Dwarf-written books that describe the formation and motion of waves, albeit in the way that one describes the habits of a dangerous and implacable foe
"It is with a heavy heart that I must remind the reader, the ocean cannot be grudged, oh we tried, the brave sons of Trugin stabbed it for 30 days and 30 nights after their father was taken (some say cowardly) by a rogue wave, an event that it's still commemorated in the festival of "fuck the ocean", but the accounts of the original warriors are clear in that it brought them no lasting peace of mind.

It is better, I think, to think of it a a great unthinking (and smelly) cave beast, use it, eat it's children, and when the time comes use the power of the ancestors to rip it apart and plunder the treasures it hides, but until then pay it no more mind than it does you, which is none"

Editor's note: The use of mining metaphors is sparse as consequence of heeding the kings edict #20543104 regarding the limitation on seafaring guilds, just one more indignity we must endure."

And here we have a gamechanger. We can have cavalry charge across a bog, and that's near invaluable in combat. We can have troops rapidly move over terrain other generals would consider impassible and assault where they thought themselves the most secure.
Oh hey, an incredibly useful spell for cavalry. In one of the few lores Bretonnian Damsels can't use.
I wonder if this may open up an entire thing of magic cuisine.
Add investigating Ogre Belly Magic to the list.

Since when do we have this fancy thing?

So… the next paper will be a magical cookbook? Actually, the snake juice can also technically be imbibed, and one might "pickle" mushrooms in it if one wanted. It would be amusing if instead of writing a revolutionary book on Aethyric Vitae, she just casually included it in her cookbook about halfling recipies that use her special mushrooms.

"Delicious magic – Merging Halfling Cooking and Greenskin Cuisine"
"Mushrooms That Will Wake Your Magic Bigger! Warning: If "enhancement" lasts more than 4 hours, consult your nearest wizard lord.
"Performance Enhancing Drugs And You – Why You Should Feed Magical Mushrooms To Your Apprentices!"

And you could feel the spell thinning out as the amount of Skywalk instances circulating lessoned, serving as a suitable indicator of when more needed to be added. You thank one Halfling for the use of her field, another for the use of his wheelbarrow, and Johann for the use of his muscles. There's only one remaining component of the spell that requires work - its name.
lessened?

Also: Very cute scene. I wonder how difficult it would be to modify the spell to create a slide. The scene really brought to mind various Halfling children "stresstesting" the spell by running up and then sliding down a hill.

Well that was fun, and on an unrelated note I like the new vote banner.

Interestingly enough the Fog Path spell seems to be indicating that while the newest iteration of the spell is battlemagic, that doesn't seem confirmed for the previous more limited iteration which is likely easier to cast. Looks like Mathilde has in effect actually created two different spells here. One for wizards looking for a simpler (if still presumably difficult) travel spell that works best around dusk/dawn and another more difficult spell that lasts all day.

Also considering the spell's base is a variant of Lesser Magic it seems likely it can be converted into Winds of magic. Celestial magic in particular I think would be a promising choice.

As for the vote greeting the new journeymanlings and fellow masters seems like the most important choice that we really don't want to miss.
[ ] Greet and get to know the Wizards joining the Expedition as they arrive at Praag.

No, the previous version was still battle magic, it was just much less efficient so relied on high amounts of ambient Ulgu around dawn and dusk.

@BoneyM, you mentioned that after the Okral left, you might open up a social option like this:
After the Okral leaves and the Karak's clans spread out into the Karags I'll try to remember to have a social action to explore what it's like when it's not under literal or metaphorical siege.
Is now a turn for it, or are we waiting until K8P has had more time to spread out?

@BoneyM, in Mathilde's opinion would it make sense to experiment to see if the mushrooms can absorb AV. Most of the ways to manipulate it are dead ends because they involve using magic which causes it to scatter into winds, but this is just passive absorption.

Obviously I'm not asking if it would work, but just it it makes sense as an action.

Putting our name into the spell was never about insecurity. Putting one's name on stuff is something one does because they like it, not because they're psychologically unstable. But this has been a fight since the first name vote, when people were throwing out accusations of unprofessionalism or gaudiness (the Master Rune of Kragg the Blingy, which he did in fact create, comes to mind).

I want Mathilde's name in the spell because that'd be neat. Please don't make accusations of immaturity or whatever.

AV only really acts as an energy when it detonates, the rest of the time it acts as a liquid. You might be able to prod these mushrooms - or possibly any mushrooms - into absorbing some, but I'm not sure what use that might be.

I really like this fancy countdown thingie.

You know I have to wonder how Belegar is going to get across Mathilde's findings to the other dwarf kings.

King of Barak Var: So what did your loremaster find?
Belegar: *rattles off all the possibilities and conditionals that Grey Wizard paranoia could muster and the reasons for them mostly rooted in weird manling magic*
King of Barak Var: Ow... my head! How do you sleep at night with that rattling around?
Belegar *deadpan* Beer, lots of beer

Methinks even a traditionalist analysis will find out that the headaches we solve far outnumber the ones we cause.

Literally yesterday iirc.

Her what? I'm not all that interested in seeing how it's going in particular, but I'm tempted to vote for this just to find out what it refers to, because it seems a weird thing to be happening at all.

She's got a large family and seems to have the Nepotism Divided Loyalty. Previous updates have suggested that it's being fed by shuffling over Engineering Candidates.

The thread hasn't investigated due to it being small scale and not our problem. The Celestial College giving us a prod will likely have us start poking around within a year.

Making daemon mushrooms?

Seriously the idea would be to see if we could induce some kind of positive mutation that might be passed on, perhaps creating mushrooms with higher magic storage by exposing them to the raw substance of the Aethir.

So there seems to be some interest in giving Adela a social. Can I convince anybody to support another checkup for our other, final duckling?

Mathilde would probably think it's worth a shot, but from a modern perspective we know that Lamarckism is a losing bet and Mendelian selective breeding is the way to achieve this.
