Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
We aren't really needed for any of the work yet, so we'd be better off getting to know people. Personally, I'd like to talk to both Asarnil and Deathfang, but that may not be the practical choice for political considerations.

Spoiler: Voting results [*] Lead the Wizards, Knightly Orders, and Asarnil
Knightly Orders should not be included here, though it seems the chapter itself has the correct version.

On interactions, I really want to talk to Deathfang. First to see to their dietary needs, and also possibly to what their role would be in the Wastes, and if there is any special considerations either good or bad that we should be aware of.

My main leads are currently
Deathfang
Horstman
2 Knight leaders, either personally or joining their hunts.

I would like to get to know each of our new mages as well. Good to establish a baseline of personality so that we can tell if anything tries to possess them or otherwise.

I suppose the Rite of Way will be unveiled when we actually reach the Wastes. I've been really looking forward to the Dwarves' reaction to this surprisingly practical piece of magic, and the Wizards' reaction to the news that Mathilde has apparently custom-built a Battle Magic for this trip that she can cast at will without danger.

Those Scouting and Hunting options look neat... if we'd taken the knights under our wing. Since we haven't and we're still in somewhat friendly territory, they're less of a concern.

I'd say do Borek and Horstmann right away, we need to get an understanding with those two. Borek, since he's the expedition's leader, and Horstmann, not just for OOC reasons, but also because with his ducklings he's a major chunk of our wizardly force.

For the other two slots, I'm thinking either Asarnil or Deathfang, and the Precept, Joerg. Catching up with old friends, especially since they'll be under our command, plus looking into someone from the Knights to get a voting block going. Picked Joerg since he's more interesting, plus we're currently in Kislev so it's thematic.

[ ] Thane Borek Forkbeard
[ ] Preceptor Joerg von Zavstra
[ ] Asarnil the Dragonlord
[ ] Deathfang
[ ] Magister Egrimm van Horstmann

That reminded me that I meant to include the bit I've edited on to the end of this sentence:
"The second week will take us through High Pass, the third across the plateau, the fourth up the Skull Road and skirting along Iron Wolf territory, and the fifth is the final sprint through Dolgan and Yusak territory to Karag Dum, which is also the point where we'll be leaving anything resembling a road."

@BoneyM

The winning vote in the spoiler has us taking control of the knights, but the text of the update is just the wizards and Asarnil.

Should be fixed now.

I wanna learn about how Horstmann sees his ducklings!

[ ] Magister Egrimm van Horstmann <- LEADING DUCK
[ ] Deathfang <- TALK TO DRAGON? TALK TO DRAGON!!!

[ ] Thane Borek Forkbeard <- Sorta important, if only to get the possibility of him listening to us in the future by Mathilde knowing how to better frame things in a way he will be responsive to... at least some 'smaller' issues. And to better convince other people to not listen to him, if need be.

[ ] Sir Ruprecht Wulfhart the Younger <- Influenceable imo, and 'need to prove himself', while valid; can leave one open to being unduly influenced by people above them in a hierarchy. Better to get in on the ground floor with him now to insure against future need

[ ] Journeyman Cyrston von Danling <- I like the cut of his jib, that's all there is to it.

Tbh, I'm not really feeling these two right now after I tried to think about about why I wanted to see them. Weird.
[ ] Head Engineer Gotrek Gurnisson
[ ] Head Ranger Snorri Farstrider

Also, I'm really looking forward to the scene where Mathile first casts Rite of Way on the convoy :D

It seems that Sir Ruprecht Wulfhart felt that way at least once in the time before the Winter Wolves left the Cult, and the newfound independence of the Winter Wolves has allowed him to induct his son into the ranks.
Calling it now: Ruprecht Wulfhart never felt that way, his son is actually adopted and he just lets everyone assume that's the case because he worries the organisation is still judgemental about non-blood related children.

Looking forward to the campaign. The shift between full home front turns and campaign keeps the story fresh.
"I'm hoping hoping none of the events of the next few months lead anyone down that road."

I've enjoyed your Questing Knight series almost as much as the main story. Really adds to the world without straying too far from Mathilde's adventures.

There's really three amazing feats here. Creating a BM spell on short notice (though non-BM spells might be harder), being able to cast it for safely, any time and for extended periods, and finally mastering another BM spell to the point she can just throw it out whenever. Any one of those would be damn impressive.

Granted, she cheats by having an amazing staff, but unlike all her other powerful gear, she made that one herself. So if casting becomes less impressive because of that, then that just means her crafting becomes all the more impressive.

I think Asarnil, Joerg and Wulfhart might be necessary, purely to sort out the chain of command with Asarnil and get to know our fellow councillors. Aside from that, I'd say Borek just to get a read on his mental state but I know Egrimm is probably inevitable.

"The Slayers are sticking to the vessel you're trying to keep from combat?"

"We've got a plan for that," he says with a grin.
Is it a dwarf-tossing device?

Regarding the votes, I'm surprised Asarnil and Deathfang are separate options - I thought they'd be grouped together like Horstmann's ducklings.

I'm thinking Borek, to start learning how best to phrase future advice, Horstmann, so we can check for canon tendencies swap duckling stories, Deathfang, so we know about any dragon-specific things that may come up, and at least one making-ourself-useful action Asarnil, to let him know about chain-of-command and because he's right there when we talk to Deathfang.

I'll avoid voting Gotrek because that would feel too much like OOC named character chasing.

I also think that we need to make sure that there won't be command issues, so we should talk to Arsanil, Deathfang, and Borek. I'd love to avoid picking Horstmann for the same reasons as Gotrek, but he's also the wizard most likely to cause chain of command issues, so IMO we should talk to him. On the other hand, I'd also love to do some ranging (worldbuilding, yay!) so I'll vote for that instead of Horstmann.

[ ] Thane Borek Forkbeard
[ ] Asarnil the Dragonlord
[ ] Deathfang

Become involved with:
[ ] Ranging far ahead of the convoy
- With the Knights of Taal's Fury

Mathilde knows from experience that Deathfang lets Asarnil do the talking. She'd have to deliberately seek out conversation with him for it to happen.

@BoneyM is the absence of the Ice witch as a candidate to get to know better intentional?

She hasn't joined the Expedition yet, she will after this 'turn'.

I'm, reluctantly, Deciding that Bork, Joerg and Ruprecht are all people we need to get to know so that we can get all the chinks sorted out.
Direct superior and command peers need to know how to work together or things get messy on all levels.

Starting to think that we could use an info mark describing each tank. Can't keep them straight with which does what and who is in each one.
