Sooo...
Preliminary plan
[ ] Plan "Screw Skaven"
- [ ] The Protector
- [ ] MAX: Have him scour all the reference materials at his disposal for any other Dhar-radiating explosive, as well as how difficult it might be for non-Skaven to replicate their blackpowder.
- [ ] JOHANN: Have him investigate the metal evidence taken from the Skull River ambush. (NEW)
- [ ] DUCK: Aid Hubert in his search for a Familiar.
- [ ] EIC: Have the Hochlander investigate how feasible it would be for a non-Skaven to acquire warpstone-enhanced blackpowder. (NEW)
- [ ] PENTHOUSE: No additional construction.
- [ ] Join the Karag Dum Expedition in Praag, rather than at High Pass. (NEW)
- [ ] Attempt to complete your 'Fog Path' spell (NEW-ish)
-- [ ] Use overwork if necessary

I'm ambivalent on DUCK and Penthouse actions, and on any other turn I would vote for Eike in EIC, but needs must.

Rough plan idea for the coming turn:

[] Plan: Prepare and catch the bastards
-[] MAX: Have him scour all the reference materials at his disposal for any other Dhar-radiating explosive, as well as how difficult it might be for non-Skaven to replicate their blackpowder. (NEW)
-[] JOHANN: Have him investigate the metal evidence taken from the Skull River ambush. (NEW)
-[] DUCK: Work with Panoramia to try to implement the Waaaghsoak Mushrooms as an aid to spellcasting.
-[] EIC: Have the Hochlander investigate how feasible it would be for a non-Skaven to acquire warpstone-enhanced blackpowder. (NEW)
-[] Join the Karag Dum Expedition in Praag, rather than at High Pass. (NEW)
-[] Attempt to complete your 'Fog Path' spell (NEW-ish)
--[] Use an overwork action on this if needed to complete it before the expedition.
--[] Name the spell 'Rite of Way'
-[] PENTHOUSE: No additional construction.
-[] The Protector

Basically, it focuses all available action on finishing our expedition prep and figuring out who was behind the Okral attack. The action where that isn't possible, I picked waaaghsoak because I don't want to recruit the ducklings if they're not already going, and it might help in Karak Dum (a low-level but constant source of magic is going to be safer than tapping the big rivers, if we can get it working in time). I didn't pick anything for the penthouse because I'm not sure we need anything else right now, and the coin is on protector for obvious reasons.

Max and Johann to look for evidence i think.
Not sure on duckling, but i don't want to recruit anyone else away from K8P at the moment.
Either put Hochlander to look for evidence of bring Eike to see dwarves, leaning towards Hochlander atm.
Finish Fogpath, use overwork if we have to.
And use the protector, this is the mandatory part, everything else is merely extremely important.

Oh good, all the tunnels and passageways underneath Karak Eight Peaks did get filled in and filled out and defended. That was critical to do, and will make it much easier to defend K8P in the future.

I'd like to get even more of a feel and picture for what Karak Eight Peaks looks like, now. What the difference between the just-won-the-Karakbowl-battle looked like and what it looks like now. Hoo boy, that's exciting. Do the mountains now look like proper Dwarf cities and forts now?

It would be lonely and empty, but and so melancholy and solitary from that... but. But, they would not look like war zones or hastily reinforced defenses or cleared-out zones.

Karak Eight Peaks.

Does it look like a proper Dwarf kingdom now? Internally and externally? :)
Belegar notices your approach and wraps up the conversation before coming over to you. "Near as I can tell, there were about five hundred and fifty aboard the ship when it went down," he says. "Only twenty reached the shore. You just added three hundred and twelve to that tally."
550 Dwarfs on a ship, 20 reached shore, 312 rescued, 15 rescued... A total of 347 rescued out of 550.

So about 203 Dwarfs just died here. Oof. Some of this would have been crew, but some would have been the passenger Okral, master craftsmen.
"Not a bad night's work," you say, trying to resist the urge to speculate how much larger that number would be if you'd cleared every compartment.
:( Yeah.

How many could we have rescued if we'd kept at it? How many died in the time period between our calling off rescue, and Barak Varr getting here? I'm actually guessing... little. I think we saved all that might have easily been saved. The 15 might have been all that was left and saveable, and if we'd gotten involved (and succeeded rather than died because wow we were quite tired) we'd have gotten maybe another dozen or half dozen more at most. Rather than the hypothetical 'could be as many as 50.' But it still sucks and feels bad!

[] Plan: SQUEAK.
-[ ] MAX: Have him scour all the reference materials at his disposal for any other Dhar-radiating explosive, as well as how difficult it might be for non-Skaven to replicate their blackpowder. (NEW)

-- [ ] Use overwork if necessary
-[] Join the Karag Dum Expedition in Praag, rather than at High Pass.
-[ ] PENTHOUSE: Add security measures to your Penthouse to prevent forcible entry.
-[ ] The Protector

This would be my thoughts on a plan. Bonus points if you get the title reference.

Not that I'm arguing against investigating, but I imagine someone Will be pointing out anyways that Boney already made it clear a lot of people will be doing everything they can to figure this out.

-[] EIC: Have the Hochlander investigate how feasible it would be for a non-Skaven to acquire warpstone-enhanced black powder. (NEW)
I will say I'm not too keen on letting the Hochlander investigate Skaven, it's stomping quite hard on The Conspiracy.
Otherwise I'd support this plan.

[] Plan: Last Minute
-[] MAX: Allow him to spend all his time on his own preparations.
-[] JOHANN: Have him investigate the metal evidence taken from the Skull River ambush.

The Hochlander is still a wizard. Even if they don't go out of their way to have every member know about the Skaven, wizards are still very much in the category of acceptable. The grey even do that hidden memories thing.

The Empire has just fought two big attacks on weakened Skaven-holdings, they could easily have captured gunpowder.

In fact, I suspect Skaven-stuff might be easier to get for anyone looking to buy in the Empire than it has been for a long time.

I feel like taking the "[ ] Join the Karag Dum Expedition in Praag, rather than at High Pass. (NEW)" action is kind of mandatory this turn. =/

Gah, if only we had more time or if this hadn't happened now...

The only person that can do something with the investigation that matters is Johann via his ability to see stuffs creation. Maxs time is wasted to be frank over preparing for the expedition as he's less puisant than Johann as a wizard and therefore needs more time to prepare.

Oh look. The EIC options have gotten interesting. Curses!

Anyway, I'm in favor of any plans with a conditional Fog-Path Overwork.

Bare bones:

Johann: investigating the metal evidence
Max I think should be training, (but I might be convinced on the new research action, if the plan has everything else I want)
Duck: Recruit Gretel and Adela for the Karag Dum Expedition. OR Each of your three ducklings can fight in melee. Spar with them, and teach them what you can.
EIC: cry in "want to do all things"

Two actions:
[ ] Join the Karag Dum Expedition in Praag, rather than at High Pass.
[ ] Attempt to complete your 'Fog Path' spell
--[] if we fail to complete Fog Path, use overwork to try again

[ ] Penthouse: Have a tower built atop Karag Nar OR Have additional rooms excavated underneath your Penthouse
[ ] The Protector -

Unfortunate that we can't work on our sword-style this turn due to only having two actions, but... ah well.

My thinking here is that we should take "Have firing platforms built around the Penthouse so that it can be defended from flyers or climbers without granting access to it." If worst comes to worst, this will give the Karak a place to defend the summit from while leaving the Penthouse itself locked down.
Always best to build some more security measures while we're away, don't like the idea of Gorfang paying our tower a visit since he somehow got in Karak Azul in canon.

-[ ] JOHANN: Have him investigate the metal evidence taken from the Skull River ambush. (NEW)
-[ ] DUCK: Panoramia's about ready to test for Magister, but she's putting it off because she doesn't have a lot of free time to prepare. Work with her to help make the most of every spare minute.
-[ ] EIC: Have the Hochlander investigate how feasible it would be for a non-Skaven to acquire warpstone-enhanced blackpowder. (NEW)
-[ ] Attempt to complete your 'Fog Path' spell (NEW-ish)
-[ ] With the help of a gyrocarriage, personally scout part of the route (specify: Karag Dum vicinity)
-[ ] PENTHOUSE: Add security measures to your Penthouse to prevent forcible entry.
-[ ] The Protector

This would be my thoughts on a plan. Bonus points if you get the title reference.
Maybe add potential overwork (if needed) on fog path, just to be sure, i think Boney pre approved that for this occasion.
Not sure if we can scout Karag Dum vicinity without being seen by the people we made a deal with.

Not that I'm arguing against investigating, but I imagine someone Will be pointing out anyways that Boney already made it clear a lot of people will be doing everything they can to figure this out.
At the same time, we were first responders, this happened on the return from K8P, and we have materials and direct insight that other parties don't. We're not obligated to look into the matter, it's true, but we're a source dwarves will trust and we have advantages over a lot of other investigators.

Always best to build some more security measures while we're away, don't like the idea of Gorfang paying our tower a visit since he somehow got in Karak Azul in canon.
Eh, Cython would miss our library if our tower was taken over. I reckon he could be convinced to help defend it.

I'm going to be incommunicado later on today, so I'm probably going to miss the official opening of the vote, but here's my general preference for the turn vote:

Max + Johann: Investigate. The marginal utility of one last free turn of prep is marginal, and they're the ones with the Wind suited for forensics.

Duckling: Something that will help with the expedition. Either the PanPan mushroom action, or helping Hubert get a familiar.

EIC: Extra investigation. Nothing else is as time-sensitive.

Mathilde:
• Join Expedition Early
• Finish Fog Path (Overwork if needed)

Penthouse: More security, either directly or with firing towers.

Coin: The Protector

Putting it all together, that looks like:

[ ] Plan Redshirt v1
-[ ] MAX: Have him scour all the reference materials at his disposal for any other Dhar-radiating explosive, as well as how difficult it might be for non-Skaven to replicate their blackpowder.
-[ ] JOHANN: Have him investigate the metal evidence taken from the Skull River ambush.
-[ ] DUCK: Aid Hubert in his search for a Familiar.
-[ ] EIC: Have the Hochlander investigate how feasible it would be for a non-Skaven to acquire warpstone-enhanced blackpowder.
-[ ] COIN: The Protector
-[ ] Join the Karag Dum Expedition in Praag, rather than at High Pass.
-[ ] Attempt to complete your 'Fog Path' spell
--[ ] Use Overwork to complete it if necessary.
-[ ] PENTHOUSE: Add security measures to your Penthouse to prevent forcible entry.

I'd assume he'd do it with a measure of discretion. As a Lady Magister I'm almost certain we have the authority to read him in, if he isn't already, and I'm pretty sure he'd be looking for warpstone-enhanced explosives without specifying 'as made by giant anthropomorphic rats' in his investigations.
