Wait what?

Tommorow?

When.

I cant wait that long!
If all goes according to plan, BoneyM anticipates being able to begin writing in approximately seven hours.

To calibrate your expectations of the likelihood of everything going according to plan, *gestures at the last six turns of Mathilde's life*

By the way, I am now imagining Mathilde accidentally getting field command in imperial armies. I mean, no one would give command to a wizard, but an experienced dwarf thane- now, that is another matter entirely!
I can kind of, sort of, almost see it happen (and suddenly I want it to)...

Say that the empire and the dwarves gather an army for [reason (possibly chaos being edgier than usual?)], and Karak Eight Peaks is calm enough for Belegar to send a throng, but isn't able to come himself (possibly due to grievous accident with orc warboss, so he's now short three limbs, or something. Whatever it takes to make a dwarf not come to a battle). Of course he would put the Thane most used to dealing with Umgis in charge of it, that just stand to reason. And the empire generals don't think too much about the fact that that dwarf-loving wizard is always hanging around the command tend, that's just where she tends to be.

Battle or Charlie Foxtrot happens, Empire command is hors de combat, and ask the dwarves if they have someone who could lend a hand (that's not necessarily how it's phrased, but...). Lo and behold, they do have a Thane who has some good ideas of how to command human troops. They'll send them over (que possible confusion in translation between Kazalid and Reikspiel, and pronouns). Mathilde arrives, along with some command personel. And then some frantic explanation that the dwarven thane is the wizard, not her batman.

... I should probably go to sleep, that makes a bit too much sense to my addled brain...

Mathilde is the Thane of something after all, and that was the maind diference be definition.
How many Thanes of Karak Eight Peaks are there? Would that title be applicable to any Thane who's sworn allegiance to Belegar, or is it a specific title? Basically, is she a Thane of (in, who has sworn allegiance to) Karak Eight Peaks, or The Thane of Karak Eight Peaks (Capitalized Definite Article and all).

I beleive right now she is the Thane of Karak Eight Peaks. As in, the one actually commanding the armies of Karak Eight Peaks.

When Belegar returns, she will most likely be downgraded to just Thane. As in was in command of a throng, didn't fuck up.

Hugger, I worry about you. You are growing increasingly bitter. Where is the optimistic insane maniac who believed that no ship is truly sunk, that love always finds a way even if it has to commit a couple of atrocities against men and gods?

You are falling from gace, Hugger. Instead of looking for ways to unite the loving hearts, you are looking for those to blame for separating them. Return to the light, Hugger. Have faith.

Remember, no ship is truly sunk and submarines are a thing.

Right now, she is. But that's temporary and unlikely to last. Think "Thane" as military rank and "Thane of k8p" as a command position. The line of command sucession automatically pulled Mathilde to the position of thane of k8p until Belegar or his military advisors return, and that automatically entitled Mathilde to thane rank. She will not hold command for long, and she will stop being the thane of k8p very soon, but her rank is for life until revoked.

Yeah @Omegahugger! Don't give up! all we need to do is make a couple of dozen bot accounts to vote necromancy with us! It'll be easy, now i just need your credit card information to pay out all the script kiddies i hired to make the NecroVote bots. :V

Or wait until someone gets around to making a Necromancy Mathilde spinoff quest. I'm sure it'll happen at some point this decade.
Look, having a job is hard, and totally the only reason I can't get shit done, ok? It's not my constant procrastination.

Thankfully I follow the way of BAHHSQ and expect updates after a year's time and being pleasantly surprised when things update before that.

Very excited for the end of the omega hiatus.

Look, it's a well proven thing that any magic-user who either isn't Mathilde or is outside her influence will inevitably screw up and explode. That's why I don't suggest we teach someone else Necromancy, we don't need Mathilde to be responsible for any more avoidable deaths.

... Okay, the main reason I don't suggest it is because I think it'll be easier to convince the thread to use the Liber Mortis ourselves than convince them to give it to anyone who doesn't pinky-swear to never take a peek.

Shhhh! You are talking madness fellow mortal and I need not listen to you.

... Do you know how hard it was to convince the thread we didn't have 200 SkeleBots ready to pounce the moment the next necromancy vote comes up? I had to appeal to logos and everything!

Ah, but he couldn't heal Abel. Shyish doesn't do that. So he doesn't get the blame.
He deserves the blame though. Sure Shyish can't heal but if he hadn't been busy being a suspicious maniac attempting to loot a tomb and had actually been helping us or even left one of his three, three, battle wizards to do the job he was asked to come along for rather than YOLOing into a tomb* we might never have gotten surrounded in the first place. Certainly we could have gotten Abel out sooner, which might have given him more chance to live.

That they elected such a terrible person leader of their college puts the Amethyst order in poor light. Fortunatly they've elected Elspeth now, so their taste is showing some improvement.

:V I'm only mostly joking.

*Still think he was looking for the Liber Mortis. More fool him.

How about Skyre/Moulder tech? Pulling a Frankenstein is right up their alley. We even had that vat of organs.

I'm still in love with the Umbramancy concept. Mindhole the reality into forgetting Abel ever died. Forge a phanton of your memories and hopes and dreams anf force everyone to beleive that it actually is Abel.

There is just such a great tragic and heartwarming narrative here.

Anna would quickly either fall to Chaos or become worshiped as a goddess. Her poor mental health would take a beating from seeing all the various horrible things going on in Warhammer, and she is fast and strong enough to solo entire fallen Karaks.

That said, unleashing her on the dark elves would be fun to watch from a distance.

Edit: She would also unleash a technological revolution in under a week.

Fuck yeah, that series of omakes are some of my absolute favorite parts of the entire quest.

More than thirty hours have passed since the last light of an update.
The descent into madness continues.
Shadows are starting to look real. Hopes coming alive, material.
Reality bends as laws are forgotten, the mind riddled with holes.
The cold is settling in. We trudge on.

The thread must survive.

So this recent discussion has reminded me of something, but why exactly haven't we delivered the Liber Mortis back to the Colleges yet? It doesn't do us much good now that we've already read the thing, and if Mathilde dies it would just end up being lost again. Sure we can't get any favour out of it, having to deliver the book anonymously, but it seems to me the Colleges would be more secure than our library.

Because they would kill Mathilde stone dead for being in possession of it, and they would try to track down any anonymous drop.

The thing about Abelhelm is that- just like Omegahugger- Mathilde has moved on.

Because I won't let you.

Necromancy is the only true path for humanity.

WE must force the embracement of it.

Security in Obscurity, and institutions can be easily infiltrated, not to mention that the Empire has a poor track record of information retention.

No, I get that, but I do recall Boney mentioning Mathilde would be able to make absolutely sure it was untraceable.

Yeah, but we don't actually need the book anymore, we already learned everything we could from it. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Mathilde could copy it down fully if she ever felt the need to teach someone else.

Fair enough, though we should probably put a few precautions up just in case we do die horribly and without warning.
