cyber attacks are way, way harder then media makes them look, especialy against well protected network, like ASAT is likely to be.

They just have to overwhelm the system for a short period of time though right? Kind of like a massive DDOS attack. Plus if they can infiltrate the facility then that makes it easier. NOD is well known for getting into places that they shouldn't be in.

Short version, from an IT guy? No. Outside cyberattacks are not going to be effective.

And NOD is good at infiltration, but InOps is just about as good at keeping NOD out of secure areas - and the ASAT control facilities would be near the top of the list.

NOD also managed to infiltrate the ASAT before the third war assuming it was defended to roughly the same degree as our current one. I apologize for misunderstanding cyber-warfare though, I have very little understanding of it other than basic things.

Any base running anything that needs to be secured has 2 separate computer networks one for email/internet browsing and organizing meetings and a second one that runs the hardware that needs to be secured.
The old base was in a major blue zone where there was enough civilian travel to hide the attack team the new one is in Greenland and if you are not working there you are probably not allowed to come within a 100 miles from that base.

The current one is better-defended.
And while yes, NOD could probably infiltrate the ASAT system, it would require deep-cover agents and a similar effort to the MASTERSTROKE effort that began TibWar 3.

Yes, it's worth upgrading the ASAT system, not least because getting to ASAT 4 will probably give it more functionality, and I think I remember hearing about tactical ion cannons (and possibly other developments) resulting from that. But there is very little danger of a serious attack on the ASAT network or our space assets, because of how much resources it would require to get any result.
 
Basically at the moment our ASAT network is adequate to prevent shenanigans from someone lobbing an ICBM at us or something. I also would not rely on it for the 4th Tiberium war.

Likely impossible simply because GDI hopefully understands what a fucking airgap is. Only way to hack in would having to physically be in the DC or somehow have everything you need to just hijack the orbital assets directly by faking the signal.
 
Not to say that we shouldn't invest in the ASAT network, but I should point out that all the work done to prevent an attack from the ground would be rather pointless against an attack from space. Which is a distinct possibility, even if it's only in the long term.

Nod is unlikely to apply the exact same trick again, since they know GDI will be on guard for such a thing. So it wouldn't be wise to tunnel vision on one particular threat at the expense of other areas.
