That's not going to scare them off. Better they go back with neither Council nor Eshin knowing how the two (four) disappeared. To the Council, it looks like their agent who was genuinely loyal went to the sorceror and both disappeared. Seeing as one is loyal and another is well known for emphasizing one part of Skavendom, the obvious conclusion is that the sorceror betrayed the Council and went rogue. I mean, it's not like Dwarf-things would have been responsible, no-no.

How would the Council know all the details?

They're half a continent away in Skavenblight - they're not going to have anything more than a very fuzzy image on how the battle went on unless the Horned Rat personally keeps track of what's happening in Karak Eight Peaks and informs them.

I kinda want to kill-steal.
[X] The Council Agent must die.
- [X] Strike the Agent down before the Sorcerer has a chance to.

I didn't tag you for official action or comment.
...you did, though? You quoted what he said in response to you (a thing which alerts the quote-ee), started off with a confused-face emoji, and then ended your post like this:
Yet here we stop to relitigate. Why?
It is possible you didn't intend this to be read as "asking him to justify his decisions" and were just being rhetorical, but certainly what it looked like to me when I originally read your post was "Angelform is confused about what seems to them like inconsistency in QMing and wants a better explanation from Boney."

Him asserting that you're cross-examining him isn't hostile. Cross-examination is just a descriptive term for the thing it looked like you were doing.

This is a very confusing post.
I didn't tag you for official action or comment. I didn't demand or even suggest that things should be changed. Merely stated my thoughts on events and trends in the quest and thread.

A quest is, by its very definition, an interactive experience. As a participant I have every right to examine how it works and present my opinion. So long as I do it in an acceptably courteous manner, as laid out by the rules of the forum. I didn't use foul language, insults or accusations. Yet you seem to be responding as if to a perceived attack.

While I am glad to have you be part of the discussion, being the GM does not give you the right to silence people you disagree with.
Quoting someone and then asking "Why?" At the end of a post is basically the definition of tagging someone for official action or comment.

[X] Both should live.
- [X] Attack the Council Agent, but let them both get away.

"Don't worry my Eshin friend! We will murder this Council rat together and grant you the promotion you deserve!"
"Too-too quiet man-thing?!"
"For the glory of Clan Eshin!"

Oh, my kingdom to be running the Deceiver right now.
It took me a few moments to understand your meaning, and in the meantime, I assumed you were suggesting we personally impersonate Clan Mors, in a gambit involving having all the Dwarves dress up in rat masks and making their best impression of Queekish.
"How do you do, Fellow Skaven."
"Matty, I feel ridiculous right now."
"Trust me, this will work. Fellow Skaven."
*sigh* "Yes-yes."

[X] Both should die (write in)
-[X] If the Sorcerer attacks, let the Sorcerer's attack play out, then finish off whoever survives. Otherwise, just observe and leave.

Most QMs probably have those turned off, though, since their posts are often quoted as a citation. I know I would, if I ran a quest.
Funnily enough I'm a questmaster and I have literally everything but quote alerts and watched thread alerts turned off.

Anyway off that tangent something i have been considering for a while and which may be relevant to the coming events is a dichotomy in magical duels presented in this quest.

On screen what we've seen are generally two approaches.

One is where one caster in the duel draws on more power and bulls through the opposition, or aims to kill or maim their opponent with great speed before they can do the same in return. The Orcs Waaagh casting and Alkharad's eye beams are relevant examples.

The other is a an approach where one caster capitalizes on the mistakes of their opponent to create a miscast, or creates those mistakes to leverage. So far due to Mathilde's skill she seems to give support to an idea that this second approach is more dangerous for the enemy than the first one.

However Mathilde and her magical duels are a small slice of Warhammer magical duels which don't capture the full picture and I was wondering what people think.

Hmm. Y'know, the whole "Mathilde is basically James Bond" thing is really doing a lot to sell me on decking her out with magic items.

Bond always gets one or two sweet toys at the start of a mission that end up being vital. What I'm actually against is said items accumulating to the point of the audience/writer not being able to keep track of them anymore.

Let's see:
• The Seed is totally fine: It's a background healing item that isn't combat usable, and gives Mathilde the ability to do the insane stunts intrinsic to being Bond without dying ten different ways.
• Upgraded Armor is fine too: Bond gets improbably undamaged in fights all the time, and when was the last time he failed to stop a doom laser because he was tired?
• Branulhune can be Mathilde's equivalent to the PP9/PPK - her signature weapon, with well established bullshit potential.

I'd say that these items form the core of her "action hero package", and as such don't really count towards the "special loadout" for a mission in a narrative sense.

Bond stories usually have 3-4 gadgets total, so that's the "narrative limit" I'd recommend we stick to when it comes to Mathilde - anything beyond that will be almost impossible to work with for the author and audience.

• The Belt of the Unshackled Mountain gives her auto-retribution in both magic and melee duels, and immunity to Chaos and Fire - all of those are things I could see coming up as a Chekhov's Gun in a bond story. As such, I'd say it permanently takes up one of the "gadget" slots - luckily, since there's so many different modes that might be a game changer, it won't be getting old anytime soon.

• The Boon of Hysh item also takes up one of these slots, in my opinion - its whole purpose in the story is so that when poison comes up, Mathilde can go "luckily I had this prepared earlier!" without the audience rolling their eyes. Since it looks like we won't have to deal with Skryre or Eshin much in the future, I recommend leaving this at home to "free up" one of these slots. The in-character justification can be that now that she won't be dealing with Skryre or Eshin, Mathilde doesn't see the need to risk carrying a pretty heavy and fragile thing around all the time.

• Speed of Light and/or a huge fire nuke would absolutely fall into this category as well. It could be like that classic Bond thing where some seemingly innocuous item is actually a grenade that Bond uses to set off a chain reaction that explodes the whole enemy base.

I think she doesn't believe in the rocket tag approach (as much as you can say she believes in a superior methodology either way rather than reacting to circumstances on the ground) as much because her belt makes the counter-strike idea much more viable for her.

As others have pointed out, quoting someone and ending with 'Why?' is not a neutral observation made to nobody in particular. The way you have gone about discussing the topic clears the bar of 'the rules of the forum', but it has become increasingly aggravating and uncomfortable to me. So when that aggravation and discomfort is voiced, instead of considering whether I have the power to force you to drop the topic, consider whether dropping it would be the right thing to do, both out of courtesy to a fellow human being and out of consideration for the health of the Quest.

But just to be entirely clear on the subject - because if this continues much longer it's going to do some serious damage to how my day goes - as GM I do have the power to declare a topic closed. I am doing so now. There is to be no further discussion on the matter of whether or not there should have been a vote at this juncture.

After a fashion yeah. Generally speaking the second approach as I was thinking about it involved the counter spell which is used as the spell is forming and before it is launched, so its not precisely a counter strike philosophy in my mind.

But you are right that having the belt changes how she approaches duels.

Mainly I think her lack of interest in rocket tag comes from practically and caution slowly baked into her by experience.

I would argue that we need to start decking ourself out with our own stuff going forward. (as its the only way to go above cap a little bit.

spell items are a bit pointless, but there is other stuff that could be fun.

I can't find the quote, but Boney said that the only way we can get a Saving Ward (arguably the best 'during battle' defence item) and wear The Belt of the Unshackled Mountain without them clashing is to make the Ward ourselves so it has 'our' signature.
