Is it just me, or is sitting at his bedside to stare at his injured body precisely not what we should be doing right now? Exactly what reason is there for that besides shipping? We have a fucking invasion to win right now, either get our liege healed up and rejoin the fray, or take the reins ourselves. I'd honestly prefer the latter, just to get us on the battlefield immediately, but I have less faith in that winning at this moment.

We have far too much responsibility to just stop fighting. Van Hal would not want Mathilde to just sit around.
If we do anything too strenuous our guts will spill out, in case you missed that.

And let's stop pestering Boney for all the information just now; I trust he'll explain when it makes sense and Mathilde has more opportunity to understand what happened. Battlefields are chaotic.
He already said the full story is something we'd only get in the post mortem. Currently everyone is too busy stabbing undead to sort things out, but it is VERY possible recriminations, deserved or not, will be handed out.

Several reasons:
1) We are severely wounded. As in, we are one injury away from incapacitation ourselves based on the CK2 Wound level. Word of GM is that any strenous activity would be significantly penalized. Mechanically, this means we are working with a Martial of functionally 0. And a chance of mishap from aggravating our wounds.

2) This is the very town where the Bound Spell sleeper agents were developed and sent out. There is a non zero chance that any member of the resident human population can turn into a super strong ghoul on the right trigger, needing no intervention. Mathilde is one of a few people in the Empire qualified to identify such an effect.

3) Van Hal is unconscious, but you can wake from a gut wound and continue to fight until you die of sepsis. This means that if he wakes up, he'd best see someone he actually trusts or he may wind up aggravating his injuries.

Trying to micro a Take Command vote into a Get Healers vote is specifically one of those "characters are not retarded" elements that were mentioned.

Sorry, point taken. Changing my vote.

It'll be very romantic sitting by Val Hal's side as he dies, but afterwards it won't be romantic anymore if he is dead. And while commanding the battle ourselves might be the best for Stirland, having Val Hal die is one of the worst things that could happen to us and the Quest. We've proven our worth as an adviser to Val Hal, and he's been a good Elector Count. A new Elector Count both wouldn't trust us and might well be uninterested in the kind of proactive action that would actually benefit Stirland. We might not have the best chance of finding help, but it's better than the zero chance we have of helping if we just stick around waiting.

[X] By Van Hal's side. Whatever happens

No need to act stupidly guys. We are NEAR DEATH. Also one of the few who can see magical assasins which might see Van Hal as a weak point to the invasion.

5. Something cut us off from not only fourth wave but from the remains of second wave as well. Maybe some magical terror?
Imagine if there had actually been some magic-related terror effect keeping everyone away until the dwarves broke through, and it turns out the entire time we just hadn't noticed through the haze of red as we fought to protect the Count.

Read veekie's argument up top. We are almost dead. Severe penalties abound and are the most qualified to recognize a magical assasin like the spies back in home base.

Staying by Van Hal's side may be romantic... but it is also choosing inaction. It's a war. It is something bigger than one person, even elector. Hundreds lives are being lost. Any difference we can make, we should make.

Question Mathilde should ask herself is: "Would Van Hal want her to stay by his side, while his men are dying?" From all that we know, answer would be emphatic 'no'.

We have two realistic choices where Mathilde actually helps the battle. One is ment to keep Elector alive to keep army's morale long term. Another is to take command and inspire troops to keep up army's morale short term.

[ ] Somewhere in that town-turned-battlefield is Brother Kasmir. Leave Van Hal's side. Find him. Sigmar will heal Van Hal.
[ ] The plan exists independently of Van Hal; if necessary, it will outlive him. Take command.

Let's not vote for one where Mathilde does nothing.

What the heck happened to the Stirland army?

Staying by Van Hal's side isn't being chosen because it's romantic, it's being chosen because we're severely wounded and the next bad roll we make will probably be our last, barring mitigating factors like, for instance, being surrounded by a bunch of guards and medics.

Also, staying with him to make sure that no enemy spies (who we know exist, are effectively indistinguishable from normal Stirlandian citizens, and can manifest supernatural powers of strength and vitality) try to kill Van Hal while he's down for the count (pun not intended, but certainly sanctioned) is just as valid a use of our time as trying to either take command of an army with a baseline martial score that narratively is solely us being good with a sword, rather than any knowledge of military strategy, or trying to fight all the way through that meatgrinder of a town and back with a severe wound.

[X] Dhar lies thick in the air. You just need a little. Just enough to give a Grey Wizard the power to heal...
