@BoneyM How close are our four towers actually to each other? If you stood on the mountain between them, could you touch the walls of any two towers at the same time?

This seems wrong, given Mathilde is queen of building-random-tower-because-I-can... or rather -because-dwarf-can. What's she up to? 6 towers? 7 now?
Still 4. The Grey Tower with they Eye of Gazul. The White Tower with all the neutral and non-Wind research aid. The Blue Tower that clears the weather and shoots lightning. And the Red Tower that for now just creates a giant burning orb to replace the sun during the night.

Nah, she allready compensated for that by deciding to live among Dwarfs and Halflings. There is a decent chance she is the tallest person in the room, at any given moment.
Well, she tried to become relatively tall by joining the K8P expedition... but then all the Undumgi and Ulrikadrin and Ducklings absolutely ruined it by settling there as well. So she has to build towers to pretend she's taller than others at least some of the time.

She practically has a mountain to herself. I'm sure she's the tallest in the room quite often :)

You have to remember that, for all her Mathilde'ness, Mathilde is still just an umgi. Her compensation is not as stable as that of the Dawi, so she has to make several reduncies to make sure she never feels inadequate.
Surely dawi would be more likely to have backup compensatory devices than umgi, knowing as they do the value of proper engineering and safety systems?

Actually, i think you have it the wrong way around.

Mathilde is an Umgi, so normally, she would compensate once and be done with it.

But the dwarf infection is strong. So she has to make sure that her point comes across clearly.

First the greatsword, then living amongst dwarfs, and finally a bunch of towers. Unfortunately, there are still tall people around, so the account never feels settled.

Hmm, Mathilde hasn't always been as Mathilde as she is today. Her current greatsword spends most of its time not compensating, because it doesn't actually exist. She clearly has less need for it.

Her current greatsword doesn't exist most of the time, so she compensates with EVEN MORE TOWERS
She's also got a fancy staff now.

Of course, there's no better way to compensate than riding a giant fuckoff dragon. Ok, that's wrong. You could ride a giant fuckoff magic dragon wizard.
Ok, that's also wrong. The best thing is to ride a giant fuckoff magic book nerd dragon wizard.
