What was?Well that took awhile but it wasn't nearly as unpleasant to go through as I was worried it might.

catching up to the thread after I went to bed and had to go to work. The 40ish pages I had to dig through weren't nearly as salty as I was expecting.
So, our wolf is a non-combatant academic.Well, on to more optimistic subjects for a while, just putting some thoughts regarding our familiar.
We don't know for sure if he's better than a generic wolf in terms of base line potential but here's the stat block for a generic wolf.

Actually kind of impressive, but it gets much better when you look at what animal turned familiar can gain. The following isn't a statblock it's an advance scheme which essentially deals with the potential increases a character or creature can gain over time.

So a few keynotes here, the magical bond gives a massive boost to potential intelligence and willpower of the creature effected, our wolf Familiar could hit levels of intelligence at the high end of what a human is capable of. In this system a Human starts with any where from 22-40 intelligence. Our wolf will be able to hit 54 assuming he's a generic base line wolf before taking into account familiar powers like link of psyche. That puts him in the range of trained academics and scholars. More importantly our wolf will be able to learn to speak at least in preastantia and read and write. Perhaps the most interesting thing though is how powerful their will becomes. A familiar like our wolf has the potential to have the same kind of willpower as a hardened wizard lord. Obviously many of the skills listed would require us to train our wolf or to pay for people to do the same as that's not innate. The talents on the other hand are.
Just thought it'd be interesting to discuss what we can look forward to with our familiar. On a mechanical level if we can choose another familiar power any time soon I'd suggest we get Link of Psyche. It provides a +10 boost to Intelligence and Will power as long as both are awake.
So, our wolf is a non-combatant academic.
Can we get him to write our papers?
Will we have to write his?

Well, duh.
Does it have to be a paperweight? Mathilde has a bosspole now, so maybe we can put it there? Or better yet, get it mounted on a staff like Kragg and his Minotaur skull? Our desk is lonely without our Singing King skull paperweight.
Mathilde is like Anton: she is way more valuable in practice than she should be in theory. She is the quirky better-than-average option just before the good stuff, like actual battlewizards.Out of curiosity, in the hypothetical Belegar quest, what kinda event/random reinforcement roll do you think it would've been for Mathilde to show up? I'm think somewhere in the 80s but I'm not sure.
Is there a telekenesis spell that can be added to an item that allows for the fidelity to move a pen? What are the limits of the range and force if this/these spell(s)
What are the "item slots" that are available for a wolf to use, or has that not been defined?
If Wolf foes get that smart we should teach him how to use a greatsword and get one custom made for him.
@BoneyM who's name is first on the papers? This is very important.
He'd be kinda shit at at. Ws 40 S 40 is not funny even at mid-level, and we are definitely way past it. The wolf/familiar scheme plainly sucks at combat once you leave early level. If Wolf foes get that smart we should teach him how to use a greatsword and get one custom made for him.
