Actually, since you mentioned Kragg, I had another idea. Its an even longest shot, but... can we Zhuff Logic the steel?
Zhuf logic applied to the earth after almost a Million greenskins died in the same instant, leaving reality more malleable as they left the realm of souls. Reality here is pretty damn solid, considering there is mostly Chamon around.

@BoneyM - do the spells Marsh Lights, Sound, or even just Illusion need you to actually physically see them to cast them successfully? Particularly as Mathilde has windsight, so the spell itself should create sufficent Ulgu presence to see it? Could we just cast them through the wall and create sounds or lights to inform the dwarves of what we intend to do?

You would need to cast them with enough power to get through the ambient Chamon of the metal. Mathilde might be able to try that on the surface since there's enough of a moon to cast shadows, but there's no Ulgu inside the ship to draw on.

Knowing whether or not they're occupied doesn't help if you don't have a way into them.
No, but don't tell me the Dawi don't have something like a morse code that we could use. Its exactly something miners might use. Tapping patterns on something is consistent enough way of basic communication in lot of cultures that there should be something. If nothing else, at least it lets us establish there is someone in there.

EDIT. Sorry then, my bad. Seems weird that this is a guild secret tbh.

Will it improve the chances for detection and rescue once barak varr gets here?

Mathilde wouldn't know, but I'll say no.

Miners do. These aren't miners.

Take it up with GW.

Wouldn't this be where the Ulgu powerstones come into play though as their explicit purpose?

Power stones can boost a spell, but they're expended in doing so.

So, did anyone ask how fast can we get Johann here yet? Could he feasibly attempt the "write into the other side of this steel wall" trick with chamon? Probably not right, since his magic sucks. Ugh.

What if we'd been carrying some AV somehow? Could we have expended that to manage it?
[Yes, I'm wondering if we should add "rune-flask capable of safely containing a little AV" to our purchase list for situations like these]
