Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
I could see a Blood Dragon using their super strength and a massive sword to just absolutely cleave their way through an arbitrary number of low level soldiers, maybe... Vampire reflexes probably make using the weight to enable crazy midair dodges plausible too! That's fun.

Isn't there an aqshy spell that just makes like a 20 ft long sword of fire in one of the versions? Flaming sword of rhuin I think it was? Bright wizards sure know how to handle living in a death world.
Flaming Sword of Rhuin is still in 8e, but it enchants the weapons of troops to burn with a hungry flame (+1 when rolling to wound with close combat or shooting attacks), not a giant sword. I don't know if it was different in other editions or you're thinking of some other spell.

So with the vote slowed down if not stopped what do you guys think we should get as far as library purchases go? I kind of want to go Eonir again something like this:

[ ] [LIBRARY] Library of Mournings: Old Ones and Linguistics Extensive and Esoteric

Old Ones is relevant for the Project, especially the big ticket stuff like foundation and linguistics will take out bonus from +11 to +16 which may not seem like a lot, but if we are going for the High Nehekaran, which can be useful for everything from RoW to reading the vampire books to Tomb King Waystones we want a really high roll so we can get it done in 1 AP not 2. That +5 has well a 5% chance to be the difference between having the language done and ready for use next turn or having to wait one more turn.
Are we allowed to just buy books on linguistics and have them affect language learning rolls, rather than needing to buy books on a per-language basis? Because that'd be dope, but it feels a bit cheesy.

There are two Flaming Swords of Rhuin, as part of a tradition with the Army Books and RPG. The RPG basically took the Army Book Battle Magic spells, downscaled them, and maintained their name to add them to the RPG. Wheras Flaming Sword is a Battle Magic spell that makes an entire unit's weapons glow with flame, the RPG spell does this:

"A fiery sword materializes in your grasp. It counts as a magic weapon with the Impact quality and Damage 4. You also gain +1 to your Attacks Characteristic for the duration of this spell, but only when using the flaming sword of Rhuin. The spell remains in effect for a number of rounds equal to your Magic Characteristic. You can retain it with a successful Will Power Test each round thereafter." Realms of Sorcery 2E Page 148

Typical Fire Mage stuff. It's not noted as being particularly large, just a sword of flame. It's a pretty good weapon, but it has a very short duration in the RAW.

Yeah, I just looked it up and only found the normal size sword. Sad. Pretty sure I'm just remembering someone talking about it over in the bright wizard wolves and witches quest, so maybe they had it wrong. Ah well. No enchanted sword handle that will burst into a 20 ft long lightsaber I suppose.

Hmmm. It looks like we are running out of things to buy with our library.

We might be able to fit another backfill next turn

This is also more similar to the 6 and 7e version of the spell (before which it didn't exist):
7th Edition Rulebook said:
A glowing blade materialises in the caster's hand, rippling with magical flames and the concentrated power of fire magic. Fast as quicksilver, the blade strikes with great power and accuracy and there are few who can survive the searing wounds it inflicts.
This spell is cast on the Wizard himself. Amagical flaming blade materialises in the Wizard's grasp. This counts as a magic weapon. The Wizard gains +1 additional Attack to his profile for the duration of the spell. All the Wizard's attacks will hit on a basic score of 2+ and he adds +3 to his Strength whilst using the Sword of Ruin. Whilst he has the Flaming Sword, the Wizard must use it as his sole weapon - he cannot combine it with other weapons."

I think a lot of people want metallurgy for the Waystone gold, which means going through Barak Varr. I can take it or leave it myself, but I do want to pick up books on Nehekeran history and religion at some point. Maybe their magical traditions as well, but that probably means going through the colleges. Also Eike's been asking us some morality questions, and our library has an explicit "Ethics +0" category at the moment, so maybe filling that out could be interesting? Again I can take it or leave it, it's not super important.

If we want to get max metallurgy in one purchase that is going to cost a lot. Since we cannot just buy elf books, it has to be a library purchase we would have to go something like

Linguistics and Metallurgy (Eonir) through the Library and then get Metallurgy Extensive and Esoteric (Imperial and Dwarfish) as a purchase. That would be 500 gold which we could swing with this turn's EIC profits, but just barely. Alternatively we get the human and dwarf books through the library and make due with just a +10 on the roll instead of a +15

I mean when we tried to learn Queekish we got the full bonus, that's why it's there. I can't really see why it would not apply to an easier language with a teacher.

Huh, did our book trade with the Moot not include any cookbooks? Or is that rolled under 'halflings of the moot'? Would have expected us to get cooking at *some* point, but I don't see it on there. No wonder we had so much trouble with the mushrooms.

Honestly, picking up more practical knowledge stuff that could be useful for people around the Karak does sound nice. Books on trade skills? Metallurgy would still be decent for that so that's a nice tie in if people do want to do that. And the fact that we have books on *Skaven* tactics and warfare but none on the dwarves and empire is a little weird. Might be useful if we ever end up leading a military campaign. For the third time.

IIRC we can't buy Eonir Metallurgy books because they would be tangentially military-related (how to make better weapons), but we'd still have access to them while actually researching the capstone. That's why we've been talking about getting metallurgy books via Barak Varr for a while now.

The Moot books have yet to arrive. Boney said this on what they'd likely contain:
They've yet to trickle in, but among the books on Halfling genealogy would be varying levels of Agriculture, Livestock, Cooking, Halfling Gods, Distilling, Archery, Geography, and whatever else it would seem appropriate to me for that library to have accumulated.

Yeah, looking through that thread, Skippy described it as being twenty foot long on a number of occasions, but nothing really supports that sadly.

We really need to find another polity to raid again at some point, so much of the stuff we have big bonuses on are because we stole stuff from vampires and skaven. Elfcation is more tempting all the time...

Hmm... in that case it makes sense to get all the Imperial and dwarf books on Metallurgy with the Library action and then buy Extensive Bretonian Metallurgy out of pocket. That would give us the maximum possible bonus of +17 when counting the Eonir books we can access.

If we can buy from the Eonir books this turn, can we buy *waystone* books from them? Because we're already maxed out on imperial and dwarven and that feels pretty relevant to the task at hand. Though I suppose anything magic might be restricted for us :(.

I do not think all magic books are limited anymore, just things of military relevance. Sadly waystones fit in the latter category as well.

Elfcation would be fighting raiders in Nagarythe, I don't think we're going to run into a Shade encampment with a well-stocked personal library to nab.

Aren't the Shade clans basically made of the most radicalised Druchii Malekith can find, who then air drops them into Nagarythe so they can be someone else's problem?
Sounds like the perfect people to bog down with dozens of important and heavy books that could potentially be very useful to the enemy whose territory they're in. :V

Not quite. Shades are scouts and skirmishers, and live hard lives, but there's no indicator that they're either more radicalised or thrown into Nagarythe to get rid of them.

They definitely have no choice in the matter, though. And historically Nagarythe has been passed back and forth from Druchii and Asur hands so often that it wouldn't be surprising if at least some of the people dumped there were chosen specifically to get rid of them.

I mean, they do? Like, the descriptions we get of them don't indicate they're ordered to be anywhere more than any other Druchii. The closest we get is their origin as exiles from Clar Karond, but nothing indicating they don't choose to raid.

I mean aren't these the stealth specialists? How do you order someone called a Shade, much less a whole clan of them to stay put? They could just melt back into the population.

Speaking of the Druchi though the one thing I would be fine trading with them, cash down would be non-magical books. Those are unlikely to be trapped or anything, but the sheer rarity of such tomes in human hands would make them quite the prize for the KAU.

What I mean is that at least for DL, Boney said this when it was last brought up:

There's not really a lot of room to say 'no' when Malekith pulls up in a Black Ark and says 'get in loser, we're going conquering'.
