But we aren't trying to trick them with cheap baubles or planning to make them slaves or second-class citizens or anything like that?

Hell, it isn't like we could reasonably keep them independent as anything but a sham. Most of their population is in Griffon land or over in Neighpon, their land is so devastated that they probably won't be able to support themselves for decades if not centuries depending on how bad this stuff is. Their people are badly damaged and psychologically fucked up by who knows how many years of slavery etc... so they would be utterly lacking in any sort of army and utterly dependant on us and our allies in pretty much every way possible...

Like, the question is basically, do we want to take them over fully or make them an "independent" state that is basically gonna do anything we say anyway for fear of making us angry.
Even worse.

Do we want to take them in fully as fellow citizens and brothers or do we wanted to leave a marked seperation, them "independant" as glorified serfs at best?

I say we put forth our whole hearted effort in support of our fellow people and accept them not merely as "friends" made glorified serfs but fully as family.

it's supposed to be a joke....

I say protectorate. Like vassal, but more freedom and a review of the crystal territory status in 10 years.
In that time, it will either be ready to stand by itself or be so consumed by our culture that they will join us on their own and no one will complain.

I say we help them set back up with support and such (annexing them will worry our neighbors as it will seem as if we are greedy for land), we keep close ties with them and give them the final say on intergration later down the line after we know they are in the right state to actually choose... when our neighbors will be less worried about war (the Yaks are spooked and the Neighponese are abit wary as well, they respect us atm but us showing we are expansionist probably wont end well).

Tldr: Honourable Neighbors! Not Hungry Expansionist Warmongers! (Perception matters)

Like a protectorate state?

I mean...Yeah. We should strive to help our fellow sapients! And I'm sure that in the long run, diversity can only helm right? Eventually, we might even be able to do something with the crystal, plus getting some pony magic for ourselves.

On one hand annexation is certainly the best short-term solution, however...I do think that, if possible, there should be a way for the Crystal Ponys to become their own sovereign nation again if they want to.

provide referendum within the crystal territories whether or not they wish to succeed once the land has been revived to self sufficiency.

In fact we're trying for benevolence right? Have a protocol for succession in general. If they are getting used we're fucking up.

Why not just annex on terms to hold a succession referendum within the next hoeever much twice the estimate of how long it will take to fix the land enough to support the crystal empire is. once the lands are rejuvinated enough to support the crystal lands?

That helps with perception too since the fact of the referendum and it's terms would be made public. Even better since we are effectively for free fixing up the situation so the referendum, unless we seriously fuck up, happens at a point when they could feasibly be independant.

Doing this we also don't tie to a

The referendum Is a nice idea, and I can't see the crystal ponies refusing to join us. We're their heroes after all!

Many will probably move to our lands, and in the next few years the crystal lands will slowly start to heal.

In the short term we'll probably focuse on making the lands closest to their capital and their mines liveable, and maybe some villages/towns along the rivers/coast. Give it a few years and we might also start building our railroads (TRAINS!) And airships for even easier travel/trading.

We could thank the neighponese by either giving them some coastal lands for some colonies, some more tech sharing, or even both.

By the way, we know have a completely new race with its own magical abilities to study and develop!

No matter what we do, we probably need to take over for a decade or two while the ponies get back on their hooves.

Also what do you think about using an action to have some bards create a play based on the war, we can give Hardbeak a big role

Guys? Remember the canon omake discussing this very topic?

Making the Crystal Empire into the Crystal Protectorate might be a bad idea in the long-run.
Yes, no protectorates, no half citizens. They are either a foreign nation or full citizens just as any other of our people. Bonds not of steel nor silk but of the family for they are us and we are them.

Actually, even before the crystal coasts are ours if ever they become ours maybe we should give neighpongood portions of the gryffonian coasts for their use and colonizaion as well.

I'm kind of hoping that the crystal empire joining us could be a sign of things to come, as the yaks gradually merge with us, and the neighponese, maybe, possibly, probably not, sometime in the far future also join us. Just my ambitious thoughts.

If I zoomed out to show the Yak Lands, you would also see parts of the world that you haven't yet explored. I'm trying to avoid spoilers.

Couldn't you just add fog of war to the unexplored regions? You wouldn't even need a special texture or anything, just add a new layer and draw over the spoilers with the background color. Bam, unfinished map.

Seeing situation at hand I'm for annexation with autonomous status inside the Empire and possibility of referendum down the line.

Or instead of annexation we merge and form personal union with golden feather family ruling it called simply the Empire.

The latter is, I think, most peoples intention regarding annexation.

Idle thought on the Crystal Heart. The city is not secure enough keep it there, but moving it to the capitol is to aggressive..
But there is another heavily fortified location right between us and them that could be used to store it safely. The Pedegrine Wall. with Sombrea's threat dealt with, we don't have that much need for it. why not re-purpose it as a secure location to store the heart.

On the one hand, "here be dragons"/"no one has gone here" is a perfectly valid answer seeing as we should know where we haven't heard of. On the other hand maybe that counts as somewhat spoilery I don't know.

Also looks like his reign did start before the fall of Discord. Since it has only 17 years since then. Not the decades it is talking about.

It was Discord. I wouldn't put it past him to make time flow faster for some than others.

...I wouldn't put it past him to make time flow backwards for some, and not for others, at that.

Ooh a wall colony would sound cool. The foundation is set to build on, tho some adaptation needed for building homes there, trying to turn the walls into a town would be interesting. Or the walls are a castle, if its anything like I picture em to be then its possible.

I picture the walls to be this, tho it does seem like its suited for griffin settlement then pony.

The name stays the same. We named it as such because the Empire formed in the Gryphus region of the continent we are on. It is not named after our people or species.
