I was going to argue against the Frozen Sea and not to make too fine a point staying in the Deep Wastes, but seeing as I would be arguing with unanimity I'll just say, best to be ready to cut and run to the south when the Wagons get overurn. We did promise Panoramia.

We won't be staying in the deep wastes. We'll be getting out of them, and skirt them. Says so in the update.

If we take the frozen sea route, could we modify the 'terrain scanning' aspect of the Rite of Way to seek out weak ice?

"It can hold our weight?" Sir Ruprecht asks dubiously.

"The Chaos Dwarves need to use fire sorcery and leashed daemons to weaken the ice enough that their dreadnoughts can break through it. Our steam-wagons won't even make it creak."

I don't think modifying spells on the fly is in the works. Shouldn't be necessary, though.

We have to give a unbiased report on Karak Dum, before Snorri does, otherwise Gotrek's death would be for nothing.
Let's leave any further discussion of Dum and the context of last turn's vote until after this expedition is over when it becomes relevant again. Rather not respark the same arguments the last hundred pages have been based around so soon.

Oh, and:
[x] Frozen Sea

[X] Frozen Sea

That mountain road had like a 1 in 5 chance to kill the tanks even before the tribes and chaos dwarfs started looking at it for ambush potential.

There are alot of wizards on this trip. We aren't going to be able to beat them to all the papers.
LM Co-authorship? LM Co-authorship. They do the work, we slap our name on it. :V

Also:
Adela passes on any claim to any of the Queekish writings, instead opting to share the credit of the lighting mechanism with you. You offer to make it hers alone, but she declines, even when you make it clear it could take some time for you to be able to investigate it. Apparently she thinks having your name and hers on the same paper will be good for her career.

The Frozen Sea path is utterly unscouted and goes through dire mountains for almost half the length. I think we will stuck and die there, RoW or not.

[X] Road of Skulls

The candidates are a Ranger from one Hold, a Wizard from another, and two human Knights who will cause political mess if one is promoted over the other. Avoiding the topic entirely is probably the smart choice.
And yet another good reason to not have risked everything with an infiltration attempt: with Gotrek dead, Borek stabbing us in the back and going AWOL, two knightly orders from Ulric and Taal, and a very tense and dangerous situation...yeah, Mathilde's leadership is probably godsend for the expedition right now. Being well respected by all parties, and having both experience and technical authority with all parties as well (Lady Magister of the Empire, once the acting general of the army of Stirland, Thane of Karak Eight Peaks, Knight of Stirland, has commanded Rangers before (to great success, no less), and has a strong vested interest in getting as many people from all factions of the expedition home as possible.

Combined with the fact that Mathilde immediately folding when asked to let a tantalizing and potentially important mystery go in favor of getting the Expedition home definitely winning her points with the others (possibly even the other wizards, depending on how much the mystery was calling to them as well).

Obviously, Mathilde knows that it would still be a terrible idea to go against the will of most of the other leaders, but her training and experience in realpolitik and empathy with a wide variety of groups/factions means that she has a much better chance of navigating this mess than most.

[X] Frozen Sea

Given that I'd much rather face Norscans who would not be expecting us than Chaos Dwarves who would (not to mention the possibility of facing a tribe of hungry Ogres), the choice is obvious. Combined with the sheer danger of going back the way we came (we'd be almost guaranteed to lose at least one steam wagon, putting our logistical situation even more in peril), and I just don't see a better alternative.

I mean the tanks might I'm pretty sure between the dragon and Shadow Horses We will be able to get through fine. Though there is the minor matter of chaos worshipers looking for their grail to consider... you know stuff like raging barbarians backed up by fel sorcerers and armies of daemons. I think what might be the prime concern either way. All this time when the idea of Chaos attack came up the counter was 'why would they hit such a hard target?'

That question has now been answered: 'For the Za Goblet'. An ice witch can feel the thing over hundreds of miles. Want to bet how far a Chaos Sorcerer can feel it at, when the daemon inside is screaming at them in their dreams to free them?

Yeah, Mathilde's probably going to be fine. But going through the mountains without a scouted pass is death sentence on foot, much less for giant metal behemoths that barely handle steppes without outside help.

I'm not overmuch worried about steppe hordes following and effectively fighting our mobile fortresses through mountain passes. That's not terrain light cavalry excel in whatsoever.

Its not so much as the mystery, even if its one of the factors of Mathilde wanting to stay, its also about duty and trying to find evidence of innocence for Karak Dum.
when base on incomplete evidence the expedition has, the lost hold is starting to look guilty by default. Its more of trying to do good based on assumption that Borek may be exaggerating about how Karak Dum is beyond forgiveness.
