Stunning upset as startup Zero-Wolf trounces Harvick in Strike Craft competition. Harvick was responsible for the vast majority of Earth Federation combat aircraft and was the favorite to win the competition to replace their own aging Saberfish. Their Scandinavian branch Vehrec spearheaded the effort producing no less than five prototypes in four weight categories. Even when the Multi-Strike-Craft Program was canceled in favor of the All Purpose Strike Craft Program, Harvick/Vehrec were confident that at least one of their designs would make the cut.
Competing against Harvick were the startups Void-Zero based in Side-1's Shangri-La colony and Wolfstrum based in Side-6's Libot Colony; both were formed by former members of the Federation's Harvick and Zeon's MIP companies respectively. During the competition it was discovered that the design requirements for Zero's Space Heavy 2 and Wolf's Resolute were nearly identical, this lead to cooperation and eventually a corporate merger into Zero-Wolf.
In a shocking turn of events not a single one of Harvick's prototypes made it to the second stage of testing, the top three contenders were all prototypes by Zero-Wolf; Real Space, Space Heavy 1, and Resolute. All three shared the same basic components as Real Space; an internal weapons bay, a miniaturized inertial dampening system, and at least one engine with Zero-Wolf's latest model afterburner. Space Heavy 1 and Resolute simply added onto Real Space, with Resolute including a pair of cannons and Space Heavy 1 including a single cannon and second engine w/afterburner.
When the tests were concluded the Earth Federation's top brass were convinced, 7/9 in favor of Space Heavy 1. "The engines were the key" said Admiral Fisher of the EFSF, "Without ECA speed is armor, and Space Heavy 1 had the greatest acceleration in space and the highest top speed in-atmophere" Admiral Fisher was one of the key voices in the debate that saw the Nova enter the EFSF instead of a new battleship. At the end of the competition Space Heavy 1 was rechristened the Resolute, "We liked the name too much to get rid of it" said a spokesman from Zero-Wolf.
Still, the saga hasn't appeared to have finished yet. Zero-Wolf doesn't yet have the industrial capacity to fulfill the Federation's need for new airframes as well as their orders from the rest of the Colonies, this has lead to the Federation granting them a massive grant to greatly expand their factories in Shangri-La & Libot and to open a new factory on Earth. In the mean time Harvick has been granted a license to produce the Resolute until such time as Zero-Wolf's new factories come online, a sorely needed boost with Harvick seeing record losses this year in the face of the Federation's adoption of mobile suits and abandonment of Harvick's Saberfish.
I'm going to make two assumptions:
1. Recon Package or an equivalent is in the parts list, we simply haven't seen it yet.
2. 100 points in the MS builder is worth 1 point in the Aircraft builder.
3. Not really something that pertains to this conversion but something I want to bring up; working under Assumption 2, an Inertial Dampener would be 300 points in the MS Builder.
So here's the new Sparrow Scout, upscaled to Medium to fit a theoretical Recon Package.
YES!!! This "scout" is in the heaviest weight class, has ECA, and has 3 Afterburner engines!
Because really, who even needs subtlety!

OK, next up, some speculation about weapons.
In Gundam the head vulcans are pretty useless; they shoot down aircraft and light vehicles and the occasional projectile but they don't matter in a fight between giant robots.
However! Energy Conversion Armor despite making mobile suits more tanky ironically makes the vulcans useful in a mobile suit fight because it shares the same flaw as Phase Shift Armor from Gundam SEED. ECA and PSA are both battery powered, you can drain them to uselessness with scratch damage if you're persistent enough.
"Even with regular warheads, the Phase Shift loses power after 76 hits."
-Commander Andrew Waltfeld
And here we transition to Macross. For those unfamiliar the VF-1 Valkyire uses a 3-barraled 55mm gunpod, that's about the same caliber as GM/Gundam head vulcans give or take 10-20mm. The 55mm seems to chew through Zentradi mecha well enough that larger caliber gunpods aren't needed, wether this is due to Zentradi mecha being lightly armored or the 55mm using ammunition derived from reverse-engineered alien tech is up for debate. In either case, our Gundam/GM head vulcans should be theoretically capable of penetrating the armor of Zentradi mecha either as they are now or with improved ammunition. Firepower of the GU-11 Gun Pod - Macross Mecha Manual
What isn't up for debate is that by the time of Macross Zero/Macross 7 the NUNS had switched to 30mm caliber gunpods with no decrease in performance or penetration. This indicates that there was an improvement in ammunition in the intervening 30 years.
What this boils down to is that I believe that with improvements in ammunition and design, shell firing weapons will continue to see use on our mobile suits in this timeline long after beam weapons would have replaced them. At least until railguns are sufficiently ruggedized to the point where we can make magnetic machine guns.
Joanna Stuart was finally finished with the first stage of the Alien Ship Research. Now began the process of rebuilding the huge ship to further explore the underlining technology. Something that as the Chief Engineer would fall under Joanna's purview. She has become one of if not the leading experts on the Alien Overtech at least when it comes to application. She has acquired a group of colleagues to help her push the Technology of Humanity as far as possible.
Doctor Dallan Wolfgang from the V-Project MS development program with his structural and defensive materials. After finally receiving the funding needed to advance his coating project by merging it into the V-Project he made great progress. Not only has he been able to increase his anti-energy coating to the point where a single layer can nullify several hits from a beam or alien energy weapon but his magnetic coating is looking at increasing the reaction and endurance of MS by at least 20%. He is also working with the material science department to try and improve the normal titanium ceramic armor that all non-elite MS come equipped with. He is working to bring cost and weight down in order to increase the armor that can be worn by most MS. There is also a proposal for trying to do the same for Lunar Titanium but until Von Braun is brought in no real progress is being made. If the former project bares fruit though that will make several construction projects and shipbuilding advancements possible.
Doctor Colin Hurton an engineer as well as one of the lead designers of the Nova Class Battlecruiser. He is working closely with both Admiral Fisher and General Revil to bring the EFSF up to a standard that they have a chance against an alien attack. He is a part of the Naval Review Board and has worked on getting as much technology added to the older vessels through the refit program as is viable. It was also on his projections of what the alien forces would possibly send and the size of their ships that lead to the increase in the size of Federation Warships. His main goal is to have a fleet ten times the current size made up of modern warships and built to exploit every advantage that can be found. He provides access to the higher levels of the EFF to provide funding and continuing technological advancement.
Silvana Sinclair is the leader of the Zeon research team sent to study the alien ship. A brilliant researcher she was the one that managed to decipher the alien medical system. Working with Doctor Jackson she was able to work out the Alien computers as well. As the one working closest with the Federation, she has earned the respect of many of the researchers and engineers. She has also learned to respect and admire the Federation's own people. She made friends with some of the others working on the ship as well. Among them was Chief Engineer Stuart who made quick confidantes of each other. She has promised to speak with her own superiors and push for continued cooperation between Zeon and the Federation. Seeing that as the only way to increase the rate of advancement that is needed for survival.
One of the other engineers Doctor Edgar Rivera is a member of the Federation Major Works Project. One of the leading voices that pushed through the complete revamp of Earth's infrastructure and industrial production. The technology that has been gained from the alien ship has found several important applications for civilian sectors due to his efforts. He has worked closely with several of the other researchers and engineers to find ways the technology can improve the quality of life for as many people as possible. As well as starting the process for the large scale communications arrays in the works and the two super projects on Earth for the Space Elevator and anti-space defensive systems Doctor Rivera pushed hard for sending aid to the people of the Jupiter Sphere. He did this mostly out of Altruistic believes since his main goal is the betterment of all Humanity.
One of the newest members of the group is Doctor Ernesto Rodriguez. Mosty concerned about improving the offensive potential of Humanity he has focused on weapons technology. He worked to examine and replicate the weapons found on the alien MS and used that experience to finally miniaturize the Beam cannons used on warships into MS scale weapons. He was also involved with the team that improved the ballistic weapons that are still a major component of Federation and Zeon forces. While his assistance in the development of the railgun technology that is now seeing wider use and refinement made him the obvious choice to examine and create an updated version of the TZ weapon captured by Task Force Radiant. Doctor Rodriguez spent quite a while refining and updating the truly crude cannon into something that while limited in movement can still be used to destroy any vessel that Humanity could think about building in the current Era. The Fenrir cannons have the potential to even the odds for humanity while on the defensive. It is wholly unsuitable for offensive operations but a defense in depth with multiple Fenrirs being used could destroy a large number of Alien ships.
A former colleague and member of the Zeon team, but still a friend of the group. Now a member of the private sector Doctor Ali Aurora took a position with the new aerospace company Zero-Wolf. It was his involvement that leads to the development of the Resolute class fighter for the EFF. Having worked on Zeon's own MS projects Doctor Aurora knew what was needed to give the new fighter a chance but with what he learned from the Alien ship he also knew he had to prepare it for combat with possible alien forces as well. Because of that, the development of the high-speed frame was pushed in order to allow for rapid hit and fade attacks against superior numbers. In order to give all forces a fighting chance Doctor Aurora while still working with the alien research teams developed the reaction warhead based off of what they were able to discern from the reactors and engines. These warheads give even a single anti-ship missile the power to destroy any pre-refit warship in a single hit. It is hoped that even the alien vessels cannot take multiple hits from these warheads to give our fighter and MS the punch to blunt the alien forces' attack.
Doctor Shiro Kurita is the leader of the communications and sensor department. He has the hardest job of trying to improve both of those portions of Humanity's tech base. While the advancements from the alien computers have increased the ability of comms and sensors they still fall short of what is deemed acceptable. In order to address this issue, Doctor Kurita has focused all his efforts into finding some frequency or signal that can pierce the higher saturation levels of M-particles. While there are some leads nothing has proven truly special. This has lead to a side project for Doctor Kurita using the reaction warhead recently developed and the IFF system gained from the alien computers he has developed a new anti-ship weapon. A missile/torpedo meant to be fired only from warships and then using only the IFF system and visual reading for large vessels speeds toward enemy ships. The larger size and increased payload lead to a devasting weapon. Unfortunately while powerful at the current level it would require a dedicated ship with a primarily missile-based loadout to be effective since it would require a large number of missiles to get hits with the interference. A positive of designing a missile cruiser is that when the saturation issue is solved the ship becomes even more dangerous on the battlefield.
The last of the group is Doctor Antonio Castillo a high energy physicist and engineer. Coincidently he happens to have a son that serves alongside Doctor Stuart's daughter. Doctor Castillo is invested in increasing the efficiency of the reactors used in all Federation assets as well as looking into ways to make the ECA system cheaper and easier to mount on units. Currently, he is working to see how much a mixture of R and M particles can be made without causing damage to the reactor. If he is successful then the ECA will become possible for every vehicle in the EFF arsenal. Power generation is also extremely important as it allows for faster fire rate of the Beam cannons and faster engines for travel speeds. The more spare power produced the stronger that the ECA becomes. This is the main motivation for Doctor Castillo he is aware that his son is testing to become an officer and is likely to become a pilot either in the new Resolute fighter or in one of the MS squadron. The thought of having his son die because there wasn't enough power for his ECA haunts him. So he spends his time pushing the generators as far as possible and finding ways to make them run at that level in a safe and economical fashion.
Overall this group of people is all vital in one way or another to Humanities future growth and advancement. As such, It is the recommendation of this committee that they be officially sanctioned and given as much support as possible to ensure the best outcome even those from Zeon. While only a few are aware of the potential threat the alien pose none of them know the true extent of that threat. It is imperative that they be made aware of the threat and their new level of support to push them to develop technology and counters for the Armada that might show. We have no idea how much time we have so most push as fast and as hard as possible.

@manofjay here is an omake for people Joanna knows and works with closely. I used some people from other omakes and new people as well. They are all being evaluated for ways that they can be used to improve Humanity's chances of survival. It is an in-universe report from a group that was made by the Federation after it was discovered how badly they were stacked up against. Their mission is to find any advantage that they can and find ways to improve what advantage already exist.

So I was rolling for the other factions and Jupiter Mobile Suits came up. So I decided to see what the Jupiter Empire built in canon. Needless to say NONE of that is ever gonna be built in this timeline. What is with people from Jupiter and ugly Mobile Suits?

They are a bad guy faction from outside the earth sphere(hence why much of their stuff seems to be purposely made to look more alien then anything found in the Earth Sphere) and have a materials shortage(somehow, despite you know, having complete control of the Jupiter Sphere and all the resources there. The only thing they should be hard up for are complex organics, which could be solved by some greenhouse colonies). They also had to have a different aesthetic from Federation and Zeon factions.
Looking at them, I'd say they are more hit and miss then anything else. Their first mook mobile suite, the EMS-06 Batara is clearly based on a Zaku, with the "goggles" and tubes on its chest giving it a more "skeletal" feel to emphasize that these are even bigger jerks then Zeon, and it's elite version, the EMS-07 Erebado is probably one of the coolest mobile suits I've ever seen(the thing is based on a freakin Xenomorph for crying out load. It's an automatic win).
Other interesting designs are the Cornix(based on the Jupiter Empire's copy Crossbones Gundam, the Amakusa) and it's atmospheric version, the Impulse Impulse Cornix. The Libertas Dextra Dictus and Jurisdis Sinistra Dictus have an interesting mirror duality thing going on, appropriate for the Custom Moble Suits of a set of brother clones). It mainly seems to be the next generation of Jupiter MS that look more goofy then anything else.
Hard to design something sane looking when the emperors are mad. Yes I said emperors. Also helps that they showed up much later in timeline and things drift.
Taking the matter seriously we do have options for Jupiter.
1. The boring option is that they license and copy the Zaku-II and/or GM
2. We take inspiration from the mobile suits designed by 'The Man from Jupiter' himself Paptimus Scirocco, the Messala, Palace Athene, Bolinoak Sammahn, and The-O. All of which have above average power-to-weight ratios and high thrust to counteract Jupiter's gravity.
3. We import from other Gundam Series. I would suggest designs from Turn-A and Reconguista, both of which are decended from Gundam UC with the later even having a faction named Venus Globe.

If you want to make MS that don't look weird for Jupiter I have the Gundam game that is good for kit bashing units. Let me know what you want and I will try and make it for you. This is open to anyone.
Also has no one picked up on the engineer from the research reports and story posts?

Enough variety to fill a wide range of roles, and plenty of cool Ace Custom type units.

Honestly I don't really care as long as they get the Erebado as their elite suit(that thing is seriously cool) and maybe the Cornix as their hero gundam equivalent.
That said, does anyone know why the Jupiter Empire seems to be suffering from a resource shortage? I mean the wiki says they need to ration even water and oxygen. Just, why?! The Galilean moons are right there! Not to mention all the other moons. The Jupiter Sphere should be one of if not the most resource rich spheres in the entire Sol System, water and oxygen in particular should easily be supplied by either Europa or Ganymede, take your pick. The only resources they should be hard up for are people and complex organics(like food) but between their immense resource base and strangle hold on the energy market they should easily be able to afford all the organic material they need to fill up some agricultural production colonies.

Not really sure why you would have a problem with designs like the Erebado and Cornix.
They don't have the tech or the people to try and do that. Also getting those resources is extremely difficult and dangerous work. Food and other requirements for living out there with no support are in very short supply because the colonies are few in number and very new. That means they don't have the ability to make use of what is out there.

That doesn't make any sense. It would be no more difficult to put down mining operations or even cities on Ganymede, Europa and Callisto then it would on the Earth's moon. Io's the only one that would require special effort. Hell I'm surprised that they simply didn't go and make Ganymede the center of the Jupiter sphere by default since it pretty much has everything except a biosphere. Water, mineral resources, a magnetic field.
If the Jupiter Empire has the technology and resources to wage war on the freakin Earth on the other side of the solar system then they should have the technology and resources to start exploiting the bounty around them.

Except they don't have the technology or resources to wage a war. That took them decades of hiding and building up their strength and letting others weaken Earth first before they tried and failed to beat the Earth Sphere.

The fact that they could do that at all suggests that by all rights they should be industrially exploiting the Jupiter Sphere to the point of all but drowning in resources. Waging war in just the Earth Sphere is hard, just look at all the resources and industry the Federation and Zeon needed to produce their large armies. Waging war across the solar system however, that's not something you just do on a whim.
No, that answer it get. It's the idea that they are a bunch of inherently resource parched, technologically backward bumpkins surviving only because of the Jupiter Energy Fleet that I object to. Gross mismanagement of resources makes much more sense(and sadly very realistic) then the idea that they simply lack the technology to properly exploit the Jupiter Sphere to the point where even oxygen and water have to be carefully rationed(even though Europa and Ganymede are basically just right there).
Alex stared at Gamlin like he had just asked her to move Solomon while on an EVA walk, "Me?!"
"Well yes."
"Why me?"
GK rubbed the back of his head, "Well I asked Larry and he laughed for minute straight before telling me to look else where, Shin told me to ask Roy, Roy told me what maneuvers what we'd be starting with and I panicked then ran off, and to be honest Tivularrthak intimates me."
Alex narrowed her eyes, "So picked me because I'm not as good?"
GK shook his head and waved his arms in front of him, "No! Not at all! I Picked you because your the closest to me in skill!"
Alex continued to flatly glare at him.
GK groaned and covered his face with both his hands, "I mean you'll be the easiest to learn from."
Alex cocked her eyebrow, "And why is that?"
GK paused for a moment, brow furrowed in thought. His mind desperately searching for the right answer, "Because your the best teacher?"
Alex's glare softened as she seemed to think for a instant, before nodding her head as if accepting the answer, "Alright then, go get your pilot suit on."
"Ok? But why?"
"Because the best teacher is practical experience, we're gonna have a training duel."
Gamlin paled dramatically, "Oh."
"Gotcha, gotta watch your rear."
"How!"
"And your dead again, you should already be moving when they start reading their weapon."
"Ok, I think I got it this time."
"Ahagaaa! How!?!"
"You'll be happy to know my first shot missed. You are getting better."
"You don't have to clean paint off your MS, so no, I'm not."
"Hey you hit me that time! Good job!"
(Out of breath) "Thanks...."
"Now we can take the training wheels off!"
"Wait, what?"
Gamlin came into the common room looking like he'd gotten run over by a freight train, Alex walked in after him looking chipper, "see you next week GK!"
Larry walked over to the ragged looking ensign, "You ok buddy?"
Gamlin simply stared dead eyed at the legendary ace and uttered the infamous phrase, "Women are terrifying."
Shin glanced over at Roy, "You planned this didn't you?"
Roy said nothing and shook his head well shrugging, looking very much like he'd just gotten his hands on a canary.
(Your relationship with GK has increased, Alex's MS piloting skill is now 8/10, GK's MS piloting is now 6/10)
(Gamlin Quest did not have a good time, for fun I rolled a CHA roll to see how well his asking went, he got a 23)
The fact that they could do that at all suggests that by all rights they should be industrially exploiting the Jupiter Sphere to the point of all but drowning in resources. Waging war in just the Earth Sphere is hard, just look at all the resources and industry the Federation and Zeon needed to produce their large armies. Waging war across the solar system however, that's not something you just do on a whim.
They don't have the time the colonies are newly established as in less than two decades old. And what you are referencing is something that happens nearly 100 years from now so no shit they have improved. They also put all their efforts into the energy fleet because that does provide such a large amount of cash. They aren't technologically backwards they are limited in what they have and make due. When they were sent out they didn't get much if any support none of them had the equipment or ability to be self-sufficient. You seem to think that building cities and colonies is easy it is not it is extremely difficult and much harder when you don't have an established support base already like is available in the Earth Sphere.
The colonies of Jupiter are bad because they can't get to the resources that are there because they focus on the fleet and trying to build up the required materials to even survive being cut off from everything. There is also not as much resources as you think while there is the moons most of those are death traps that would kill anyone from the radiation alone not to mention the tidal forces for the Gas Giant and the other moons would make it unstable to build on. The frozen ocean world for water that is under miles of the thickest ice sheet possible and again unstable and radioactive. The outer solar system isn't full of the rare earth metals and other important material that is mostly concentrated in the inner solar system.
Hey @manofjay I was looking up some research for the gunpods for the fighters 35mm is powerful depending on what you are going for the 60mm head guns on MS . Since that is the size of the rotary autocannon and not the size of the round. Which is firing 20mm rounds from a rotary autocannon. So is the 35mm gunpod using 35mm sized rounds in a rotary autocannon or single barrel autocannon.
Looking it up, it's Callisto that would be the best planet to settle on. It's a dead world, so no tectonic activity. It's the farthest from Jupiter and is exposed to even less radiation then the Earth is, and there is plenty of frozen water on the surface to melt or turn into oxygen.
Only Io and to a lesser extent Europa are tectonically active. Ganymede's less tectonically active then Earth is and Callisto never had any tectonic activity.
Ok, first off. Only the surface layer of ice on Europa is radioactive. In fact RL colonization plans call for drilling into the ice sheets to use them as a radiation shield, possibly all the way down to the liquid level for those scientists who want to study Europa's oceans. Second, why would they need to drill to the liquid oceans just to get water anyway? They have fusion reactors, they have more then enough power to both melt ice into water or use electrolysis to turn water into oxygen and hydrogen.
Even if they don't want to drill for ice beneath any radioactive layers on Europa or Ganymede, the ice on Calisto's surface is perfectly ok.

Except they don't have any experience with that kind of construction at all and no support system to allow them to even try. They need to spend all their time focused on survivial which is the part you keep ignoring. They don't have any of the required equipment, manpower, or knowledge to do what you want. If the tried most of the people in the colonies would die because what few resources were available are redirected to your projects and that defeats the whole purpose of it. And it is not natural tectonic plates that is the issue it is the tidal forces and other cosmic debris that makes up the Jupiter orbits. You want answers for why they aren't the riches part of the solar system I have given you several reasons. Besides the fact that the leadership is not great, it is also that they have no support only the energy fleet is a source of excess funds and materials for them to grow but that takes time. Like I keep telling you at this point the colonies are new and barely established. Stop basing stuff off of what they did nearly 100 years in the future when they had all that time to build up. Why do you think we went with the option to send them as much support as possible? It was so we can get them producing more materials for the war effort. Without a real support base, they cannot expand the way you seem to think they can unless they kill off a large portion of the people living there.
So just in case, no one picked it up or if they did and just didn't feel like saying anything. The Chief Engineer that is in the reports and the story posts is the mother of Alex our character.
lol, scientist fluff to make something sound more important to the generals looking over this. Large enough quantities of oxygen and hydrogen can also cause an explosion greater than any fission weapon made. And fusion is better than fission anyways by multiple orders of magnitude.
