@BoneyM how useful would an item of Smoke and Mirrors be for escape use?

A very effective item of escaping seems like it would just cast "Pall of Darkness" ------> "Smoke and Mirrors" to another space. Basically the magical version of ninja smoke escape.

For the future : we need Smoke and Mirrors, not Speed of Light. We need teleportation, and we need to learn it now !
We need Invisibility. Regimand told us so two years ago. This has not stopped being true.

We should not try to study Battle Magic until we fill out our spellbook and get to Magic 8, and honestly I would argue that we should also get our staff first. I do not want to try the thing that even human wizards acknowledge as insanely dangerous until we are as prepared for it as possible with magical knowledge and paraphernalia.

[X] Leave Karagril to see if any other factions are intervening.

[X] Try to find your Ducklings and fight by their side.

Our assassinations have been very helpful, so I don't want to give them up completely, but I would prefer if Mathilde was a bit more cautious.

She moved into the middle of an Orc crowd, striking down an Orc Boss in plain view in melee. That's a damn risky maneuvre.

We also need better exfiltration options. Invisibility should help.

Hmm... the complete lack of any Shamans is actually somewhat worrying to me. It'd be one thing for an Orc army of this size to only have one or two, or to have only weak ones, but none whatsoever? I can't help but get the feeling that we're missing something.

Maybe they got ganked by Skaven. Doesn't seem all that worrying to me.

To be more precise we have rolled 3 times 1s in high danger situation this turn.

Who has pissed off Ranald? Because those rolls suck.
Those rolls can be expected if we keep throwing the dice. We are not Tyrion of Ulthuan. We are a surprisingly sharp and tough scalpel, we are not a lawnmower and even lawnmowers can jam up, stall or hit rocks.

We were damn lucky that we took hits from weapons and didn't get grabbed. The runtiest orc in the mountain could shake Mathilde to death without breaking sweat. We were damn lucky that we didn't step in a corpse in the Pall of Darkness, fall and get trampled to death by accident.

For all that we've lectured the journeymen, we've been getting cocky ourselves. Bodycount means jack shit without a purpose and without survival. We carry a big pistol to give us a chance at killing a target without walking into the middle of an orc filled room. Shoot from the doorway then fuck off whether we succeed or not. If even that isn't available walk away.

The mother hen in me is tempted to change my vote to finding ducklings, even though rationally I know that they are both in a good strategic position (I expect that due to catastrophic state of greenskin forces most of the battle will be over by the time the K8P throng joins the fighting) and that they intentionally signed up for this, and don't want coddling.

Ugh, I will resist.

I could be that after the shamans:

A) Committed heresy.
B) Failed to do anything to the opposing anything.
C) Pummeled their own forces.
D) Provided a straw for us to drain the Waaagh of the entire orc army.

They might not be so popular anymore.

Very, but you're at the point where you're being considered for limited Battle Magic access so it might be advisable to wait.

I'm not quite sure how accurate the "one more bad roll from death" thing is, unless I missed some WoG somewhere.

Yes, we kept flubbing the exfil rolls, but if I understand the circumstances right, we probably could have stood there fighting orcs until their morale broke, between the belt, the seed and dread aspect.

That's a possibility, and one that occurred to me, but it doesn't quite feel right. For one thing, the Skaven are focused on their own infighting right now- they've got no reason to undertake a dedicated shaman murdering campaign.

At this point we might get a flaw, it's just not our thing.

Heh. I cant wait for Mathilde's future trait. Maybe: Easy In, No Way Out (?), or Silent Entry, Noisy Exit (?), or just simply You Suck At Retreat.

Kragg, Kragg Jr., the beauty of close air support and the artillery can cover our backs we should focus on getting this mountain taken with as few casualties and as quickly as possible.

The Seed does no good if there's nothing to distract the enemies from your strangely writhing corpse. You were one good hit from going down.

I just want to lead a wizard squad now. That they're all swordy wizards instead of Battle wizards just means that they're player characters instead of NPCs who get to do the scripted battle magic if you complete the objectives in time, or whatever.

Well, as far as "oh shit, get out of jail now" magical items go, the portable AoE fire vortex/conflagration/any is still as godtier as it was.

Boggled down by hordes of orcs? No biggie, drop a fire AoE under you feet, laugh in fire immunity.

Seed of Regrowth: An enchanted seed lying dormant in Mathilde's palm, this is capable of healing wounds up to and including death.
Spoiler: Further Details
"It will trigger automatically should you be slain, or can be triggered with a mnemonic. A second mnemonic will use it to heal anyone you hold your palm to. It can hold four activations of power; to recharge, allow it to sprout in soil for three to eight hours per activation, depending on the richness of the soil - I recommend sleeping outdoors for this purpose. Alternately, when time is of the essence, hold your palm to an incapacitated or bound enemy and allow the roots to feed upon them. This will recharge a single activation. In a pinch, corpses can be used, albeit at a tenth of the effectiveness."

Why didn't Mathilde use one of the charges before she died. It's got three functions to it after all.

Up to and including death suggests we can heal mid combat.
