[X] Scour the river banks for anything the bandits left behind
[X] Try to track the bandits

If this is a false flag operation, I'm not sure we can trust anything we find from searching the banks, except possibly a magically-traced history of the explosives themselves.

[X] Return to shore and guard the Okral
[X] Try to track the bandits
[X] Scour the river banks for anything the bandits left behind
[X] Scout for any approaching greenskin forces

I'll take any option except the ones with a significant chance of insta-death, thanks.

Marienberg doesn't have the combination of material science and shenanigans to produce a mine of that power.

Marienburg has a dwarf population, its own College of magic and has been expecting to engage the Empire in coastal and riverine warfare since about 10 minutes after it gained independence. Not only do I believe that they could create sea mine they might well sell them on the market.

The flipside of that being, it's completely possible for Marienburg to use a non-Marienburg weapon to avoid suspicion, while a non-Marienburg party could use a Marienburg weapon or even a cutout that runs through Marienburg to divert suspicion.

If Marienburg does sell sea mines, which does seem likely, I hope they're prepared for when the Karaz Ankor rolls up and demands to see the lists of people they've sold to.

Because whoever bombed the steamer, that's probably going to happen, and even if they weren't the actor in question Marienburg could buy themselves a grudge when it does.

Okay, in retrospect, me asking the thread if Morse code is a thing was hilarious. I figured it likely someone had asked, but I didn't expect Boney to have answered that exact question like 10 times at least lol.

This update was great. I love how the rescue appears to others looking in too:

"Grey Wizard rolls up, asks for angry dwarfs to set up some shade for her, theN proceeds to somehow teleport 300+ dwarfs with a boulder and a length of chain."

I bet most of Okral desperately want to grumble about zhuf nonsense but don't want to appear unhappy about saving so many survivors! Can you imagine the mixed feelings? Hilarious.

The only other idea I can think of for further rescue (other than the Morse bandwagon) is to use an Ulgu PS to super charge Pall of Darkness thru the steel of the ship. I don't know what radius such a spell would have though. Depends on how many sealed doors are near each other. We'd only get one cast of PoD though so probably not worth it. Unless it was huge and covered several compartments.

Random question, but do we get our free paper next turn? I can't remember, and was wondering what we should do for that if we do. It would be hilarious if we continued our pattern of choosing absolutely random things to write about and make our first paper after becoming LM a treatise on terrain obstacles, or coins since we do have that one dynasty that was just a paper's worth. Why was that again?

Only one guy in that dynasty.

Still not convinced we are up to the task even with a powerstone.

asking if mathilde can use dwarf morse code to contact the trapped metalworkers: boring, passé, uninspired

asking if mathilde can use dwarf war yodelling to contact the trapped metalworkers: new, exciting, sublime genius
Hey, the monitor is underwater, right? This would've been an ideal opportunity for Dragon-Gargling to communicate with any trapped drakes, you'd think.
If Marienburg does sell sea mines
Coat of arms is a mermaid, right? And while not quite impossible, it's harder to speak to communicate underwater.

See mimes mine sea shell mines she sells on the sea floor.
She sells sea mines on the sea floor.

Ooh. The PS Illusion is a good idea. I think people are inflating the risks of the rescue a bit too. There's maybe 50 dwarfs max left to rescue and they are all behind sealed doors.

We only need to rescue the ones that can't wait for Barak Varr S&R, so probably more like 20-30 dwarfs. Compare to 300, that is significantly less. So I'm going to have to go with:

[X] Use your spare Power Stone to save any Dwarves left in the ship

This wikipedia article on naval mines has some interesting stuff about their historical development.

It appears to be doable with Warhammer Fantasy human technology, but not terribly reliable. You'd have to get pretty lucky to sink a ship the first time you set one off (as opposed to floating a bunch and setting them all off). Human artifice would seem a lot more credible if there had been a dozen explosions instead of just one.

I'm baffled by people picking this, to be honest.

'Finding stuff left behind on the beach' is the least time-sensitive pick and definitely something that can wait until morning.

Quote from the first vote:

- You can only choose one thing to do right now; there might be opportunity to do more later, but with every passing moment the tracks get fainter, evidence could be washed away, and any greenskins could get closer.

The Skull River is very fast-moving, as has been mentioned several times. If there are bomb fragments embedded in the shallows near the bank, it may be only a matter of time until the river is able to dislodge or bury them.

Assuming, of course, that the greenskins don't show up.

At which point, the only things we'll find on the shore are evidence of orcs and goblins.
Sure, if between now and dawn greenskins attack this particular stretch of beach in enough numbers to overpower multiple monitor ships, K8P's entire complement of gyrocopters and Mathilde, we might lose out on whatever evidence the bandits left behind.

Since that that chance seems remote, to say the least, I'm going to bail against the tide:
[X] Try to track the bandits
[X] Use your spare Power Stone to save any Dwarves left in the ship

Or, y'know, a scouting party shows up and takes potshots, or loots scrap from the shoreline.

That'd be enough to make it impossible to tell what came from the mercs and what came from the greenskins.

We can't tell what type are behind the door until we check.
