Does anyone here play from the dephts? I am currently very tempted to build a Governor-Cruiser there when I have time again in September. Rail guns, Missiles and Laser Defenses are all weapon and defense options in the game(And bots model is a nice visual aid). Would be funny if we were able to recreate the GDI Navy and Airforce there.

For my next trick I am be told the Island is a shorter, thiccer version of the Lake and spend a few minutes putting in the well deck for amphibious craft to leave our shortstack, much to my dissapointment. 😭

But yeah, completely unsurprised that the amphib is basically the same as the carrier but with well deck. After all, I kept using the Wasp/America as a basis when talking about the potential abilities of a 50k ton escort carrier. I would have complaints about flight deck space loss from weapon emplacements slapped on it, but with everything being VTOL, that's probably not so much an issue (except in the "less deck park space," but that might not be a thing anymore in this era, even during flight ops).

It is basically not a thing anymore. Mostly because there is Tib in seawater, and getting bits of cancer rock in your plane makes it no longer work at all.

Then is anything even taking off from a runway along the deck of the carrier/amphib? If not, I could see that imposing some pretty radical changes on the way the ships are designed, to the point where there's not much incentive for them to even look like 20th century aircraft carriers. Because 20th century aircraft carriers are designed heavily around the constraint "we need to put a runway on a bote," and everything else follows from that constraint.

With that said, it should be noted that making a warship "shorter, thiccer" means some really significant changes to every relevant part of the engineering. This is not a trivial modification.
As I understand it, both Lake and Island-classes are designed for VTOL operation standard, with STOL (Firehawks) as something that is still possible. Future carriers might look rather different, but I don't think we're there yet.
And yes, making a shorter, thiccer warship is a nontrivial engineering challenge. But just rendering the outside in a modeling program allows one to ignore most of those petty details.

Though I'm pretty sure our light carriers (the recently designed ones) and the amphibs aren't expected to be able to launch Firehawks.
(Also, the reason I call them 'light carriers' is because back in the day, we were fairly explicitly choosing whether to build "escort carriers" with tiny wings of entirely crewed aircraft or much larger "light carriers" with drone-supported wings. The name difference... well, I forget where it came from, but that was the context.)

They are not expected to launch firehawks under standard operations. If need be however they can certainly operate Firehawks.

There may be multiple classes based off multiple somewhat different merchantman designs or with somewhat different priorities, seeing as how they are to some extent an ad hoc modification of existing ships, done hastily with whatever tools and equipment were available.
