Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
I'm going to be incommunicado later on today, so I'm probably going to miss the official opening of the vote, but here's my general preference for the turn vote:

Max + Johann: Investigate. The marginal utility of one last free turn of prep is marginal, and they're the ones with the Wind suited for forensics.

Duckling: Something that will help with the expedition. Either the PanPan mushroom action, or helping Hubert get a familiar.

EIC: Extra investigation. Nothing else is as time-sensitive.

Mathilde:
• Join Expedition Early
• Finish Fog Path (Overwork if needed)

Penthouse: More security, either directly or with firing towers.

Coin: The Protector

Putting it all together, that looks like:

[ ] Plan Redshirt v1
-[ ] MAX: Have him scour all the reference materials at his disposal for any other Dhar-radiating explosive, as well as how difficult it might be for non-Skaven to replicate their blackpowder.
-[ ] JOHANN: Have him investigate the metal evidence taken from the Skull River ambush.
-[ ] DUCK: Aid Hubert in his search for a Familiar.
-[ ] EIC: Have the Hochlander investigate how feasible it would be for a non-Skaven to acquire warpstone-enhanced blackpowder.
-[ ] COIN: The Protector
-[ ] Join the Karag Dum Expedition in Praag, rather than at High Pass.
-[ ] Attempt to complete your 'Fog Path' spell
--[ ] Use Overwork to complete it if necessary.
-[ ] PENTHOUSE: Add security measures to your Penthouse to prevent forcible entry.
Yep, don't see anything i would disagree with here.
Unless someone comes up with a galaxy brain level plan, this is what i will probably vote for.
Sorry Eike, aunty Mathilde has to go meddle in geopolitics for a bit.

Personally, I'm definitely up for inviting Eike over next turn.

[] Plan Expedition preparation + Johann investigation.
You're missing an EIC action from this plan.
[] Plan: Prepare and catch the bastards
Why not include one of the security measures for the Penthouse? The expected value isn't high, but it's literally free.
Death of Rats from Discworld?

I can post your most recent Plan Redshirt when the vote opens, if you like.

I think it's a mistake to use Max for the action, ultimately the information he could bring up probably isn't that important certainly not in comparison to what Johann can find out. He's also much weaker magically than Johann right now and need the chance to train more. A turn of full training is a lot more valuable for max as he's not remotely close to the apex of what can be done as a gold magister.

I'm aware, I haven't decided what I think is most important right now. Probably the EIC action to look into availability of warpstone gunpowder.

I'd assume he'd do it with a measure of discretion. As a Lady Magister I'm almost certain we have the authority to read him in, if he isn't already, and I'm pretty sure he'd be looking for warpstone-enhanced explosives without specifying 'as made by giant anthropomorphic rats' in his investigations.
Point, but I'm concerned that we might get witch hunters after us who doesn't care that he's on order from us

- This concludes my three-month rendition of Immigrant Song in the threadmark names.
Turn 29 - 2484 - They Go to the Land of the Ice and Snow
Turn 30 - 2484.5 - To the Midnight Sun, where the Eight Winds Flow
Turn 31 - 2485 - We'll Ride Steam-Wagons Through Ruined Lands
Turn 32 - 2485.5 - We'll Fight the Hordes, and Sing and Cry
Turn 33 - 2486 - Karag Dum, We Are Coming

Good point. I'd missed that that was was free.

Not impossible, but I doubt it's a significant risk- if it was, then I'm sure BoneyM would have noted it in the option.

EIC action taken.

I don't think we should have Max work on the investigation. Prep time for him is very very valuable as he was only made a magister gold wizard very recently.

Okay, the pun just leapt into my head so, completely besides everything right now I'm looking at the "proactive study of the second secret of Dhar" again and a thought struck me.

If you invented an enchanted object to manipulate magic in real space instead of the soul, and then used it for mucking with dark magic, rather than calling it "tongs," would you instead call these... Dharning needles?

EDIT: Though then again, given it's about the second secret, I suppose it's more for ripping metaphorical holes, than mending them. :V

The risk is still present.
Aside, we're Lady Magister right now. We've got plenty of resources in the grey college to just reach out to them about this since Skaven utilizing humans, or humans utilizing Skaven tech, should be well within their responsibilities.

It's not impossible that such a person exists, but they wouldn't last long before they ended up very dead, and his fellow Witch Hunters might be the ones that do it before a Master Vigilant does.

Sadly, the Grey College is not as omniscient as it likes people to believe it is. They might know about long-established cultists to the Horned Rat or things like that, but they have no way of knowing that somewhere in the Empire, someone just took gold and orders from a stranger in a cloak who smelled odd and had a high-pitched voice.

I was going to say that Waaghsoak mushrooms might not be useful, but the ability to have wind-batteries in an environment where the winds are more like jetstreams does sound quite safe - I just hope that we have time to grow some before we set out - provided they work as I hope.

That said, I really want to invite Adela and Gretel - is there anyone else that is also interested in this?

Looks like we're complete agreement, but my title is better. :p
Eh, at the time @Redshirt Army was posting, your plan was different. You only ninjad him retroactively!

I may be alone in this, but the inclusion of naming the spell in the plan vote kind of bothers me. The way BoneyM has tended to handle naming things is in two stages: first we vote on whether we acquire something in the first place (e.g. developing the bound spells technique, commissioning a 25 favour sword) and after the thing is acquired, we either have a vote on what to name it or he fiats that Mathilde names it herself.

Gretel, at least, seems pretty suited to the expedition; the problem is that we haven't given them time to prepare, so unless they already intended to join the Expedition and have been training on their own time, it feels awkward to ask them right now.

Not really. They already have an open invitation, remember- all the Journeymanlings/Magisters of K8P do- so if they really wanted to come they could have just told us at any point.

Well, one of Warhammer Fantasy's themes is Metal.

Normally I'd agree, but 'Rite of Way' is just too perfect of a name.
As @picklepikkl pointed out, naming will be handled later.
Awww... :(

but like two Kings and more Engineers than you can count, all your attention is fixed on the hole that sunk the ship.

A stylistical proposal @BoneyM
You might want (in the future) to add a sentence or two how Barak Varr even sent its king and ship-related guildmasters prior to this bit, instead of doing the in media res approach.
It would flow better imho, and with proper descriptions add to the atmosphere of the scene, but I admit that my stance might be entirely subjective.

"I'd planned a celebration, but with the attack on the Okral it seems like it would be in poor taste. And speaking of which," he nods to you, "anything you can uncover before it's time for your Expedition will be of great help."

Nooo, my beautiful celebration.
See Belegar, this is why you don't wait for a perfect moment to celebrate, especially in a deathworld.
Life has no brakes and cares not for your puny plans, so take whatever opportunity you can get for festivities.
Hopefully Karak Dum expedition proves enough of a success to give an excuse to party and so to hit two birds with one stone (mine two veins with one pickswing?).

Anyway, the suspects' list is still open, though I think we can safely exclude Druchii at least.
Marienburg being desperate is a possibility, Dawi Zharr as well (though very unlikely, maaaaybe via proxy) and Skaven.

If its Skaven, the relatively low-tech vector of the sabotage suggests a non-Skryre clan.
Could be Eshin, as they are crafty enough to hire human patsies.
Could be a Warlord clan, as they tend to be versatile, whether the remnants of the Mors or some other player.

I am not prepared to disavow Marienburg just yet, Barak Varr and Karaz-a-Karak being too busy with Skaven to back-up Empire against it would suit them just fine, plus it wouldn't surprise me in the least for Marienburg's underbelly to have Skaven agents in place, among others.
