If it does like us... I still want a a romantic partner that Mathilde can have a satisfying physically intimate relationship with, to put it in the least crude way possible.
Our Mathilde deserves to be able to put into practice all the theory she's read! I'm likewise not too keen on the dragon for this reason.

Romance slate makes far too much sense in terms of efficiency. It's a bit too meta-reasoned for my taste, but the logic is also far too sound.

Believe me, I'd have preferred that we do the much more sensible 2/2/2 spread rather than 2/0/4 spread, but last turn the social turn options were way too good. Getting-to-know-you actions were in competition with "finding out what the fuck was going on with the conspiracy," "meeting the leaders of our expedition," "t-posing on the colleges," and "getting input on the Marienburg not-a-war." We had no chance. This turn, there's nothing particularly special or time-sensitive in the list of possibilities, so romance has the chance to get off the ground. Once we've checked out all six, then we can focus our efforts and return to a more sane balance of our time.

I agree it's awkward on a narrative level, but also, like... these characters aren't necessarily going to wait for us to get to them. The nobles are under pressure to get hitched. And it would really bum people out to lose by default: I mean, it sucks to lose a vote, but losing by default, because you took too long to even check in on them and that character got sniped, really creates bad feels.

Well it's a shame that we have so much less time than we thought we were voting for.

People thought that choices were 2/4/6 turns of full prep. They were actually half/two.five/four.five

There's 10 actions to spend before we leave, five of them are categorically locked on scouting and recruiting. Leaving five at most for other things, Melkoths and Robes are musts. Leaving three. Arcane mark control is a must as well due to drawing in warpstone and other toxic particles in the air towards Mathilde. The pall of darkness action is also another one we'd be crazy not to do and lastly a number of people have stated we should get at least one action in with the new style creation for our sword so that it's able to proc during adventures.

What do you cut from all of this to do the coins?
Arcane mark control, 100%

Everyone in the expedition is going out into a toxic place, we can breath through a cloth if need be. The belt will prevent warpstone problems, and for anything that does get though the cloth, we can get healing from the seed or our Light Healing Thingy.

I think what we should do is make a number of plan variants, but have the name include "dropping X" for easy comparison :)

As per usual, likely to add/subtract later as votes solidify (if nothing else i'm likely to approval vote for the other untouched romances even if i personally don't like them, depending on which votes are actually in contention for the cutoff point

Let there be peace in our house. Clearing obstacles for the thread so we can actually start the shipping war. Truly the fair solution must lead to war.

Also I am very amused (to the extent I gave you a Funny) that of course @Omegahugger gave you a Hugs because of the "taking too long and character getting sniped" bit.

Speaking as someone who truly doesn't care about the coins, I think you're being a bit pessimistic.

We assumed we had one more turn than we actually did, yes - but everybody also neglected to account for the half-turn we get on our turn of departure while discussing hypothetical plans. Throw in a second Overwork on that turn, and we lose precisely 1 AP compared to what the 2486 plan-makers assumed we would have:

Turn 31
Action 1:
Action 2:
Action 3:
Action 4:
Johann:
Max:
Duck:
EIC:

Turn 32
Action 1:
Action 2:
Action 3:
Action 4:
Overwork 1:
Johann:
Max:
Duck:
EIC:

Turn 33
Action 1:
Action 2:
Action 3: Expedition (LOCKED)
Action 4: Expedition (LOCKED)
Overwork 2:
Johann?
Max?
Duck?
EIC?

Where the second Overwork action would impose a -10 penalty to our T34 actions and no penalty to our T35 actions, which is when our next penalty-free Overwork slot would open. Given that we're going to Hell, worth.

And with that many actions, fitting the coins in becomes wildly plausible.
Turn 31
Action 1: Learn MMM (Coin)
Action 2: Control Arcane Mark (Mist)
Action 3: Recruit Runesmiths/(Light College?)
Action 4: Scout 1
Johann: (Prep?)
Max: (Prep?)
Duck: Recruit Hubert
EIC: (???)

Turn 32
Action 1: Craft Robes (Coin)
Action 2: Scout 2
Action 3: Scout 3
Action 4: Scout 4
Overwork 1: Coins
Johann: (Prep?)
Max: (Prep?)
Duck: Recruit Ambers
EIC: (???)

Turn 33
Action 1: Start Branulhune Style
Action 2: See through Pall of Darkness
Action 3: Expedition (LOCKED)
Action 4: Expedition (LOCKED)
Overwork 2: (Retry an action we previously failed)
Johann?
Max?
Duck?
EIC?

So when T32 rolls around, there will be space to fit the coins in. The only question is whether the coin lobby will drum up the votes to do so.

Okay now remind me again how tight you think the weave of clothes created are because if you're expecting a face mask made of cloth from the technology level of the societies that Mathilde is dealing with I don't know what to say. Maybe I'm wrong but I suspect that clothe of the period would be useless for what you're suggesting for anything properly dangerous.

Pall of Darkness is now one of our best potential stealth abilities because it can be scaled up hugely to blanket an entire room in darkness due to our staff, if we can see through we can trivially make our enemies completely blind. You're right one action into the sword style wont give us any immediate benefit but it probably does mean it could improve in the expedition.
RL has been pretty conclusive - random scarf/shirt/whatever wrapped around a face is pretty darn effective at blocking passage for the supermajority of particles. We don't need literal gas masks, otherwise everybody else in the expedition would die from inhaling trace amounts of whatever crap is in the air.

We could always do a sensible 2/0/2/0/2 split - it'd just mean Mathilde's romantic urges cycle in and out with the spring/new year.

"We have considered this since we first heard from you," Ljiljana says. "There are a number of prices that are between we and the Karzełki, but there is one we will have from you. We have old business in the east, with our fallen cousins of the Kurgan. An item we want from one of their tribes that lives near this Karzełki tirsa of Karag Dum. We shall send someone with this Expedition who can find the tribe and the item, and you are to aid them, and you are to bring the item to us. Agree to this, and the Widow will shield the Karzełki from dying cold and hungry in the Raspotitsa."
Oooh, a mysterious sidequest! I would like more info but I can't say I didn't plan on raiding any acceptable targets on the way. Well I guess Ranald better take the wheel cause we are about to do some stealing to do boys!

Also I would just like to note that they asked us to fin the tribe, the item and bring it back to them... not specifically to give it to them. Probably nothing we should need to use but if it turns out this 'item' is something problematic it is a useful fiction to have in our arsenal.
. From there they travelled further west to Nordland, where thankfully he was not hired to get involved in the whole Laurelorn business, but instead kept travelling west... which gives you a sinking feeling in your gut.
Uh-oh!
He looks up in surprise, and a smile spreads across his face as he leaps effortlessly to his feet. "The silver savage from Sylvania!" You almost take offence to that, before realizing that it's what Ma-thil would translate closest to in Eltharin. "What offer brings you to this swamp village? One from your Emperor?"
So 'the silver savage' going to be our new elf nickname then? I suppose given we will be heading to Nagarythe the 'savage' part will make apt but how will we explain the silver? Should we start wearing lighter robes?
"Sounds good to me," Asarnil says. "I like Marienburg's money, but this whole thing smells far too much like one of Finubar's schemes for my liking, and it's been too long since we've been able to test ourselves against the forces of Chaos. Which Dwarfhold?"

"Karak Kadrin."

"Oh, them. Every time I go there, Deathfang gets weird looks from a bunch of half-naked Dwarves, like they're starving dogs looking at a banquet. We'll make ourselves comfortable in Bechafen until we're needed."
Once again Magister Mathilde demonstrate her incredible diplomatic skills worthy of a Magister of the Grey Order! Cunningly denying Marienburg a critical weapon but also using it in a clever manner to strength the diplomatic position of the empire by using having him aid the dwarves on a far off expedition. Truly a diplomatic genius!

God I can't wait for the Chamberlain of the Seal Nega-verse of this! All Mathilde's actions make it seem like this is the work of a decade long master plan since she started the EIC as spymaster of Stirland to empower both herself and the Empire. Meanwhile the true mastermind here if anyone is Ranald since the EIC has always been more of a side project that a number of chance factors have brought to center stage while we pull the usual Grey Wizard trick of sitting back and looking smug no matter what happens.

We wield a Gromril Greatsword, wear a Gromril Belt, and hold a staff of bone which emits silvery fog. I'd say we're pretty covered on that front.

Pretty sure empire could do small scale trains, not enough to make city to city transportation to work, but hauling produce from one side of a city to another.
Could be useful for moving large amounts of goods uphill as well in places.
Also mining operations, though not sure if empire has any mines deep enough to be worth it.
Biggest issue with using trains is not the rails, it's the cost.
Because without long rail network, it is not worth it to use an expensive locomotive, but a magic boiler could lighten the wieght enough to make most of the train from hardwood instead of iron (think steam cars instead of locomotives).
Horse drawn wagons are perfectly viable.
