Hard agree.

The worst part about the waystones is that when if we succeed, I suspect the average person in the realm probably won't even notice.

Oh Sylvania has less Dhar now? How can you tell? Will Sylvanians take the word of a bunch of Wizards that things are better now, no, really?
We're a Grey Wizard.

If the common folk never realise we saved them, it means we were able to act in time. (And had The Protector turned off)

Mixing instinct with dhar is a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad idea, methinks. It works for a lot of things, but... I'd hesitate using it for that particular problem.

I guess if you are a really monofocused on cleansing Light Magister it may work, but even then, it has a huge chance of driving you insane unless you roll insanely well.
I'm not saying instinctively cleanse dhar.

Just that something that is incredibly hard under the Elven paradigm might actually be more achievable under the developing human paradigm.
Elves can't or don't do "leaps of logic" that Humans naturally do thanks to their mono-wind attunement. Perhaps a Human could do that leap, bypassing the complexity.

The Human (empire) paradigm is based on the Elf paradigm, and is probably only just starting to diverge enough where a human can be better than an elf at the human paradigm.

I suggest we cleanse Sylvania of environmental Dhar by drawing all of it into Mathilde's body.

Surely nothing bad could come from that, we have Kragg's Belt after all. Kragg's handiwork would never break from something ultimately made by umgi works. Definitely.

I'm actually OK with that as long as we use the Rune to burn it off and Ulgu to drag it in.

one of the things about Markgraf of Eastern Stirland that makes me want it is that... well, just how rare a job opportunity it is.

for one, the title, while being arguably the 3d highest (official) rank in the empire, is only around when needed.

and Mathy being offered the job is the result of:

A) Newly retaken land

B) that land needing someone with our skillset (anti-vampire/ anti-necromancy) and not bad at running shit and being a general when needed.

C) Having an Elector count, the only ones allowed to give the title, trusting Mathy enough to give the title most likely to create a rivel job to her.

there is a lot of elements to the opportunity that won't be there in 10 years time. (unless the guy/gal that Roseia picks after us bites it. pun intended)

and yes, that can be said for some of the other jobs, but there will be opportunities of 'similar' level in the future.

the rank only lower then elector? we aren't seeing that level of a job until we start eyeing
Matriarchs of the grey order/ Supreme Matriarchs.

edit: I will admit that the same can be said about the tutor job, as the rarest and highest 'unofficial' rank on the list.

A very similar proposition has been made about Praag. I suspect the answer to the proposition above would be the exact same. The QM's answer to using the belt to dedharize Praag was

It'd be like trying to drain an ocean with a bucket. The only thing that can really help Praag is time.

I seem to recall a time when Gustav killed a dhar infested mountain in Eastern Stirland with cannons. It's too bad investigating that further didn't pan out. I wonder what Gustav is up to these days.
Anton nods. "I worked out the details with Gustav and Wilhelmina. The whole crossbow thing sat badly with a lot of people - I mean, as you know, right? And now she'll let herself be 'convinced' to reverse that. Instead of a unified force of handgunners, there'll be an elite core with Stirland Repeaters and the rest will have crossbows. Same price, a higher weight of fire, less troubles with the traditionalists."
As of turn 25 he was still on Roswita's council, and we don't have any reason to think otherwise, since that sort of change should pop up on our EIC network:

Information being collected and supplied to Mathilde:
Military movements of Stirland, and the events of the campaigns it undertakes.

Bit of an Odd question Boney.

Has Mathildie's Martial training and experience surpassed Ablehiem's yet?
Martial: 24 - You've seen Van Hal in combat, and he swings his Runefang with devastating force.
Martial: 16+1+1+1+2+2=23 - You're no longer just a wizard that can wave a sword - you have become a warrior in your own right.
She's not quite there yet.

I wonder if an anvil-of-doom level Valaya's Vengeance could cleanse a meaningful portion? Not all of Praag, and certainly not all Sylvania, but maybe a battlefield size region, like say Drakenfel castle itself?

Btw, that's a low estimate of his ability, as he supposedly had polearm masteries for days. As in, a runefang was a straight downgrade in his effective martial and Boney described his skill with polearms as the stuff elector-countships are being awarded for.

Edit: huh, maybe that's why Roswita seems to dislike the runefang so? She knew her Da was invincible with a polearm in his hand, but he just had to use that stupid chunk of gromril in that battle?

The 16-20 that we had before getting the exact number was the low estimate caused by the runefang, 24 is the real martial score.

Mathilde never saw his raw martial. He never had the time to grow fully familiar with the Runefang, and with his halberd he achieved the sort of things that one gets given Stirland for. Updated the threadmark.

(This being in the context of someone asking for his exact stats now that he's dead, and the explanation given for why his martial was far over the estimate on the character sheet.)

He likely still had circumstantial martial bonii like Mathilde does, but 24 is an accurate representation of his regular martial.

I think we should avoid prejudging the specific degree to which any particular project yields actionable results for the world and/or is boring until after this vote is over and we get the "more information about the job" Mathilde goes for. This goes for Swamp Town as well as Waystones.

One of the things that makes this quest stand out, IMO, is Boney's ability to spring unintended and unforeseen first-and-second-order consequences that nevertheless make total sense and end up recontextualizing a lot of what we've done. That's why I'm trying, despite my pro-dwarf pro-K8P bias, to keep an open mind and imagine things that might be capable of changing my mind and tilt me towards something new, like in the romance vote.

It is very easy to make up a case for a particular thing and judge that case wanting or a slam-dunk based entirely on those invented positions. Let's let Boney make the cases for the stuff we're interested in learning more about, and content ourselves for now with deciding simply "which things pique our interest enough to learn more about."

Mathilde goes up to +28 with her greatsword, and +38 when defending a chokepoint. That's pretty up there...

Greatsword proficiency is just rolled into her 'base' martial. She has 33 when Master Swords procs, either through a chokepoint or enraged/unthinking opponents.

She does potentially have 38 with master swords and Shadow Steed, but opportunities to use Shadow Steed in combat are fairly rare as she's usually fighting undergound/indoors.

The status quo loremaster option is 'sinecure.' We still get paid and can pay our employees through that, assuming that doesn't get reworked by whatever our boon/deed expenditures are.
Yes, because one is basically taking the position and doing nothing with it and having loads of free time (sinecure) the other is getting Belegar to use us further afield.
Okay, I meant Loremaster-at-Large. For clarity's sake, I've edited my analysis post to reflect that explictly
