I'm honestly suprised Belegar landed so low on the romance list. Though I concure, he's a great friend, but she's got a thing for taller beings.Well I mean we could have been Queen. It's still technically on the cards "Transcendent boon: Marry me" Queen Mathilde. :3

Technically we already have our own fief back in Stirland, though I doubt it would work as well. How hard would it be to buy some of the Border Princes, anyway? Because that sounds expensive. You know, we could try to buy some of the Border Princes never K8P and set up and sponsor research town there for the college, where they can do stuff that needs exploding space without bothering anyone. (but don't run it.) e.g what the USA does in Nevada.
that way we have a legitimate excuse to be calling ourselves Wizard Princess Mathy.
and the college will just mostly roll their eyes at the latest wizard quirk they need to humour instead of getting worried about us having ideas.

Actualy I remenber Boney saying a quick visit would be fine, is staying long term that would be a problem, so there is no problem if the plan is to go once, maybe twice. One actually reasonable use for a flying dreadnought would be a relatively secure way of travelling to Cathay, and bringing back piles of shinies - including magic shinies. The only problem is that it would be hard to justify not going along with it at least the first time, and Boney's said they don't want to have to do detailed worldbuilding for Cathay/Nippon, IIRC.
So... why would we want any? If it's that indefensible, at least.Very cheap, the land is crap, it's indefensible and there's usually no one living on it.

It feels like a big prize that we could take, if only we could come up with a clever trick to disarm the massive trap it really is.
I think it's the "mold it in our image" factor? Even if we have tons of power at K8P, we're still working with someone else's culture and under Belegar's notional sovereignty. The Border Princes, on the other hand, are more of a blank slate for someone to shape as they see fit from the ground up.

exactly, its worthless for living on, (like Nevada) but it's a great place for a testing zone for things that might( probably) go boom. (Like Nevada)Very cheap, the land is crap, it's indefensible and there's usually no one living on it, if you want to setup a college campus for research collaboration then do it in K8P where it's defended by the dwarves and numerous super weapons.

I mean, we could probably fortify the place with enough time and effort, especially if we burnt a lot of favor, but that just seems excessive and we would have to worry about Orcs in the meantime.
To be fair, this was entirely more reasonable when our job was still in Stirland.
I mean, Bok is K8P's, Kragg is not against other runesmiths discovering secrets he also has discovered independently, and the seviriscope, even if it cannot be mass produced, willbe ours. Assuming it cannot be mass produced after it is researched (big assumption, the obstacle is the research, not the difficulty of making one), we can just institute a policy of "any runesmith on K8Ps can use it, any runelord takes priority over a runesmith, , but it is still ours and so they'll be technically borrowing it for their research and they'll have to return it during any moment they are not using it". That way Thorek can use it while Kragg isn't using it and vice versa, we can interfere if anyone uses foul play to stonewall the other's research, and they can both research Bok independently, and we won't be picking sides, and as a bonus we may even attract more runesmiths/rulnelords and earn more runesmith favour by lending our machine.
Anything he discovers or rediscovers is his to share or not share as he sees fit. If pressed, Kragg is likely to say something like that if anyone doesn't like that, they can get Thorek to look at it and rejoice in the absolutely nothing he is able to discover, and in the nothingness he passes down to the Apprentices, of which he has more than beard hairs, which speaks so much of his lack of discernment that no more needs to be said on the matter.

Towers and dwarf built walls. Like I said, it would take excessive amounts of effort, but theoretically possible. Obscurity is a good defense too though. Almost wonder if we couldn't find a good way to reinforce that with magic. It's a wide open plain with no naturally defensible points outside of rivers which tens-hundreds of miles away. The lack of natural defensible barriers means that the only real defense would be obscurity.
