Or, heavens help the poor soul, half a dozen memes from the Media threadmarks.
Considering a fairly large amount of the media thread marks are Flight School memes, it probably says something about her mindset and how she views other mindsets.

It's kind of silly but I want to see if we can steal a mammoth. More to annoy a tribe who was willing to sacrifice one of our people to Chaos in their dumb ritual than because of a desire for a mammoth. Although it would be interesting to see if we can get some good use out of one.

Also idle amusing thought. If we hadn't dealt with the mirrorsnek by now somehow it'd have been pretty damned hilarious if he suddenly found himself with a Wisdom's Asp popping out of that mirror he was playing with.

... You guys remember it's an animal, right?

Like, nobody's complaining about Taal's guys going out into the forest and throwing themselves on top of a kittybird until it either kills them or submits, and asking people to please think of the kittybird's feelings and rights and what if the kittybird doesn't want to go murder Chaos dudes for a living
I also don't go stealing people's dogs, because it's a major dick move. Stealing a mamoth that seems quite happy with its tribe doesn't sit well with me for the same reason.

They're literally chaos worshipers. While it's endearing that everyone is worried about what the Mammoth thinks, there is very nearly zero ethical dilemma involved in fucking with these people.

I'd like to make the argument to speak to Deathfang. He's a truly ancient being that will have a very unique perspective on life and the world. This is a very rare opportunity, we have access to Cython but his perspective is warped by Hysh. Deathfang's isn't.

The sheer amount of hints that Deathfang has dropped about what he knows when we spoke to him last was amazing. I want to explore that. Both IC and OOC.

On more cynical IC grounds, if we can befriend him, even a tiny amount, recruiting him and Asarnil may well be easier in future. With the Marienberg situation probably unresolved, this could be pretty important.

We've tried going broad on socials already. Let's focus on building some strong relationships while we can.

Changing vote, I agree deathfang will be more interesting than the knight and a better long term contact to try and cultivate, more importantly anything that makes it less likely Asarnil will end up working for Marienburg the better.

Wait...
Stealing the Mammoth was BoneyM's idea. QM planted that idea in the Thread i.e. Mathilde's head. QM is tempting us with a Battle Altar carrying Mammoth.
Guys! We're being tempted by Tempter themself!

DO NOT VOTE FOR GRAND THEFT MAMMOTH!!!

While I absolutely do care about the well-being of Chaos Worshipers, in this case I don't want to take an animal away from the people it likely cares for. Much like stealing a dog from its owner affects the emotional well-being of the dog, as well as the owner.

It might be a little something like...
This:

And to think, that's the Highly redacted version.

Yeah uh, it's rather different when the dog is actually a mammoth, and the people it might like are cultists who train it to murder people.

Fuck it, Ranald was good to us on this trip - let's commit grand theft Mammoth.

Needs a mindbreak tag for poor Boney, soon to have read over 9000 pages, of which a truly horrific amount must be the intellectual equivalent of drooling on the dinner table.

Thinking about Horstman I have a theory for what his deal is, and hold on here because it is a bit meta:

This is a quest and the most fun decisions in a quest are the ones that can be argued one way or another. If he is just Chaos, or just dissatisfied with Alric and loyal there isn't much to talk about. It's a sword in the first case and a cup of warm tea and commiserations in the second.

Now if he is Chaos curious, which is to say going down the slippery slope but not quite down all the way there is a bit more debate but it still comes down to Mathy giving a ultimatum, the judgement is just 'has he gone too far'. We have no impetus beyond whatever liking we may have for Horstman as a person to spare him.

I think the most intriguing possibility is if Horstman is the Chaos associated version of 'has the Liber Mortis', that is in possession of knowledge that would make him very dangerous, but putting it to good use. That way the question becomes not just 'do we tell him to stop?' but 'do we cover for him?' or even 'do we help?'

A man in that situation would certainly do his best to ascertain how Mathilde sees the Empire and the Articles. We are not bound to die for bigots can easily become 'we should be allowed to study this here shady shit for the betterment of the world.' I mean you have mentioning the Night of a Thousand Arcane Duels you have him talking about fools hoarding magic in our firs talk. That could be cackling Cultist material but it could also be someone towing the line and looking for the greater good like Mathy herself.
