Again, the big problem is what happens if this fleet is attacked en route, because presumably the fusion monitors will be able to defend themselves while the gravitic tugs will struggle to do so.
They will, and they will, that's the downside.

I still think it's the best we're gonna get over the next Four Year Plan, if we want interplanetary power projection in that timeframe. The alternatives are that we make a G-Drive that is capable of combat manuavers, or a hybrid fusion/G-drive ship.

A stray thought -- the Scrin in the "Watchers in the Dark" seemed oddly well informed about Earth events. Possibilities are:

1) They left a stealthed ship or probe behind somewhere in the solar system, to watch events.

2) They have a network of human agents, either mind controlled or simply bribed, who send back regular reports to their alien masters.

Drone controll relay sounds juicy, especially with tiberium vein mining, since making humans stay safe under there is one of the primary concerns

Tiberium Spread change, from:
21.29 Blue Zone
2.16 Green Zone
22.82 Yellow Zone (98 Points of Abatement)
53.73 Red Zone (70 Points of Abatement)

to:
21.76 Blue Zone
1.69 Green Zone
23.31 Yellow Zone (98 Points of Abatement)
53.24 Red Zone (70 Points of Abatement)

3) They have access to our global communication system and have broken both our military and civilian encryption and simply read everything we decide and what happens on earth.
Much easier than infiltration or agent activity.
Especially when you consider that an infiltration team has been requested but not yet approved.

Even the codes could prove useful given actual Scrin operating. Also wonder if we will get a reduced time for Advanced Hardlight since we researched and did a dev project for basic hardlight.

We did get the Combat Drones tech from Nod, which was already supposed to be a pretty decent boost to our VI systems. It'll be interesting to see how it pairs with the Drone Control Relay. They seem to approach the problem from opposite ends.

Nice.

Gravitic Telescopes would've been nice--it would've invalidated a lot of the space stealth strategies G-drive brings to the table. Transceiver Codes is almost better--now we can actually listen in.

4) They have decent telescopes.

The Inhibitor network is basically a giant radio beacon shouting 'Sit down! Bad Dog!' over and over and it's not like we're trying hard to hide our orbital infrastructure in general. And they can observe the surface spread of Tiberium and estimate from that and their own measurements while they were on Earth.

The only wrinkle in this theory is how Overseer expects Observer to find Kane without putting boots on the ground. Everything else they discuss are things that can be observed telescopically.

@BOTcommander , you had the Observer report that after liquid tiberium hits lava and starts going 'kaboom' on a planetary scale in "a few hundred cycles," the Earth will be "inhabitable."

Was that a typo, or is that the Visitor definition of "inhabitable?" With them, I'm never sure... :p
I assum even for the Scrin there is a difference between "Can vibe here" and "Can vibe here only with protective equipment and dont think about living here long term".

Okay, my thoughts on the tech that nobody asked me for.

Scrin transceivers- Serendipitous considering our discovery of a Scrin ship lurking out there, I mean it really couldn't have come at a better time. We might be able to just sneak up on them and board them if we're lucky

Drone control relay - hey, remember all the complaints about controlling drones? It's easier now, you basically point them at a target. Added bonus, they don't fly like shit any more. I think we're winning the air war guys

Advanced Hardlight- we get star trek holodecks now. This is a project where we put dice in and the consumer goods come flooding out. Yes please

Overall, a very nice result

We also need to consider the industrial application of the drone relays. Leaving aside the obvious application of making the factories basically run themselves, we can also drastically reduce the number of people needed for our harvesting ops

Construction drones in space. Mining drones in space

I can't stress how much this perfectly synergises with the tech we already have. Wingman drones and the ground drones so we can build complex drones, drone relays to manage them, our AI tech probably helps make the drones/controllers a little smarter even without making them full blown AI, they could be powered by microfusion (maybe, if necessary) and the software can run off iso chips

65: Drone Control Relay
can these be used for construction work ? , like a swarm of varied construction drones from giant earth movers like bulldozer and dozer drones , utility machines like like heavy truck and cement mixing drones to little R2D2 like drones for installing wires , laying floors , riveting and welding things , all connected to the control relay were the operator inputs the location of the depots filled with the construction material they will use and the plans for the building they will build , this could massively reduce how many points it takes to build something like arcologies as drones don't get tired , don't sleep , don't stop working for anything other than recharge and maintenance

Why does everyone default to holodecks and control panels whenever we get fine control telekinesis?

I want my gravity gun, damnit!
Because I believe the underlying tech is "rapidly reconfigurable forcefields".
But is likely also will give GDI holographic decoys. Despite NOD calling out us as cheaters for stealing their trick.
Also, fully-holographic operating theaters, which will do nice things for "not having to scrub up".
Other possible uses, depending on how STU-intensive it is:
-Construction: projecting braces that can just vanish, or projecting a mold in situ. Or, rescue ops.
-Handling Tiberium and other hazardous materials.
-In-field camouflage

Gravity gun is in the tech list, but this is not it.
*glowers*

*zips own mouth shut*

Anywho. Evolving the G-tug/monitor further, we could have a G-drive ship with an axial ion cannon, and then fusion parasite craft to extend the point defense envelope outwards and keep enemy ships from closing with the mothership.

Basically the Battlestar concept. Fighters to kill fighters and missiles while the Battlestar does the actual ship-chopping.

The problem being that, at least as far as I can recall, the G-drive exists as pods around the outside of the craft, which makes them difficult to armor.
