As for the messages all over GDI online? "WE LIKE THE SNACK."
If this ends up canon... Well, I guess Fungus Bars aren't going to remain 'that one untouched ration' for much longer...

And I can absolutely see this sort of thing happening, with it being spotted but not tackled in favour of higher priority issues during a crisis such as a major global war which means there's very little slack for 'minor issues' to be fixed in. Only to then naturally hit critical mass/see the weak point revealed and just smash through everything as control systems fail. It's only (sadly) human.

I don't think it will be canon but I will be pleased if it is. Or even semi-canon with some folks trying it with naught but failure to show for it.

I'm on a docu-comedy binge for movies and some documentaries on economics and financial shenanigans.

Regardless it was made as a silly joke when a stray thought took root. Glad to see it's been noticed and been enjoyed.

I wonder if there are actually fungus bar connoisseurs. That talk about how this batch from this one location is the best, or how different types of fungus pair better with different drinks and sides.

Sorry the update is being slow. This is another long one with a fair number of moving parts. I am currently a bit short of 10k words, but unfortunately none of the sections are ready to go out yet. I will be breaking up the update into sections again.

Also, @Vocalend has begun writing a new quest here that is cool and you should go check it out.

Actually, for GDI 'somebody is fucking with the rationing system' is a pretty big deal. Not to say they would immediately hammer it down, but you can bet there'll be a response to abuses. Especially the egregious ones.

Pretty good as long as you don't ask about where the meat comes from.

It coming from cattle is rather the point of calling it beef.

Yeah, as much as we may want to meme about the similarities to the $GME stock scenario, the issue here is that the system is vital to the survival of a very large percentage of the GDI population. Threatening the system means threatening the survival of that section of the population. As of right now, it's not quite at the level of severe disruptions to the system but the system will have to adapt.

At least we have an idea on how to do refugee outreach now. Fungus Bar bombers anyone?

Honestly, I'm not sure to what extent this even is fucking up the rationing system; the reason it's even possible for private traders to stockpile fungus bars or effectively trade in fungus bar futures by arranging for future orders is because nobody's eating the damn things.

Look, if you just mush it up and put some sauce from flavor packet type #82 on it, it doesn't even make you gag!

Just wait until the Food supply craters from all the refugees needing food as well and we go back to an all food included rationing system in the background and all these stockpiled fungus bars get sold on the black market.

I know we're loath to spend dice but like if it becomes an issue? We could wreck this with spending in agriculture. Like crater these peoples' supply with mass production. It's only an issue due to no one wanting the things anyway.

Example of something that doesn't even cost power.
[ ] Blue Zone Aquaponics Bays (Phase 2)
While the refugee swarm has not yet arrived to GDI's borders, it is only a matter of time, and vast aquaponics arrays are one of the keystone solutions to expected rises in demand.

That's what you think. Next thing you know, fungus bars are cryptocurrency and ruining the environment.
Please stop that. Cryptocurrency, like this quest thread writ large, consumes electricity for people's amusement and it is a gross prejudice to single out a subset of consumers to blame for the faults of a subset of producers. Environmental complaints should be directed to people blocking clean power plants, not to people consuming fungible electricity from a common grid.

I'm pretty sure the megawatt-hours/happiness unit ratio is... rather different between crypto and this quest. people don't dislike crypto because it uses energy to do stuff, they dislike crypto because it uses a shitload of energy to do not very much stuff.

Cryptocurrency isn't an amusement. A single Bitcoin transfer is currently estimated to cost 2,207 killowatt-hours of electricity for one single transfer, producing about as much carbon waste as watching 174,720 hours of youtube videos. I don't know what it costs to run SV, but it's a single server that hosts text and images to somewhere less than 10,000 users each day. (Which costs vastly less energy than streaming video.) There is no comparison between the two.
