Yeah didn't really consider the hold being attacked I will admit, but I was including bad magic oopsies im the "probably safe" part. Though lol, a little morbid but if we build a nice base in K8P it'd work out as a pretty nice tomb or memorial site(if her body isn't recoverable) for Mathilde.

Dwarves don't go in, they just write a sign saying 'Dead Wizard's stuff. Do not touch.' and seal the entrance. :V

The Griffon idea is surprisingly terrible. Sure its amazing in battle, but it's a huge problem for our usual modus operandi of stealth and assassination.
It makes it harder to switch from assassin to knight, and it will cause logistical issues.

It got tweaked, actually. So we need to learn another 7 spells to get the remaining +1 magic from the ulgu list.

Including the superfluous one, unfortunately.
I don't know how closely we should attempt to read the mechanic for Magic increase, but if the 7 spell threshold applies, I'd hope at least Mathildes Malleable Model... Malleable Multidimensional Aethyric Projection counts towards the increments. So perhaps we could skip one standard spellbook entry?

Though on inspection of the list further down, doesn't this sound fun?
U / Smoke and Mirrors: The mark of a Grey Battle Wizard is the ability to weave teleportation cantrips into other spells they cast. They appear to jump around the battlefield at will, hopping anywhere within short range with every spell they cast.
- Can be tied into a Fiendishly Complex or Battle Magic spell to teleport without any additional risk of miscast. Can also be cast on its own. Range is limited to line of sight and about a hundred yards or so.
If it's not really real Battle Magic, and we farm College Favour, and managed to learn it, could we hypothetically trigger it with Dread Aspect- BAMF into enemies - Shadow Knives - BAMF out of range - Shadow Knives again, they break - BAMF overrun unit, wiped out...

Fun thought experiment, anyway.

I think that, if at all possible, I'd trade our lustrian eggs for a griffon egg, preferably a double-headed one (get a friend Amber to help pick, if it's "luck"), and get some Amber help in raising it.

While I love our horse, and its pseudo ward-save is very good, being actually mounted means +1 armor (+2 if we put barding on it), not being subject to Killing Blow, and actually riding an incredibly murderous beastie (as in, WS 5, S6, A4 as baseline). Oh, and it flies, I bet anyone would absolutely love a chance at riding a flying mount.

It's a nice incentive to figure out the Indefatigable enchant, too.

No, I'm not jealous of Esbern and Seija, why do you ask?

For a weapon, definitely get a dwarf one, because theirs are plain and simply the best. I know it's better to say something general instead of picking outright, but I'd dearly love Kragg's "hits at S10" rune, especially if we can pair it off with two Runes of Striking. Who needs fancy "automatically bypass armor and wound" runes, if you can just take a good ol' "hits like a fucking cannon" one?

Triple Rune of Cleaving is also good (Killing Blow, +1S, AP); Master Rune of Smiting (D6 wounds) and Cleaving x2 (+1S, AP) or Striking x2 (+1 WS, re-roll misses) or Fury and Cleaving (+1A, AP); Master Rune of Snorri (hit on 2+) and Cleaving x2 (+1S, AP) or Might x2 (Against T5+, double strenght, D3 wounds).
Kragg+ double striking seems best. Minimal 1hko potential, but it can kill anything given time. And the seed gives us that time

More or less agree though large and tough critters/peeps could continue to whale on her after she's "dead" which the seed won't save her from if she gets pulped, gross as that sounds. So *wiggles hand*.

Huh, yeah, that is the date the wiki gives. Did we actually not kill Karl? Because according to the wiki, he was born the year this quest started.
It's quest canon that it's public knowledge that the Emperor is still childless.

U / Throttling: Sends ropes of darkness a short distance to strangle the target. Lasts until you choose to stop or your concentration is broken.
- Without magical protection or supernatural toughness, the target is helpless from when the spell hits their throat.
Also seems like we've pretty much got a semiindependant autotargeting variant of this as a built-in extra to our Dread Aspect...

Wait a minute.

Maybe the wiki is just wrong, but it says Karl was saved by Wood Elves as a babe in 2470, and the Empress died around 2478.

Either Karl is supposed to be in his pre-teens right about now or I've made a mistake somewhere.

Karl should be between 9 and 11 right now, but in quest canon, he either isn't born or the Emperor is hiding him pretty damn well.

Wait I just realized Toddy is going to be the next Emporer... if we don't accidentally kill him.

Not necessarily. There's not guaranteed succession to the Emperor. It could be any Elector Count. It could be Leitdorf, which would be hilarious.

A note on the sword acquisition: It doesn't have to be custom made. After thousands of years of Dwarven history, there must be a dozen relics or so of badass runic greatswords that were made for and wielded by dwarven heroes for whatever reason, it's not crazy to think some of the older holds might have one or two on display or in the armory. It would probably cost a shitton of favor, but then again we'll have a lot of it, especially if we stick around K8P for a while longer.

I think we have word of QM that Dwarves don't really do swords. The only example we've seen of them was wielded by a cleric, and I suspect such artifacts would belong to that...Temple? Cult?...would belong to his order, and therefore not be available for being given to others.

It's not unheard of, just extremely uncommon. Thing is that Dwarven history is so long that even if one dwarven hero in a thousand used a sword for whatever reason (was originally a priest, comissioned a sword because XYZ reason, etc) there should still be a few tucked away in the older holds.

They don't use swords very much no, there was some discussion on it a few pages ago actually, just search institutional knowledge or Gazul. If we were after a great axe we'd have oodles of options most likely.

True, but 8Peaks has it's main treasure vaults well away from the area we're reclaiming. We could get lucky and find one in the Citadel's armoury, but I'm not sure weapons for heroes are stored there.

Ah, thanks for confirmation.

That would be awesome, but I'm not banking on it. Dwarf favor is redeemable with any hold, as I understand it, so we'd just have to put the call out and eventually we'd get news that Karak X may have the thing we're looking for, and ride there to inspect it. Granted, it would take time, but then again we're not in a hurry.

Also one advantage of a sword made for Mathilde is that when all is said and done its hers and not something used by a dwarven hero in the past and thus is not dwarven property. Thusly she can pass it down to a student or have it safely entombed with her or donated to the Colleges with relatively little fuss.

True, but while we're not in a hurry, and certainly could do that, depending on distance, it could take a while. And while favour does seem to be redeemable with any Dwarves, I suspect different holds might have different "prices" for doing certain things. Zhufbar would be easier to get guns from, Barak Varr would be more likely to transport us across the sea or bring dreadnoughts to a fight, that sort of thing, simply because it's easier to arrange for them. Also, what Bungie said.

True, and a sword made for a Dwarf will also be differently sized etc, while a custom job would be better fitted to Mathilde specifically. Like that pistol that didn't have a handle yet when we were shopping for those.
