One option would be a "failed" quiet nighttime assassination. Laminan sneaks in at night, the Tzar "wakes up" so our theoretical laminan assassan has no choice but to use a loud method to secure the kill immediately, rather than risk a fair fight with the mighty Tzar. Include, say, an illusion of a bat flying out into the distance why we turn intangible and nope out a different way.

Okay, Nighttime Visit into MMM shadow knife is actually a really nice idea. Nighttime visit -> Mockery of Death -> MMM Shadow Knives or Magic Dart -> that leaves a death that looks natural, but if they do an autopsy they will see horrible wounds inside his body with no external wounds. That fits the bill exactly: zero risk to Mathilde and it looks like a magical death that someone was trying hard to make look mundane.

Does anyone see a problem with this as a writein?

I have a lot of concerns with how, apart from that one time when she was dismantling the conspiracy with Regimand post-Drakenhof, Mathilde has a very poor track record with the "getting away cleanly" part of an assassination. I am inclined towards Nighttime Visit just because it has the least means of us fucking up beyond a desirable level.

Doing it quietly is more dignified for everyone involved; doing it quietly is what Boris wants.

I suppose something like a shadowknife that stabbed him in the heart without cutting his clothes would be best.

I mean, let's take a page back from Stirland, where those deep cover agents had a bundle of Dhar within them to keep them in line.

Time delayed kill, perhaps even hitting the spectacle option without actually exposing Mathilde.

Maybe also cast Sounds to make an unnatural scream come from the Tzar's bedroom? But by the time the guards get there...

...okay, for plausibility's sake, not because I expect most Kislevites to be well-versed in arcane lore, what spells could a Lahmian have for an assassination? Or for cutting short an assassination that failed to be quiet?

Ok, so this may be overcomplicating it, but a staple of supernatural mystery stuff in the killer trying to diguise their nature by disfiguring the corpse to distract from the actual killing wound.
So here is my idea for the threads consideration:
1) Go in at night
2) Put him under Mockery of death
3) Drain his blood via two small puncture wounds until dead
4) Disfigure him like you are trying to hide the wounds, but barely didn't succeed
5) Exit
We could also leave a few obvious mindholes among the nighttime guards.
I am getting some very strong deja vu reading this proposal.

Have we considered faking a vampire murder before?

Spectacle is a mistake, given that this is supposed to look like a Lahmian who doesn't want it to look like a Lahmian. Being too obviously magical would defeat the latter half of that.

I like the quiet solution that is only revealed to be magical upon closer inspection.

Is it too identifiable as gray magic, though?
If we do it while he's away from civilization and it takes multiple days to get him back to someone with Windsight that'll probably be enough time for any Ulgu to fade away or combine with Shyish attracted to the corpse and become Dhar. And it might not even be an issue if Lahmians are able to use Ulgu spells. Does anyone know if that's that's case? I know they can do Necromancy but I can't recall if they're able to use other Winds too.

Yeah, honestly sounds best, not like the Tzar's body wouldn't be examined (the Empress's was! I was rereading recently, and there was a thorough autopsy confirming her death as natural).

Will likely vote for something like this.

I think we should do it like this:

Step 1: Sneak in.
Step 2: Plant a Shadow Knife Matrix in him while he is asleep.
Step 3: Trigger the matrix at a random time the next day.

Don't take this as certain, but I believe vampires can use all but one of the Winds (Light or Life, I think) with effort, its just much easier to learn Dhar than it is the other ones, so they mostly use that
