It's amusing how the thread, after being denied their hunger for trains, had now settled on canalmania as the expression of their deep need for (industrial) revolution instead.

I wonder how long until the thread snaps due to the silk delays, and hires someone to make a spinning engine and power loom. That's how it starts you know. First some canals, then a little bit of spinning and weaving automation, and then your cutting the forests down for a bit more steam.
I feel like between liminal research, teleport towers and canals we are set to come up with the idea of webway somehow.

Huh I remember something about us getting paid for building rite of way to eonir. Did that happen? Or did it end up as its own reward? I was going to ask Servoi to be a guest lecturer for the collages.

This was and remains a good idea, but with the proposed canal we could do more than just broker deals between Kislev and Laurelorn.
I swear i forgot that was a thing. Yes it sounds even better idea with the canals.

This is the Empire. You cut down the forests to keep the firing lanes from you village's walls to gribbly central clear and to ever so slightly reduce gribbly central in size. Ant steam you get from it is just gravy
Algard: ... Maybe we should add a Mathilde's School of Diplomacy to the Grey Order's teaching courses ...
Also Algard: "... But who is going to teach those skills? Ahm... Uhm... Egh... Fuck."

Swolomon-Mathilde: Contemplate these words, Algard. If you desire a class, why, here it is! My actions are the class and the whole of the teachings. It is there for the taking.
Algarad: "Lady Magister, you are volunteering for the teaching job? What a pleasant surprise! I accept your generous offer. Please don't run. I have plenty of witnesses for this deal".

Wizards aren't prohibited from having political influence. The Articles prohibit Wizards from obstructing in malice or for financial or political gain the rulings of the Emperor, and from seeking to overthrow him for those reasons.
In addition to this, the Greys are not one of the orders prohibited (self-prohibited?) from romantic and or carnal relations.

The empress committing adultery might be a potential issue. However given there is no chance of it complicating the succession I doubt anyone competent will be picking a fight with Heidi or Mathilde over it. Neither is an easy target for anyone.

Boney's foreshadowing ability leaves me incredulous, as always.

"Hi," you say as a Marsh Light illuminates the darkness, and then you step out of the way of the inevitable crossbow bolt. Or at least the Illusion of yourself does. You're bold, but you're not stupid.

"Got sick of the act?" the voice says. "Bit overdressed, aren't you?"

"Oh, I'm not a Daemonette," you say. "Mathilde Weber, Dalmhornzhufokrul."

There's a moment of silence as they consider that. "Night water crafter? You make commodes?"

"In the sense that I craft waterworks from deeds done at night."

If anything, the Empress having a grey wizard as a secret paramour is probably less scandalous than the Empress not having a secret paramour at all.

Ironically, someone with Mathilde's reputation being "the empress's lover" probably keeps a lot of the unsavory sorts away.

Lahmian Vampire: Ok, I'll become the empress's lover and get close to the emperor that way.
*sees Mathilde's resume*
LV: NOPE!NOPE!NOPE!NOPE!

It's not finished being built yet, in part because the premise of the spell proved so utterly bizarre to those who would be enchanting it that it took several weeks and the intervention of Sarvoi to explain the bare minimum needed to get started.

We'll apparently have an option to get involved further to get it done faster. I think through a followup EIC action?

I do hope we pick something Diplomacy/Stewardship-based for the trait pick that'll probably come at the end of the Waystones arc, rather than whatever weird magical shiny is offered (I seriously never understood why the thread picked Dhar-wielding after Dum with absolutely zero plans on ever wielding Dhar).

Between getting everyone on-board with the Project in the first place, this Canal that seems likely to win, the RoW bridge, setting up the charcoal trade, the KAU book deals and potentially shifting most of the private stock of Ithilmar across the border in the near future, Mathilde's put a startling amount of effort into creating ties between the Order nations since taking the job, usually trade ties. It seems fitting to have that reflected in a trait going forward after we move on.

Because it helps with dispelling non-necromancy Dhar, which is to say Chaos magic and Druchi magic.
