Look, imagine you're building a door to keep out a marauding band of murderers.

If you had the option between two materials to use for that door, would you use stone? Or soft clay? Thorgrim is sure clay has some purpose. It makes a nice pot, he supposes. But for a door, you need a dwarf stone.
This nice thing about this metaphor is, that for some fortifications, clay could be better. Stone shatters when struck hard. Clay deforms, but that doesn't matter if you have enough, and the whole structure won't catastrophically fail, no matter how hard you strike it.

Ninjas, Rakshas, Ki...

Who knows, we know so little about them.

Ah well I suppose I'll just have to content myself for pushing for Karak raiding.

Publishing the Skaven insights first, between the dictionaries and our insights into how they fight and how to fight them we could revolutionise the empire's approach to Skaven...and by that I mean create one.
I meant in character.
We have the skaven books, and until something comes up ingame no point in starting to find out stuff about places on the otherside of the world when we already don't have enough time.

Yes but BoneyM has said that they don't want to do the world building for all that. Understandably given they would be stating from the ground up which is a huge amount of work.

Awww hell yes! And right after I posted an appeal too. Your timing is great!

"Nai, this is a news too big to ignore. A tally can be made later." Slowly, Thyk of Clan Huzkul rose, his snow white beard camouflaging him as equally well as the cloak. "The difference between a hundred thousand and five hundred thousands would not matter to us, they are too large."

Love the image of the white cloak blending in with the white beard, and loved the way you described their hiding and communication. Dwarven rangers haven't gotten enough love since the prince left, it's great to get some names and faces.

"These are Dwarves we're working with. Our moves will be like the mountains themselves. Deliberate, and measured. Take some rest too, no sense in being too tired when we're not yet ordered to move."

Lol. Like, I love it, it's even true since we kept them for the third hour push (I think) into under citadel, but the contrast between that and the blitzkrieg to come is excellent, and makes me want the 'After' versions of each of these.

"I'll go to the Undumgi." Hubert said first. Familiar grounds, everyone figured. Soizic is a known factor and the affinity the Ulrican had would help much.

"I'll take to the gyrocopter pads." Familiar grounds for Adela as well. To be sure, many of the Dwarven Engineers do not approve of the Bright Journeywoman but being vouched personally by Gotri in manners of dangerous prototyping meant that at the least, the worst of the looks she received is one of wariness and pitying respect.

"I'll..." Every other wizards looks at Gretel who paused. "I'll do what I do best then"

Gretel remains best girl and I badly want to take her on adventures.

I like that even though this is mainly just the ducklings going where we knew they had affinities, you managed to capture the anxiousness and gravity they were feeling. The question as the opener really helped that, I think.

Plus it gets me the Knight and her Wizard, and grease-monkey bright wizard which I'm becoming very fond of as archtypes. :)

Johann merely shook his head with good natured exasperation, smiling as he entered in, "Whatever you say, Journeymanling."

Johann-sempai is too cool and I love the way Max sasses him.

Two thumbs up!

I know and I'm speculating.

I suppose its buried frustration at GW more than anything.

As for Thorgrim... ... Honestly, I just assumed that the reason his letter talked about 25,000 Dwarfs was because those 25,000 Dwarfs were what he cared about?
AFAICT, 25k dwarfs is just about right for the number of dwarfs who went on the expedition to reclaim K8P, weren't confirmed dead, and didn't return to some other part of the Karaz Ankor once it was all said and done.

He said it could house up to 1 million orcs. Not necessarily that it did right now.
Well, assuming that Snotlings take up about 1/4 the space an orc does (about true physically but might claim less free/personal space between them) then about 60% of Karak Drazh's maximum possible population is currently running headlong towards a meat grinder.

mmm...

Assuming we don't end up dead I hope we see more journeymen and magisters come out this way, if for no other reason to check up on the badland's waystones.

...Also hope some crazy beast wizards come out looking for Wyverns.

Well that or the Beast Mage who tried to do that refute to the We paper will come down in order to study them so that he can make a proper counter paper....only for him to end up getting completely enthralled studying the We and becoming a Spider focused Beast Mage.

New order of the Amber College, insect wizards...

Actually that'd probably be a pretty effective area if they could create spells for it.

Well to be fair if you want to develop spells inspired by Insects then the We is a good place to start, at the very least I can see such a wizard developing his mastery of a shapeshifting spell to turn into a giant spider with the ultimate expression being an Arachnarok Spider equivalent.

That means this might be possible....
*jumps on massive arachnarok carrying gobbos*
I'm the Kaptin now.

It's mere happy coincidence :V It certainly took me aback of your call for more omake after I pressed the Post button.

Different rangers will be popping up in this set of stories. The viewpoint of the most unorthodox of the Dawi by profession is something that is interesting to try and write.

The Braganzans are honestly a treat to take a crack at writing, if only to contrast them to the milling Mercenaries taken along for the ride with Kazador. Anton couldn't have rolled a better number than 2 on the d100 for them :V
Johann-sempai is too cool and I love the way Max sasses him.
Max's drama queen attitude is something that I find amusing and fits his Diplomacy 7. Him flexing on Johann is but normal. Also, you can scroll at the Khazalid to reveal their meaning.
@Vocalend I love your Omake but you got your Winds of Magic mixed up. The Ice Dragon uses the Lore of Light, Hysh, and Hubert uses the Lore of Heavens, Azyr. :)
Well, darn, there goes that line. Am editing that. Thank you for the reminder.

If the We turn out to be a single soul in many bodies, I can see the ultimate spell actually being transforming into a full colony.

Speaking of, we really should find the time to look into the communication of the We so that we can finally write the book on it. With the disappearance of a large chunk of their food supply we probably ought to set something up to ensure they don't scamper off or declare an end to the many-food alliance anyway, and knowing the practical distance limits of their hive mind is crucial for determining how widely they can range looking for food without needing to leave.

Well the plan right now is to buy all the silk they make.
First by providing them with food, while keeping track of the silk we get so we can pay a proper price when they understand things like money better.

Specifically it also tells us if we can use the one individual-colony we have to settle the Skaven ingress points (assuming they are distributed across a few mountains), or if we need to plan for encouraging them to move to the locales of Under Karagril.

We have options for providing them with food, with the current most convenient one being the Karak Drazh underway connection.

I am up for just filling the underways with nests of intelligent giant spiders. It doesn't matter where you burrow in if there's giant spiders there to notice you and report your presence through spider radio.

Actually, hey, spider radio. The end points are We with that Amber spell on them so they can relay words, and spread out We-nests can be used to carry the signal. When they reach the end of one We's range, they can just pass it on to the next one. The Dwarves could pay them to keep a few bodies in the relay at a time with goats or something, and in exchange they'd have wireless communication infrastructure.

You are now imagining Belegar holding a Chihuahua sized spider to his ear like a cellphone.

Obviously we just need to wait to go to Cathay until TWW 3 and/or the relevant DLC comes out and does all the world building for the eastern half of the Old World.
Cathay isn't in the Old World. The Old World ends at the World's Edge Mountains in the east, and at no doubt argued over points in the south (I'd guess the various suggestions in canon are Barak Varr, the Border Princes and Karak Azul).

Spooder Phone: Chi-Chi Chi-Chi-Chi Chiiii-Chiiii Chi-Chi-Chi! Connected with other-We!
Belegar on Spooder Phone: Belegar speaking.

Mathilde on other Spooder Phone: Oh hey Boss, I uh... I took a walk and found myself in Karak Drazh. Its now on fire, and I swear it wasn't my fault it was totally the Orcs and their insistence on warpstone lighting fixtures.

Belegar: I see... Well then.
Belegar's Spooder Phone: Connection closed.

I can just see the spider ringing and a confused dwarf poking at it.

"Is this thing on?"

"Chi-chi-chi-chi-chi"

"Errhhh CONNECT!"
