I wonder if you could take a strand of the winds and convince it to solidify as a ring. And then using windherder make another ring through it of a different wind, forging a chain of powerstones.

Player: "We've heard about her in the rumor mills, it's fine. It's not like Horstmann is showing up."

Moneyb: "Yeah, he's too busy at her research institute for that."
...man, now that you bring that up the hypothetical MoneyB could really just enjoy throwing out lines to fuck with their paranoia.
Stirland/Sylvania noble, Empress friend, expedition to the chaos wastes, her understanding and relationship with gods....

Has anyone actually brought up potential ethical concerns with Red Rider binding? Red Riders might be sentient and binding them might be slavery. Now, just because they have a partially humanoid form doesn't mean that they are people any more than the Hounds or the Black Essence or the Wisdom's Asp or any other Apparition is. But if behavior and nature follows form (which it might in case of an Aethyric being), then there os a chance that they actually are people to some degree.

If they are then we can negotiate with them, if not we continue our plan.

no, because

A) it's not something people in the setting would care about. empire humans really don't care about the opinions of things that regularly try to eat them.

B) how alive/aware/Sentient Apparitions has always been arguable

C) Boney right out asked people not to go down that rabbit-hole last time, so lets not start it again please.

I would be shocked if the colleges' course on Nehekaran didn't start with a safety lecture all about why and how you don't provoke the tomb kings. It's a real and valid concern for the colleges to have, but probably just one they deal with using normal bureaucracy rather than anything we'd need to be concerned by.
Would the redacted mind messages of the Grey College count as "normal bureaucracy"? They have one of those alloted for, and I quote:
'don't touch the mummy gold, idiot'

Moneyb: "Yeah, he's too busy at her research institute for that."
Player: "Researching what, exactly?"

MoneyB: "Well, currently it seems like the Waystone Network, that thing that keeps the Old World from flooding with magic so Daemon armies can't wander about as they please."

Player: "That doesn't sound so bad. Any problems so far?"

MoneyB: "Well, you aren't sure if it's related, but Lady Magister Weber did report about a run-in with a Lord of Change recently."

I'm not sure making Orbs into specific shapes would have any effect, aside from volume.

The purpose of the orb is to make the surrounding area "less real" to make spell casting easier.

Changing it's shape shouldn't change its function, unless we do so in a way that increases or decreases it's volume, which will probably strengthen/weaken it's effect.
It might not change the function, but ones that aren't shaped to be fit into the stuff the Colleges already have for Orbs of Sorcery are probably a bit of a pain anyway.

Ah. Missed that. I thought about the Scrolls of Kadon and how capturing Dragons with those is acceptable to many or even most Magisters, yet something we would want Mathilde disagree with as a player character. But if Boney chimed in then I consider this an OOC confirmation that Red Riders are not people that way.

We've talked about Mathilde appearing in various Empire or Dwarf negaverses, but what about some kind of Cult negaverse quest? Imagine the sheer paranoia that the random small chaos cult has when they hear that the Grey Lord Magister is in down, they panic thinking she's noticed them when in reality she is just stopping there on a mapping job or stopping to grab some food because her old master recommended a restaurant or is hunting an Apparition.

If we're finally considering grabbing an Apparition next turn, I would like to re-recommend the sincere yet simple option of the Rider in Red. They're big. They're beefy. They come for the souls of the cruel and destructive. They are, to an entity, en-horse-ened. No weird tricks. No extra spell effects tacked on. No weird reaching in order to staple every template and trait we think we can leverage to make it as easy and overpowered as possible. Just go for it.

The first step is to take the enemy AI and give it a grey tint and name it Oleg.

The second step is to win.

The joy of our accomplishments will taste fresh, and if there's more strength to be found then it will be new strength born from the expansion of our horizons.

And if we roll good enough we can staple some buffs onto them, but overall their purpose remains the same.

I'm just hoping throwing enough Ulgu on there will give them a cloak or something.

Hoping that Mathilde's first combat spell for the Colleges isn't a bunch of shirtless horsemen.

We are going for Nazghul for general aesthetic and I think Boney is kind enough to at least give us that if we succeed with the spell.
Yup.
Question: Gehenna likened the binding put on the apparitions to familiar bonds. Is that why the golden hounds have a chamon reflavor and should we expect the same?

Personally, I'm hoping the biggest 'buff' per se we can get for a Red Rider is to use Alratan's idea of it being enveloped in a thick mist, to count for purposes of the Staff of Mistery and Warrior of Fog. Reducing the risk is a higher priority for me than upping killability.

Plus the Mist is great for aesthetics and intimidation factor. Imagine the menacing slow walk they'd be able to do.

Also I do hope that the resulting Riders will be able to create threatening quotes in a whispery but menacing voice that sounds like it is right behind you. Because sometimes that is enough to cause the wavering troops to flee for the hills.

Well, I'm curious to see if we can enhance that functionality by the runes of magic that make up arcane marks. And staves in particular work by way of carving a bunch of wind-adjacent runes into them, and being made up of suitable materials - I'd like to see what a Powerstone staff would do.

And for the really big Powerstone, quantity has a quality all of its own sometimes. If casting is easier near a Powerstone, what would a giant Powerstone do? There might be a critical mass at which something exciting happens.

I don't really have any ideas beyond those three special cases, though.
The only thing that worries me is when you're dealing with magic in Warhammer, "critical mass at which something exciting happens" usually translates to "demons, demons and Chaos everywhere". We might want to try to check with the elves if there's a reason they don't make powerstones bigger than the morbs.

Does Teclis ever answer letters? :)
